Father Kyle will offer pet blessings on the church grounds and I will be at Pet Smart. If you have a fur

child that doesn’t travel well or do well in crowds (say like a horse or a cat) bring a picture for a blessing.

Even if you don’t have pets at home but your children have stuffed lovies – you are invited to bring those

as well! Come and support each of these endeavors as well as stewardship of God’s creatures especially

those in our animal shelters looking for forever homes.

Welcome to RLC Mission and Ministry: On Sunday, October 22 we will offer a time for our newer folks

to gather and learn more about what goes on here at RLC. Even if you’re an “old timer” you are welcome

to join us!

Area-wide Reformation 500th Celebration at 10 a.m., Sunday October 29 at 10 a.m. at Dodd

Auditorium on the campus of Mary Washington College. Combined choirs and musicians from St.

Peter’s, Christ and Resurrection along with clergy from these sponsoring congregations will lead worship

as we praise God and celebrate these past 500 years of reformation and look forward to the next 500.

Trunk-or-Treat: Sunday, October 29 from 4 – 6 p.m. Sponsored by the Preschool; plan your trunk and

bring treats to share with those in the community – reserve your parking space and get ready to have a

good time!

Finally, as I finish this article, we have closed on the 11127 Blue Herron Circle, Spotsylvania VA. Jai

and I have grateful hearts as we officially become Fredericksburg residents. Words cannot express

my gratitude for the patience you all have shown me as we have dealt with the transition over the

past 7½ months. What a great feeling to be fully present! What an even greater feeling to say,

finally, WE’RE HOME!!

Blessings,

Pastor Heidi

We did it! Working together, we raised $3,695.76 and packed 12,744 meals for

Rise Against Hunger. 93 people packed meals, and a Thrivent Gift card

covered the cost of a delicious lunch put together by the Hospitality Team.

Many thanks to all who participated. A beautiful day added to the spirit of this

event. Thanks Be To God!

A Message from Rise Against Hunger

“We are delighted to announce that the meals from your meal packaging

event on 9/10/2017 have been shipped in a container totaling 285,120

meals from our Richmond warehouse. The meals will be received by our in-

country partner Family Legacy Missions - Distribution in Zambia.

Family Legacy Missions distributes Rise Against Hunger meals in 21

schools, where they are served to more than 10,000 students. Family

Legacy Missions involves and supports the community in two ways:

caregivers are recruited to prepare meals for the students, and students

receive take-home rations to share with their caregivers.

FAITH IN ACTION

The Faith In Action Team met on Thursday, September 14th. The first

item discussed was the super-fine success of the annual school supply

collection for the Minnick Schools of Lutheran Family Services and

Chancellor Elementary School. Thank you very much Resurrection

Family!! All supplies have been delivered to the schools and there are now students who will

have a much more successful learning experience because of this vital outreach.

Ellen Bushman and myself were both “off of our feed” this summer as the old country

expression goes. We both forgot about the snacks and playground balls for the Minnick

Schools. Snacks are needed after the students take their long rides to school and the

playground balls are needed to get many Minnick School students engaged in school activities.

We will include these items on the Christmas Angel Tree. Faith In Action is already wrapping

cartons to hold the non-perishable food items. More information will be in the November

Newsletter.

As for now, Faith In Action will focus on the annual Hope House collection of needs. Watch the

Narthex Baobob Tree for the leaves of items needed by the Hope House clients. Colleen Butler

and Joy Bushman will be chairing this project. Even while Joy is recovering from surgery, she

will be helping Colleen as Co-chair.

Please keep helping with the needs of Brisben, Fifth Saturday Meals, and Christ Luthern Pantry.

By the end of the year, Dee Tillman would like to step down as co-chair of the Brisben Homeless

Shelter Meals. Please think and pray about this position. The Holy Spirit is always working at

Resurrection and moves us into these much needed projects.

Fall Blessings,

Gene Ernst

Fall Hope House Collection

It’s that time once again for us to help the residents of

Hope House by providing necessary daily needs. Please

take a leaf or two off the Baobob Tree in the narthex

and purchase the item(s) noted on the leaf. Bring the

item(s) back to church and place them around the tree.

We will be collecting through Sunday, November 1st.

Thank you for your continued support for this ministry.

If you have any questions, please contact Colleen Butler

at #540-847-7799.

Music News

Hello to all my RLC friends and family, September was filled with excitement and enthusiasm in these past few weeks. What an amazing event we had this past weekend with our Oktoberfest as we kicked off our fall season with a fantastic evening of fellowship. There was lots of energy flowing through the fellowship hall that night, especially with a "hymn sing-along" at full volume! After a big weekend of fun with that event (including our silent auction, our mum sale, and much more) we now look towards our October opportunities for more and more worship time together, also to include gathering for our traditional Night of Broadway Music October 15th at 6:00pm, our combined service with other Lutheran churches at University of Mary Washington's Dodd auditorium to celebrate the 500 anniversary, and we begin our Christmas music rehearsals. You will hear more about all of these events during this month. Our choirs are working on selections from Handel's Messiah to share with you over the Advent and Christmas season. I'm very excited about preparing this for our Advent season and invite all of you to come join us if you so desire. We rehearse on Wednesday nights at 6:30 PM. As many of you know, the choir room is being moved to the second floor and will be under renovation over the next month. This will allow us a larger space to rehearse and the room to grow, how exciting!! Bless all of you and many prayers for a safe and joyful Fall season. Invite your friends to come and see all of these amazing ways to spread the love of God in worship and in all of these opportunities. Happy Fall to all of you! Love, Amy
