August is National Immunization Awareness Month. Parents may question whether or not vaccines are safe for their children. The United States currently has the safest most effective vaccine supply in history. Years of testing are required by law vefore a vaccine can be licensed. Once in use vaccines are continually monitored for safety and efficeny. Is it sage to Caccinate my child? In the vast majority of cases vaccines are effective and cause only mild side effects such as allergic reactions. Be sure to tell your heatlh care provider if your child has health problems or known allergies to medications or food. Some people should not get certain vaccines or should wait to get them. For instance children with weak immune systems like cancer patients. Or if a person has had a severe allergic reaction to a vaccine she or he should not receive another dose. Ask your healthcare provider for more info. Wisdom 1:13-14 God did not make death nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living. For He fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome. And there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the nether world on earth.

Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread: the Ladies of Charity Chattanooga and Memorial Hospital invite everyone to their monthly ecumenical prayer service on Tues, Aug 11 from 5:30-6:15 p.m. Join them to pray for and with friends, neighbors and relatives who are suffering hardship due to unemployment job cutbacks foreclosure and or loss of savings. These services take place on the second Tues of each month through Oct 2009 at the Hospital Chapel at Memorials Patient Entrance on Glenwood Av. The entrance is on CARTA’s route 10G. Join Bishop Stika and the Diocesan Catholic

community for Diocesan Day 2009 on Sat. Aug 22 from 9:00 am-3:30 pm at All Saints Church in Knoxville. Cardinal Justin Rigali will be the keynote speaker and Homilist for Mass. The Theme is “You Have But One Teacher”. Our program will feature Bishop Stika. Proceeds from ticket sales will assist the newly opened Catholic Charities Pregnancy Help Center in LaFollette as well as assist Catholic Relief Services with their vital mission in Sudan. An early registration before July 19 is $20. Late fees will be $25. Students are $10. Lunch is included if registration is received prior to Aug 17.

Part time Case Manager Position Available

Interfaith Homeless Network: the Interfaith Homeless Network is accepting resumes for a part time case manager (20 hours per week) to implement a new intake and assessment triage procedure for homeless and near homeless families. This is a one year pilot program. Employees must have a strong interviewing communication and interpersonal skills with a working knowledge of social service providers and community resources in the Chattanooga area. Good computer and data entry skills are required. This is a one year contract position with an hourly rate of $13.50. Inter faith Hospitality Network Building a Dream

Brick-by-Brick Campaign: You can pave the way to open the front doors of the permanent home for IHN. We are only steps away from the opening of our new family day center. Our Lady of Perpetual Help will have a paver named in our honor and surrounding this paver IHN would like to give individual members of our church family the opportunity to be recognized for their countless hours of service to the families who serve. Each pave will cost $100 and can be given in honor or memory of a loved one. In addition the Maclellan Foundation will match every paver given to the campaign.
