Claydoughs is located on E. Brainerd Rd. OLPH Football- kicked off the year w2ith a victory over Normal Park 26-14. The game was played at ND under the lights Fri, Aug 14. It was a team effort with Will “Boney” Mahoney leading the way on offense with 215 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Medardo Espinoza led the defense. The Rams next game is in Dalton against Christian Heritage on Thurs, Aug 27. Go Rams.

Lady Rams Volleyball: the Lady Rams had a great Jamboree this weekend at Boyd Buchanan. The Lady Rams played 8 games and only lost two! Jessica More and Emily Wexler performed well throughout the day. Madeline Wurm maintained powerful serves capturing key points for the team. This was a great start to our season. Go Lady Rams! OLPH School Carnival: the Home & School is bringing back the carnival. This will be held in conjunction with the OLPH “Outback Bowl” and the 1st gathering of all OLPH Alumni. The date is Sept 26. Bishop Stika will join us for the day so mark your calendars now to attend. OLPH Band: It’s not too late to enroll in band class. Band class meets on Monday & Wednesdays during school and does not interfere with after school activities or sports. Your student can learn to play flute, clarinet alto saxophone trumpet French horm trombone baritone tuba or bells. Music teaches discipline and teamwork, and stueies have shown that learning music increases overall brian power. Most band students receive scholarship assistance when they go to college. The Knights of Columbus Holy Family Council will hold their 19

th Annual John Knight/Don Kohl Golf

Tournament to benefit the Annual Notre Dame High School Scholarship Award Program and other charitable causes. Join us Sept 12 at the Brainerd Golf Club. Fee is $80/player which includes prizes and mulligan’s limited to the first 144 golfers. This is a 4 person select shop tournament. Play begins at 8:00 a.m. top prize is $10,000. When disease germs enter you body they start to reproduce. Your immune system recognizes these germs as foreign invaders and responds by making proteins called “antibodies”. These antibodies first job is to help destroy the germs that are making you sick. They can’t act fast enough to prevent you from becoming sick but by eliminating the attacking germs antibodies help you to get well. The “antibodies” second job is to protect you from future infections. They remain in your blood stream and if the same germs ever try to infect you gain even after many years they will come to your defense. Only now that they are experienced at fighting these particular germs they can destroy them before they have a chance to make you sick. This is immunity. This is why most people get diseases like measles or chicken pox only once even though they may be exposed many times. Vaccines help you develop immunity without getting sick first. Vaccines containing weakened or killed germs are introduced into your body usually by injection. Your immune system makes antibodies and they stay in your body giving you immunity. The purpose of immunizations is to prevent disease. Today children in the US routinely get vaccines that protect them from 14 diseases. All of these diseases have at one time or another been a serious threat to children in this country. Most of them are now at their lowest levels in history.

When the disciples realized that Jesus expected them to be like him many found that too hard to accept. They abandoned Jesus. Jesus turned to his closest friends and asked them if they too wanted to leave. Peter answered for the apostles and for us. “Master to shall we go?” When we realize that we are disciples of Jesus as a result of our Baptism and that we are called to give all of ourselves to God as Jesus did we can go to Jesus to be our model and our strength. Several years ago people of all ages were wearing bracelets pendants hats and shirts with the letters “WWJD” “What Would Jesus Do”. That is a very important question to ask before we do anything. It is also important for us to constantly grow in our knowledge and understanding Revelation in Scripture and Tradition and the teaching of the Church. That is how we know “What Would Jesus Do?”

The twentieth century often tried to do without that cornerstone and attempted to build the city of man without reference to Him. It ended by actually building that city against man! Christians know that it is not possible to reject or ignore God without demeaning man. Allow me dear young people to consign this hope of mine to you- you must be those builders! You are the men and women of tomorrow. The future is in your hearts and in your hands.
