OLPH School Carnival: the 2009 OLPH “Outback Bowl” and Fall Carnival will be Sat, Sept 26. this si a parish wide event and will include football games lunch form Outback Steakhouse carnival games and fun. All ending with a parish wide BBQ dinner after the 5:30 Mass. All are invited and encouraged to attend this event which will raise money to support OLPH Football, school wide repairs field trip funds as well as many other student and teacher needs. Auction & Raffle Items Needed: the Home & School Association will be holding a silent auction and raffle during the school Carnival on Sat, Sept 26th. OLPH Band: It’s not too late to enroll in band class. Band class meets on Mon & Wed during school. Your child can learn to play many instruments. Music teaches disciplineand teamwork. On Sat, Aug. 29th the 11/12 year old team defeated McCallie in the "City Jamboree" 8-0. Chris "T-3" Turner scored a TD, while Lucas Mullin added an interception for the defense. Other stand-outs included Addison Hutton and Tyler Enos. The 9/10 year old team defeated Normal Park 9-0. The Rams were lead by a dominating defense (led by Adams Robinson, Danny Hodges, Sam Stovall and Curtis Dearing) which scored a safety, while Cruz Bautista scored a 21 yard touchdown for the offense.

The next “Picture of Love” engaged couples retreat is Saturday, October 17th at St. Jude Catholic Church. This marriage preparation one day retreat is a supplement to the couple’s marriage formation with their parish priest. The program is designed to help the couple gain a better understanding of the joys and challenges of living the sacrament of Matrimony in their day to day lives. Cost is $135/couple. (The retreat certificate is good for a $60 discount on your marriage license.) the retreat will start at 8:00 a.m. with a light breakfast and end with dinner at 6:00 p.m. Mass will be included in your day and you must attend the entire day to receive your certificate. Couple’s Date Night: On Sun, Oct 4TH the Diocesan Office of Marriage Preparation and Enrichment and the St. Jude Family Life Office will sponsor a “GREAT DATE NIGHT” of Dinner and Dancing. Chattanoogan’s for Life will be holding its sixth Annual Prayer Chain for Life to encourage people of faith to join together to pray for the sanctity of ALL Life from the moment of natural conception to the point of natural death. “He makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak. He

ordered them not to tell anyone.” Jesus observed the needs and hurts of the people of his day and he responded with help[ and healing. He cured people of their afflictions and obse3ssions. He did not seek notoriety or accolades. In fact he tried to prevent and avoid publicity for his generous acts. A simple “Thank You” is all he expected but often he did not receive any sign of gratitude. God has graciously and freely given each of us a vast array of gifts. When we share God’s gifts to us with others do we expect acknowledgement and praise? Do we want our left hand to know what our right had has done? Do we expect and desire applause and rewards? The truly generous person gives until it helps not until it hurts and does not seek recognition or reward except the knowledge that they have done the right thing. The true measure of our generosity is the good that we do for others that no one knows about except God.
