Barrie Public Library BoardThe Board is governed under the terms of the Public Libraries Act and is responsible for selecting and appointing a professionally qualified Chief Librarian and determining the library objectives and policies. The Board is also responsible for the library’s annual budget based on recommendations of the Chief Librarian, producing reports to City Council as required plus maintaining a working relationship with government officials, local agencies and other institutions. The City of Barrie is seeking to appoint one (1) citizen for a term to expire November 30, 2018.

City Asking for Feedback on Draft Heritage StrategyHeritage Barrie and the City are asking for feedback from the community on the draft Heritage Strategy. The feedback will help in the development of the strategy’s implementation plan.

The community can provide feedback online, by clicking ‘Heritage Strategy’ at barrie.ca/heritage or at one of the following drop in sessions:

October 24 • 6:30-8:30 p.m.City Hall, 70 Collier Street October 25 • 2-4 p.m. Parkview Centre, 189 Blake Street

October 26 • 4:30-6:30 p.m. Unity Christian High, 25 Burton Avenue

The survey will be open until November 5, 2017. Feedback gathered will help in the development of the Heritage Strategy implementation plan. New action items will be incorporated into the strategy where possible.

Heritage Barrie is an advisory committee appointed by Council. The committee works with the community to build awareness of local heritage matters, provide heritage information, and encourage preservation of heritage buildings and landscapes.

November 15, 2017. Sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses or organizations interested in participating in this year’s gala.

Do You Want to Perform at Barrie’s Downtown Countdown?The search is on for a local band or musician to perform at Barrie’s 20th annual Downtown Countdown. The selected act will have the opportunity to play a 30-minute set at one of the largest New Year's Eve celebrations in Central Ontario. Bands from Barrie and area that are suitable for this family event are invited to apply.

Submissions will be accepted until November 1, 2017. Please include contact information, a band bio, and a few examples of your best audio/video for the selection committee to review. Submissions can include a press kit, CD(s), digital audio and video files, or a direct link to a website, YouTube, SoundCloud, Dropbox, etc.

Certain activities will only run while supplies last. Parents are encouraged to use their discretion when deciding whether or not to enter the Ghost Bus with their children.

The bus will remain stationary all night so participants may drop in anytime during the event. While costumes are not necessary they are encouraged!
