e Dear Parishioners: I hope everyone had a pleasant Thanksgiving celebration. In the midst of all our problems, it is important that we remember all the blessings we have as well. This is the time of the year that often flies by; Thanksgiving is already done and now we prepare for the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ, at Christmas. Advent begins next weekend! This weekend, however, we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. Pope Pius XI instituted The Feast of Christ the King in 1925 for the universal church in his encyclical Quas Primas. He connected the increasing denial of Christ the King to the rise of secularism. At the time of Quas Primas, many Christians (including Catholics) began to doubt Christ’s authority and existence, as well as the Church’s power to continue Christ’s authority. Pius XI, and the rest of the Christian world, witnessed the rise of non-Christian dictatorships in Europe, and saw Catholics being taken in by these earthly leaders. These dictators often attempted to assert authority over the Church. Just as the Feast of Corpus Christi was instituted when devotion to the Eucharist was at a low point, the Feast of Christ the King was instituted during a time when respect for Christ and the Church was waning, when the feast was needed most. Pope Pius hoped the institution of the feast would have various effects. They were: 1) That nations would see that the Church has the right to freedom, and immunity from the state. (Quas Primas, 32). 2) That leaders and nations would see that they are bound to give respect to Christ (Quas Primas, 31). 3) That the faithful would gain strength and courage from the celebration of the feast, as we are re-minded that Christ must reign in our hearts, minds, wills and bodies. Today, for some, the only authority is the individual self. Also, many balk at the idea of kings and queens, believing them to be antiquated. However, these individuals miss the point: Christ’s kingship is one of Humility and Service. Let’s you and I be kings, like Christ the King, and live a life of humility and service! In Christ, Fr. Brian As you may know, many couples experience difficulties in having children. I would like to recom-mend the Gianna Center. The Gianna Center (located at 661 Deer Park Avenue, Babylon, NY 11702) offers highly specialized restorative reproductive medicine in accordance with Catholic teaching, under the medical direction of Paul Carpentier, MD, CFCMC. Also, assistance is available for anyone with unexpected or crisis pregnancy through a one-call outreach program connecting to community resources. You may wish to also visit the Gianna Center website: https://www.chsli.org/gianna-long-island. The Gianna Center also helps those in a crisis pregnancy. The confidential, dedicated telephone number for this program is 1 (855) 301-4CHS (4247), supported by the availability of multilingual interpretive services. Anyone of any faith may call or refer to this support line, including representa-tives of parishes, colleges and crisis pregnancy centers, to facilitate safe, nonjudgmental companioning for women and couples in a crisis pregnancy. To speak to someone about pregnancy options immedi-ately in non-work hours (between 7:00pm and 7:30am Monday to Friday or on the weekend), please call 1 (800) 712-HELP (4357).

As members of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, we are faced with a challenge that we can only overcome together. As you know from the recent mailing, there are urgent maintenance needs at our convent. It is important that each and every member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Parish family participates in this worthy project. It is only by our generosity in mak-ing a sacrificial gift that we will be able to accomplish our objectives. We have established a goal of $442,000 in order to accomplish our objectives. While this seems like a large amount, participation by all members of the parish family will make this goal not only attainable, but one that we can surpass. If every family pledges $400, after a $40 down payment, your sacrifice would be $1 a day for one year. We can all do that. If you are able to pledge a higher amount, please do so. We’re asking for equal sacrifice, not equal giving.

As you make your gift, please remember…

• Pledges and one time donations are welcomed and greatly appre-ciated.

• Payment reminders will be mailed to you in accordance with your payment plan.

• All contributions are deductible for tax purposes.

• Any questions? Call Fr. Brian at 631-661-3224

Casa Project Update Thanks to the generous donations to the Casa House in our Narthex, this year we will be able to donate ten (10) ecostoves. Many of the communities we visit in El Salvador cook their meals and warm their homes without proper ventilation. These ecostoves will provide the proper ventilation, and help prevent respiratory ailments. We couldn't do this without support. Our sincere thanks for your generosity.

Next weekend (12/1-12/2) we are asking you to give us your loose change for our Casa Project. Place your donations in the wooden house located in the Narthex of the Church. Again, thank you for your support.

Thank You to Our Students and Teachers... On November 3rd, the 7th Grade Room 13 Religious Education students, along with Caroline, Jessica and Victoria from the 8th Grade Class, provided hospitality for those who attended the Mass of Remembrance. Under the guidance of their teachers and Sister Nancy, they did an outstanding job of greeting and serving our guests. Thank you for a job well done!

Sharing the Gospel Today is Christ the King Sunday. Instead of using His power selfishly to get whatever He wanted, Jesus used his power to free people from sickness, from death, and from evil. Jesus came to tell us the truth about God. Now we need to listen to the voice of Jesus and follow His example.

Something to Draw Draw a picture of Jesus wearing a crown of thorns.

Prayer

Dear God, Thank you for sending Jesus to be our loving king. Amen

Mission for the Week

We "listen to Jesus" when we follow His example. This week, let others go first when you play a game.
