Principal’s Report
Parent survey
The annual parent survey has been distributed to around 30% of families for parents/carers to provide feedback on a range of aspects of our school. If you receive a letter providing the link and password, please take the time (around 10 minutes) to complete the survey online. It is important that we get the views of parents so that we can plan effectively for the future as well as receive your feedback on how well we are doing at present. The parent survey is part of a suite of surveys conducted throughout the year by the De-partment of Education. We have just received the results of the student survey, the teachers and educa-tion support staff are currently completing the staff survey and there will be an additional school survey held in August. All of the information gathered through these surveys is collated and used in our review and renew programs. It is important to note that we do not receive any individual feedback, we just receive collated data from the surveys.
School Council Review
Each year School Council holds a review meeting in July. At this meeting, members review the structures and processes of Council as well as the achievements and gaps across school programs. This is a subjective review in that it is opinion based rather than data-driven. Data from the various surveys mentioned above as well as student achievement will be analysed later in the year to add to the overall picture of school achievement. Last week’s review meeting provided the opportunity for members of council to float ideas for improvement as part of the review. Some ideas included exchange visit for a week for Year 9s with a metropolitan school, developing closer links with University teacher training faculties to assist with recruit-ment, upgrading the VCAL room and improved strategies for the recruitment of teachers.
Study Skills and Exam Preparation
The Year 10, 11 and 12 students are all heading towards exams this semester. In order to assist their study skills and preparation for exams, Elevate will be here on Friday 2nd August. The topic is “Finishing Line” which refers to preparation for final exams. This is a free event for students and is part of our initiative to raise expectations and enhance student learning outcomes.
Year 9 First Aid Training
One of the goals of the Advance Program is to enable Year 9 students to gain specific qualifications in agreed areas. The Year 9 students are currently participating in a three-day first aid course which will pro-vide them with the knowledge and skills around first aid, as well as a recognised certificate of competence. Thanks go to Tash Anderson for running this in-depth program for our Advance students.
Winter Sport
It has been a challenge to find the ideal time-spot to hold this year’s winter sport. We have to work around camps, the China trip, Speed Field Days, Try VET, Elevate and VCAL commitments to find an afternoon when all students are here. We have finally settled on Monday as the day for the Year 6-12 students to have their winter sports day. It is expected that all students in Years 6 to 12 participate in this sports event.
School Crossing
There has been a marked improvement in parking and pick-up near the school crossing this week. Please continue to obey the no standing signs as well as respect the rights and responsibilities of others. We want the area to be completely safe for all students as well as parents and staff.
Coming Up
We have a very busy two weeks in front of us. Winter sport followed by VCAL students doing preparatory
work at the Speed Field days, Try VET, leadership coaching for student leaders, Elevate, Advance tree
planting and assisting with athletics training at St Josephs, Primary Cluster day, Melbourne camp and
SWPBS trip to Horsham to name a few.

Monday 23rd of April at Lake Lascelles
The Year 4-6 students have returned after the holidays ready to begin their learning. The Year 3 and 4 students are now attending Literacy and Numeracy lessons with Ms Bull, while the Year 6 students have begun their transition to secondary school by attending Wednes-day afternoon sport.
Last week the Year 4-6 students found out that it was the 50th anniversary of the moon land-
ing. To recognise this achievement students watched the footage of the landing and then constructed their own lunar landing module.
Also Year 6 students will be joining the senior students on Monday 29 July to participate in Winter Sports. Don’t forget to bring your sports gear.
