Dear Family of St. Zachary Church & School, Parish Support Collection- As previously written in a financial report in December, we are temporarily changing our monthly Debt Retirement second collection to a second collection for parish support. Several people have asked why we’ve made this change. In consultation with Tony Jurich, the Business Manager, the Finance Council, and the Archdiocese, it was determined that it is more important that we turn our energies to staying current with our obligations for the rest of this fiscal year than to make a payment toward one of our loans from the Archdiocese. Our interest rates have been lowered to 1%, and the Archdiocese will have a much more favorable view of our finances if we are current on our obligations. This extra collec-tion has helped us to meet all of our obligations, both to the Archdiocese and to third party vendors. Additionally, we have identified a few projects throughout the parish that we’d like to tackle. Namely, many of you have complained about the poor quality of our sound system in church. We plan to use this collection to raise money to replace it. We also plan to use money collected through this collection to fund safety and security upgrades throughout our campus, including electronic key fob entry and eventually cameras. Please know that we are committed to reducing our
debt, but we are equally committed to meeting our current obligations. We are working hard to craft a
balanced budget for the next fiscal year, both by cutting unnecessary expenses as well as increasing
income sources. We are constantly working with our Finance Council and representatives from the Archdiocese on best practices and strategies to
reduce our debt. Thank you for your continued support of St. Zachary Parish!

Bingo is back at St. Zachary! We are pleased to announce that the first evening was successful thanks to the people who came out to play and our workers. We are looking to put teams to-
gether to work Bingo. Bingo will be held monthly on Fridays at St. Zachary; each team would work 3 or 4 times a year. If you would be interested in helping with Bingo, call Dolores at 847-956-7020, or e-mail [email protected]. Our next Bingo night will be on Friday, March 29. Doors open at 5:00 PM and the first game starts at 6:00 PM. Save the date and plan to come.
More on the Cuomo Affaire – Following are concluding excerpts from Bishop Barron’s reflection on New York’s new abortion license permitting the killing of an unborn child up until
the moment of delivery. He recalls the false narrative that a former NY governor Mario Cuomo, father of current governor Andrew Cuomo, professed in 1984: “[He] presented himself, convincingly, as a faithful Catholic, thoroughly convinced in conscience that abortion is morally outrageous. But he also made a fateful distinction that has been exploited by liberal Catholic politicians for the past thirty-five years. He explained that though he was personally opposed to abortion, he was not willing to pursue legal action to abolish it or even to limit it, since he was the representative of all the people, and not just of those who shared his Catholic convictions.” The distinction, the Bishop says, lacked merit then and still does today: “[T]his distinction is an illegitimate one, which is evident the moment we draw an analogy to other public matters of great moral import: ‘I’m personally opposed to slavery, but I’ll take no action to outlaw it or limit its spread’; ‘I personally find Jim Crow laws repugnant, but I will pursue no legal strategy to undo them’; etc.” Unlike his father, continues the Bishop, An-drew doesn’t even claim to have a conflicted conscience: “[I]n a single generation, we have moved from reluctant tolera-tion to unbridled celebration, from struggling Mario to exult-ant Andrew. And there is a simple reason for this. A privat-ized religion, one that never incarnates itself in gesture, behav-ior, and moral commitment, rapidly evanesces.” Quoting Robert Bolt’s magnificent play regarding St. Thomas More, A Man for All Seasons, the Bishop goes on to cite the exchanges between the saintly More and Cardinal Wolsey, a hard-bitten, largely amoral politico. Wolsey laments, “You’re a constant regret to me, Thomas. If you could just see facts flat on, without that horrible moral squint, with just a little common sense, you could have been a statesman.” To which More responds, “Well…I believe when statesmen forsake their own private conscience for the sake of their public duties…they lead their country by a short route to chaos.” Hence, Bishop Barron’s conclusion: Andrew Cuomo’s joyful celebration of a law per-mitting the murder of children will lead to chaos today. Think about it: barely a week after this Cuomo affaire, a Virginia state legislator would introduce a bill making it legal to rip and destroy a child from its mother’s womb while being deliv-ered and Governor Ralph Northam appeared to opine that the bill would also allow doctors to take the life of a child born alive after a failed abortion if that was the mother’s wish. That’s legalized infanticide, more of calling evil good (Is. 5:20).
From March 1-17, Chili's will be sponsoring a Dine and Share benefitting St. Zachary School at the Arlington Heights, Skokie & Rosemont Locations. Please show the flyer when you order. A portion of your purchase will be donated back to St. Zachary! Thanks for your continued support.
