Living Stewardship Double Standards The philosopher Bertrand Russell, who prided himself on his atheism, once spoke of two kinds of morality that seem to exist in contemporary life—one that we preach but fail to practice, and another that we do practice but hardly ever preach. Jesus, by contrast, never allowed such double thinking. In today’s Gospel, the crowd publicly humiliates the woman caught in adultery and is ready to stone her to death. Stoning was prescribed in many ancient cultures, mostly for sexual and religious sins. Jesus takes another track entirely. He does not question the woman’s guilt, but rather exposes the hidden guilt in the hearts of the people who were so ready to harm her. Not only were they ashamed of themselves, they could no longer look down on the woman as “the guilty one” from their position of supposed superiority. We may never be tempted to do actual violence to another person, but the question we have to ask is whom do we sit in judgment on? A family member who is an alcoholic? A woman who has had an abortion? An immigrant who may be here illegally? Or worse yet, do we condemn in our hearts whole groups of people: another race, another religion, another political party, a different income bracket? Are we sure that everyone who has committed a crime deserves punishment? Most of us can keep our own sins hidden away, but they follow us like a dark shadow, doing all kinds of damage to us, to our relationships, and to our dealings with the world around us. There are two things that we can do: unload all our guilt and sense of disapproval on God in confession, and then make a serious effort to understand how much more we are like other people than different from them. That will lighten us up. Copyright © 2009, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Youth Ministry Mini-Mission Looking for an opportunity to be of service? Want to have fun? Curious about what a Mission Trip is about? Saint Anne Parish Youth Ministry as part of Kenosha Catholic Youth Ministry is offering a Mini-Mission for youth in Grades 6 to 12 during Easter break – April 2nd to 4th. The Mini-Mission will offer participants an opportunity to serve together in several different sites and work situations (meal program, children’s center, community outreach) while living in community. We will be staying at Saint Elizabeth Parish where we will learn and have fun and then go out into the community for service. This is a great opportunity to gain service experience, to have fun with other youth, and to model Christ to the community. To sign up or for additional information, contact Ed Duncklee at 694-0026 or [email protected]. Youth Mission Trip Update We are still in the planning stages for our two youth Mission Trips happening next summer. The Junior High trip (June 16-21) is full. St. Anne’s Date Night Series for Married Couples Set for 2013 St. Anne has announced its 2013 Date Night Series. Back by popular demand, this series provides a fun night out for married couples – rich in information, perspective and en-richment in a non-threatening manner. Each event begins with Mass at 6:00 p.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, with a devotional renewal of wedding vows, followed by cocktails, dinner and speaker presentation at Bristol Oaks Country Club. “With the attack on marriage and family in our culture, we continue to place a high priority on the resources and opportunities for married couples,” says Fr. Bob Weighner, pastor, St. Anne Catholic Church. “I’m personally excited about our line-up this year, as they are all top-notch profes-sionals in their respective fields, with a deep understanding and love for Catholic teachings.” The following is a listing of upcoming events: Friday, April 26: Kevin Brock, former Intelligence Director,

FBI, will speak on "Raising Kids in an Aggressive World." In light of recent events in school environments, and the pervasive culture of the Internet, video games and access to on-line activities, Kevin will speak about these realities and how best parents can be aware of the related issues and what protective measures they can take to minimize the dangers to their children. Friday, June 28: Art Bennett, President

and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Arlington, Virginia and author of many books will speak on "Embracing the Temperament God Gave Your Spouse." He will speak on the importance of knowledge of temperaments – the fundamental person-ality traits, hard-wired into us at birth, that affect the way we respond to the world around us – so critical, and so fruitful, as in a Christian marriage. For it's only through mutual understanding of our own patterns of reaction, and those of our spouse, that we can motivate, nurture, respect, and above all, love each other with the selfless patience to which Christ calls us in the sacrament. Friday, October 18: Kelly Wahlquist, Asst. Director of Parish

Evangelization, Association of Marian Helpers, Marians of the Immaculate Conception will speak on: "Living the Life You Never Dreamed Of". With scripture as a foundation and pointing to individuals in scripture, her talk will focus on a heart-felt and dynamic look at what courage truly is in a marriage, how we can obtain it, and to whom we can look as true ex-amples of how to live married life with

courage, renewed conviction, confidence and hope. How to register: Cost for each event is $50 per couple. Individuals can register at the Parish Office or after Masses. Deadline for registration is the Monday prior to the event.
