Mission Statement:

St. Landry Catholic Church is a community of the faithful that serves God and our neighbors by coming to know and love more deeply Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. This is accomplished through the study of Sacred Scripture and by practicing the traditions handed down to us, especially the seven sacraments. By the help of Jesus' Grace, we seek to imitate Him in His faith, hope and charity so that we can receive His gift of salvation in eternal life.

Volume 67, No. 12 – Passion (Palm) Sunday – March 25, 2018 PASTOR’S CORNER Today we celebrate Passion Sunday, also known as Palm Sunday. It marks the beginning of "Holy Week," our remembrance of the events that give rise to our salvation: Jesus' Passion, Death and Resurrection. Last

week, we covered our statues and other holy images in violet representing sorrow and repentance, a theme

that continues this week. However, this week the covers are red to signify our salvation won by our Savior Jesus Christ by the shedding of His Most Precious Blood. This week there are several special events here in the church as well as our Easter Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday and the Easter Vigil) liturgies Please check the insert in this bulletin for our Holy Week schedule. A special effort should be made by each of us to attend the major liturgies of the Easter Triduum, namely Holy Thursday Mass celebrating the Last Supper and the Institution of the Eucharist, Good Friday Services commemorating our Lord's Passion, and the Easter Vigil. This year is an especially opportune time for families with younger children to attend the Easter Triduum liturgies because there are not receiving any new members at these liturgies, so they will be shorter than usual. It would be a good time to expose our younger members to the beauty of the liturgies in a more child friendly setting. The Holy Week Liturgies are moving and beautiful, and a fitting way to celebrate these most important events of our salvation. Easter weekend often begins early in the secular world, with our children having off from school and many places of employment closing Good Friday and Easter Monday for the holiday. This extra time gives us an opportunity to attend the Triduum Liturgies. It is understandable that some family celebrations of the holiday weekend begin early, especially when people we love and do not get to see often come from out of town. However, we cannot understand or fully appreciate Easter if we don't both understand and appreciate Jesus' acts of love on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. A thought for reflection this week: If we can make time for other social events during these holidays, then should we not also be able to make time to attend the Triduum Services, maybe inviting our out of town visitors to attend with us? If we are not able or are not willing to make the time, then we should also honestly examine our priorities. We know what Jesus' priority was during this time. What is ours? Note on Holy Week Confessions Monday evening we will have our usual Citywide Penance Service beginning at 6pm here at St. Landry. Eight priests will be available for Confessions. In addition, please note that we have expanded Confession times prior to daily mass on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday is the last chance for scheduled Confessions. If you plan to make your Lenten Confession this week, please try to do so during one of the scheduled times, as Confession by appointment, due to the crowded Holy Week calendar, may not be available until after Easter. Anniversary of First Mass in our Beautiful Church This week we also celebrate on Monday, April 2, the 109th anniversary of the first Mass celebrated in our current church building. We should take time to give thanks to God for our beautiful church and for the people who in their gifts of time, talent and treasure left such a wonderful spiritual legacy from which we benefit so greatly! Many Thanks for All Who Helped Make the Regional Centennial Mass a Great Success!! We thank Bishop Deshotel for being the main celebrant and homilist at the regional Centennial Mass Friday of last week, and appreciate Bishop Jarrell, a native son of St. Landry, for his attendance at the Mass. Also, we express great gratitude to all individuals and groups who helped in the liturgy and the reception, which was coordinated by Deacon Joubert and Yvonne Normand, respectively. A special thanks to the members of our Community Choir, who assisted our St. Landry Church Choir in providing the beautiful music for the Mass. Let us always give thanks to God for those events and people who have helped to make it possible for our community to exist and thrive today!

READINGS FOR FAITH SHARING Passion (Palm) Sunday Isaiah 50:4-7 My face I did not

shield from buffets and spitting, knowing that I shall not be put to shame.

Psalm 22 “My God, My God, why have you abandoned me?”

Philipians 2:6-11 Jesus emptied himself, accepting death on a cross.

Mark 14:1 – 15:47 The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In the Gospel read before the procession into the church, the crowd exalted the “Messiah.” In the Passion, the crowd is quite opposite. Our palms still lying in the pew next to us, the now hostile crowd shouts “Crucify Him!” to Pilate, painting Jesus as a fraud and a danger to peace. Let us imagine the confidence Jesus had in the Father, enabling him to be obedient to the point of death.

MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER: Ex 12:1-8,

11-14; Ps 116; 1 Cor 11:23-26; Jn 13:1-15 READINGS VARY BY MASS FOR THE EASTER FEAST… please consult the missal.

PRAYER FOR THE UNBORN Virgin of Guadalupe, Patroness of unborn children,

we implore your intercession for every child at risk of abortion. Help expectant parents to welcome

from God the priceless gift of their child’s life.

Console parents who have lost that gift through abortion, and lead them to forgiveness and healing through the Divine Mercy of your Son.

Teach us to cherish and to care for family and friends until God calls them home. Help us never to see others as burdens.

Guide our public officials to defend each and every human life through just laws. Inspire us all to bring our faith into public life, to speak for those who have no voice.

We ask this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, who is Love and Mercy itself. Amen.

Additions were made to the Student Center and to the Chapel in 1965, adding seating to the rear of the sanctuary. Today, Our Lady of Wisdom continues to serve the spiritual needs of the 11,000 Catholics on the campus of UL.
