The Gymnastics Training Center of Rochester, Inc. provides expert instruction for recreational and competitive gymnastics, as well as dance, for preschool thru adult students. Our unique 22,000 square foot fully matted facility is also home to Fit By Five Pre-School, an academic preschool for the active 3 to 5 year old child. Special Needs gymnastics and dance programs are offered, along with a Special Olympic Gymnastics Team.

Owner, Sarah Jane Clifford, a graduate of Ithaca College, has been a gymnastics instructor since 1972, a judge since 1976, and is nationally certified by the National Association of Women’s Gymnastics Judges. She has been sharing her passion and knowledge of gymnastics for over 27 years in the Rochester area.

The gym uses the most technologically advanced equipment available, including: Olympic apparatus, a 60’ in-ground tumble track into a deep foam pit, two sunken trampolines into a pit and 75’ of “resi pits”. All equipment meets the USA Gymnastics safety specifications and is continuously maintained and checked.

Both recreational classes and competitive teams train to progress in the USA Gymnastics Level 1-10 Junior Olympic Program and have excelled as NY State Champions, and at Regional and National Championships.

GTC specializes in making gymnastics and dance available for all students, regardless of age or physical abilities. Sarah Jane Clifford has partnered with Camp Open Arms, Burn Camp, Special Olympics and ABVI. Recently, her passion has led her to create “Special” Fit By Five and specialty programs for students with a variety of special needs, including diagnosis on the spectrum.

Our philosophy is “Safety First, Last, and Always.” We are dedicated to educating all students, regardless of abilities, in a safe, fun atmosphere. Our goal is that each student will learn at his or her own pace and that our students will strive for “personal best,” not only in the gymnastics arena, but in all that life has to offer. We feel strongly that true success is not measured simply in victories but in the confident knowledge that you’ve done your best and that all children have the opportunity to experience the joy that gymnastics can bring to all bodies and minds.

Schutt’s Apple Mill A part of the local community, the Schutt Family opened the Schutt’s Apple

Mill in 1918. The store has grown from a small cider room to a full country

store that is open year-round. During the 1990s, the Schutt Family doubled

the size of the store, allowing them to make their famous homemade fried

cakes as well as expand on their unique gift items. The most recent addition

is a tasting room for hard cider. The Schutt family is always looking, thinking

of new ideas for the future.

In addition to delicious apples and sweet cider, Schutt’s Apple Mill carries

local goods such as raw honey, cheeses, jams and

The Penfield Trails Committee invites Penfield and area residents to participate in a series of guided hikes. All events are held rain or shine. For more information and to pre-register, call Penfield Recreation at 340-8655 option 6. *Monthly hikes and trail map information are on the Recreation website - www.penfieldrec.org - click on “Penfield Trails.” All groups must pre-register.

Ages: Adults & Children 8 years & up (Children under 16 should be accompanied by an adult.) No pets please.

Irondequoit Creek Wetlands East Trail: Trail begins at the east end of Old Browncroft Blvd.

Rifle Range Trail: Ellison Park, south side of Empire Blvd., just east of Irondequoit Creek.

Schaufelberger Park/Historic Sidewalk Trail: Park at public parking lot behind the Penfield Fire Station on Five Mile Line Rd. Cross the street to visit Schaufelberger Park...the former site of a service station and auto dealer.

Sherwood Fields Park Trail: 2514 Penfield Road, next to East Penfield Fire Hall. Parking lot entrance is off fire hall driveway. Trail begins at parking lot.

Thousand Acre Swamp: Jackson Rd. between Atlantic Ave. and Plank Rd. Entrance is next to Penfield Ambulance.

Tot Trail: Veterans’ Memorial Park behind the Penfield Town Hall. The trail is located west of the tennis courts near the Dolomite Lodge.

Veterans’ Memorial Park Nature & Fitness Trails: Geographic center of town, access from Atlantic Ave. and Jackson Rd. Parking available.

Wild Iris Path: West end of Coachman Dr. and Brougham Dr.

ROTHFUSS PARK 1648 Five Mile Line Rd. 70-acre multi-use park built on former farmland with 4 full-sized rectangular athletic fields, paved and stone walking paths with NEW QR F.I.T. Trail, playground, picnic pavilions and seasonal public restrooms.

SCHAUFELBERGER PARK This decorative park sits in the heart of Penfield’s Historic Four Corners.

SHERWOOD FIELDS PARK 2514 Penfield Rd. (located east of fire hall) 82-acre passive park, primary walking trails through field areas, work on secondary trails through wetland and wooded wildlife habitat areas ongoing. No restrooms.

VETERANS’ MEMORIAL PARK 3100 Atlantic Ave. Open pavilion and enclosed heated Dolomite Lodge, outdoor amphitheater, lighted tennis and basketball courts (5/1- 10/30), baseball, softball, multi-use fields, Veterans’ Memorial, beautiful Don Mack Rock Garden, walkways, playground area, nature trails, Tot Trail, arboretum, public restrooms and picnic facilities.

The business was established in 1936 by Sam Profetta. He and his wife operated a department

store on Clifford Ave. and Goodman St. in Rochester. When the business moved to Waring

Road Plaza, it became a full service jewelry store.

In 1975 Profetta Jewelers moved to its current location in Penfield. Owner Daniel Profetta has
