SHAKESPEAR’S OTHELLO
Mr. Granieri’s English class concluded their study of Shakespeare's Othello with a re-enactment of the last act on the PHS stage. Students honed their comprehension skills and decoding abilities with a thorough class study of vocabulary and syntax of Shakespeare's writing. Mr. Granieri’s direction increased students’ understanding of the stage and helped usher the class into their debrief of the plot, characters, and underlying themes. More im-portantly they gained a deeper appreciation of Othello as a performance piece.

NATIONAL
HONOR
SOCIETY
INDUCTION
On Thursday January 26, 2017 the Pennsauken chapter of the National Honor Society proudly inducted its newest members in a beautiful ceremony that included parents, administrators, teachers and friends. The evening was filled with speeches given by the Na-tional Honor Society’s officers along with their advisers and our prin-cipal, Mr. Gregory Munford. After each candidate lit a candle to signi-fy their induction, everyone was invited to attend a small reception in the cafeteria hosted by Mr. Keith Meloni and the PHS food service staff. The pastries and cakes were a delicious way to end an incredibly proud night for everyone involved in celebration of our wonderful stu-dents here at Pennsauken High School. In fact, Pennsauken continues to honor the long standing tra-dition of the National Honor Society which dates back to 1921. It is the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, the NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. The ability of the inductees to excel in so many impressive areas is what sets them apart, and their claim to membership in this most prestigious organi-zation. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through ac-tive involvement in school activities and community service. The Na-tional Honor Society recognizes not only scholastic achievement, but also a student’s exemplary service to their school and community. It also marks a commitment to persist in searching for ways to serve oth-ers while striving for excellence in leadership and in life. In 2017, we honor the following students and wish them continued success in their life’s journey.
