For the majority of my time at Perkins + Will Atlanta, GA, I was in the model shop collaborating with the designers in order to bring many concepts to life in physical form. Shown are a few examples of the work which I produced for the firm, while my other work involved Revit details and annotations.

This model is of BMW North America’s new headquarter office complex. Like many of these models, the base is high-density foam CNC milled, with the building consisting of laser printed pieces taken from Revit and developed further in Rhino.

The model below was a section model created to show specific details in and around the repurposing of an old dairy factory into retail and entertainment spaces both inside and outdoors.

This model was created for a competition held by Mercedes Benz USA. The competition called for a headquarter office building with a potential second phase, which is shown below.

This is a model of Bridgestone’s new office tower in downtown Nashville, TN that is now under construction. The model is made mostly from layered solid sheets of acrylic. The main focuses of the model were facade detailing and specific massing details.

I did not work only on models during my time at Perkins + Will. The other portion of my time was spent with the team for the Bridgestone office tower, as I worked in Revit on construction detail annotation, door schedules for schematic design submittal, and met with engineering and financial consultants.

BEACONNEW ENTERTAINMENT USING

EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE

The site is the Pogues Parking Garage on 4th and Race. The objective is to design a building which must include a pool of any kind and a theater. The reasoning behind the Boys & Girls Club is that it then can be an all-inclusive building with those two and many other programs, including a cafeteria, gymnasium, and a library with a computer lab.

Using the logo of the Boys & Girls Club of America as inspiration, the design aims to combine both active and passive programmatic spaces in a way that separates the two while keeping them on the same level. The side containing the passive spaces is regular and orthagonal, whereas the active space has angled plans to be dynamic and encourage exploration.

PROMENADEFULL-SCALE CONSTRUCTION WITH

REGARDS TO MOVEMENT AND SPACE

Starting with basic figure ground studies that are combined to form 3D foam models, a site on campus is found on which to construct a promenade of individual pavilion spaces that intentionally connect and force movement through the open gatherings and seating areas.

As design leader, conducting multiple iterations in the design process meant coordination and communication between each section was vital to developing a cohesive space. This demanded not only a strong space individually, but a consistent language amongst the entire promenade.

As the site is a central location for movement within campus, we used the flow of people to determine exactly how to orient the space within our designated area. This also led to deciding where to establish more partitions, overhangs, and seating areas.

SITE

Being the first full-scale construction project, learning new skills such as developing cut sheets and a hierarchy of construction in large pieces is helpful. Personally, I was responsible for compiling and presenting the drawings from each section. Overall, the final product was well-built and cohesive.

Creating versatility through repitition allows for a unit which is, in nature, strong as an individual yet even more influential as one of many. This creates a continuous composition that is subject to change in order to accomodate for different spatial needs and purposes.

The intention of the project was to design a row house no more than three stories tall for a family of four. This meant required bedrooms, offices, but also the exploration of withdrawal spaces and a gradient of privacy.

Floor Plans

Sections, both in drawing and model form, were used throughout the design process in order to focus on circulation and develop a reasoning for structural tendencies. In this case, the split-level design creates visual cues for movement and establishes a gradual yet clear privacy gradient that focuses highly on lighting.

With a passion for both graphic design and photography, here are a couple watermark and logo designs for my peers who want to personalize their photographs and graphic identity.

Clifton Traphouse is a local audio engineer and DJ in Cincinnati, OH in need of a logo and name design to use for T-shirts, CDs, and other merchandise. The logo and name possess a strong, energetic composition, while the logo creates a compelling relation to the music production industry.

The prompt was to design an educational facility of any kind with some sort of lodging included. This design is for a religious retreat center, combining the lodging with spaces specifically intended to cover a variety of privacy/intimacy levels, both individually and in a group setting.
