HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR

AUDIENCE?

Page 2: Q5 How did you attract/adress your audience?

In our opening film sequence ‘The Shadows That Guide Us’, we tried to appeal to our target audience within the first two minutes of the opening, this will make the audience intrigued and want to carry on watching.

Once we had figured out the targeted audience, we had to think of the different aspects that would attract this audience and how these would help to maintain the interest of the viewers.

We made sure that our character was a stereotype of a Psychological Horror, for example, the character had long, dark hair, pale skin and dark clothes on.

These are all character stereotypes in Psychological Horrors because they make the audience interested because the characters seem mysterious with the colouring of their clothing and hair, because people associate dark colours with either death or mystery.

The letter, which was being held in the characters hand, is very significant to the rest of the film which is why we did an extreme close up of it. This will tell the audience that there is significance to the letter and make them wonder why, therefore making them want to watch on and figure out the reason behind the letter.

This goes hand in hand with the unseen voice. The unseen voice is reading out what is written on the letter which will further intrigue the audience and again, make them want to figure the importance of the letter.

The wild, barren setting makes the overall opening sequence to the film eerie and creepy because the opening sequence only shows one person stood in a vast field looking out upon the sea which further interests the reader because they will be wondering if the character may do something to herself.

After filming the sequence, we asked our audience what they thought of it.

“It was great! I really want to know what happens next.”

“What happens next?”

“I loved it. I wonder

what will happen

next.”

“We thought it was

fantastic. Great opening

to a film!”
