How did you attract/address your

audience?

MAIN IMAGE • The main image used on the front cover sees the

model use direct mode of address. Most music magazines use a striking photo to use on their front cover to attract an audience. I have tried to make the photo visually appealing to the audience. Furthermore, the photo is shot in mid-shot, although many music magazines shoot their model in close up, I chose to photograph Grace in mid shot, due to the fact I wanted her attire to be included.

• The image that I chose was the most popular with my peers, which I could see from my questionnaire, with 64% of the votes. Click here to see my questionnaire. Consequently, I opted to go with this photo as it became clear to be this was the best one out of all the possible options.

• I also liked the background behind the model on the front cover. The white bricks create a simplistic yet edgy look that conforms to the R&B/indie genre. It also allow the black and red coverlines to stand out even more which further attract and entice my audience.

SOCIAL MEDIA • On my contents page, it can be seen there

are a range of social media platforms that the audience can visit. Having an online presence is important nowadays due to the large amount of people who are active on social media sites, including: Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

• Furthermore, by creating pages for my magazine on these websites, it makes it easier for people to find out the latest news about the magazine. For example, sneak peeks about what is in the latest issue and what offers there are inside. Posts like this could persuade readers to go out and buy the magazine. With my target audience being young, they are more likely to find out things by being on their phones rather than reading articles or listening to the radio.

• Big magazine brands such as Q, NME and MOJO are all active on social media sites and have large following which demonstrates how using social media is effective in this industry.

BUZZ WORDS• Buzz words acts as enticements that magazines

used to attract an audience. They are words that catch the readers attention, for some reason. For example, they could be promoting something or offering something that someone could be interested in.

• I used buzz words on my front cover to further engage my audience and try and give them more reason to buy my magazine. For example, it can be seen that I included a competition, in the top left hand corner. This acts as enticement as well as a unique selling point because it is offering tickets to be won. My target audience are young adults or teenagers. Consequently, I feel that they would be easily persuaded by these buzz words. This is one of the ways I have tried to attract my audience.

• When doing my research, I found that some magazine brands use buzz words on their front cover so I decided to adhere to these conventions and use them myself.

ESTABLISHED ARTISTS

• On the front cover of my magazine and my contents page, one can notice that I have included well known and established music artists that fit into my chosen music genre. These include: Drake, Alicia Keys, Beyonce and Jay Z. All of the following artists have a large following and have been extremely successful throughout their career. The reason this attracts and appeals to my audience is because they may be curious to see what their favourite artists are up to and find out the latest news about them.

• Using established artists also addresses my audience because it reveals how the readers take an interest into certain artists and the music genre itself. Furthermore, it could be argued that the age of the audience is addressed because these artists are popular with younger people, therefore this could show how my audience are also fairly young.

A feature on my contents page which states “Alicia Keys reveals all”. This attracts the audience because it suggests exclusive information about her is inside, inviting them to read ahead.
