HOW CAN THESE PROGRAMS BE MADE TO
BENEFIT ALL EMPLOYEES?
2
Provide Access For All Employees
Some alternatives to computer-based
wellness programs:
• Smartphones
• Cell phone (SMS)
• Direct mail
• Via managers and internal teams
• On-site clinics
“We have a vast majority of employees that don’t have a computer but do need to
lose weight.”

Be Inclusive of All Employees
Strive to engage employees that may
have never considered their health
before:
• Start basic. Educate about risk factors
and solutions.
• Leverage healthy people as an
example, make them wellness
champions.
• Be friendly and encouraging about
change, not intimidating.
“We have an older population with an average age of 49, and it is 80% male. Most of
them have lousy health habits and don’t go to the doctor. 25-30% of our population is high
risk.”
“We need to educate our employees. In the first 6
months of this year, 58 pre-diabetic employees
transitioned into diabetes.”

Use Social As A Strategy to Reach More People
Accessible: Employees can help each other get involved in the program,
helping wellness managers create broader accessibility
Unintimidating: Friends and coworkers can welcome each other into the
program in a welcoming, bottom-up fashion
Sets an example: Healthy coworkers can take the lead and serve as a role
model for others who are just starting out
Engaging: Online social wellness programs regularly engage people with an
average BMI of 30, a generally difficult-to-reach population
Unifying: This approach unites dispersed and diverse employees to work
together
“This program has started us in the right direction. It has activated our
population, united our employees, and shown them that being healthy can
indeed be fun. The program has helped us to reach the majority of our
employees and to build a positive feeling around our corporate wellness
initiatives. Certainly, this program has achieved higher participation than
any other program we’ve implemented.”
