Main sightsKREMLINMoscow's most famous political and historical landmark. The Kremlin is a walled-in complex of cathedrals, palaces and government offices, with several buildings open to the public, including the Armoury, Patriarch's Palace and the State Kremlin Palace.

RED SQUAREThe Red Square is the heart and soul of Russia, rich in symbols of its turbulent and intriguing past. Stroll over the square, visit the Lenin Mausoleum and make sure to pass through the shopping mall “GUM” for their famous ice-cream.

ST BASILS CATHEDRALThe cathedral (see picture on the left), with its bright colours and onion shaped domes, is one of the most famous pieces of architecture in the world.

CHRIST THE SAVIOUR CATHEDRALLocated on the northern bank of the Moskva River, the Christ the Saviour Cathedral as the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world.

NOVODEVICHI CONVENTFounded in the 16th century, Novodevichi convent is the only ancient nunnery which served as a fortress at the same time. The convent provides an example of the highest accomplishments of Russian architecture with rich interiors and an important collection of paintings and artefacts.

PARK POBEDIYVictory Park is an open-air museum about the Second World War (the Great Patriotic War is Russian) on Poklonnaya hill, known for its aspiring obelisk (+140 meters high). While simply walking around the park you'll be amazed to see a lot of tanks, cannons, jets and other weapons from different countries that took part in the war. There are four memorial temples: Georgiy Pobedonocez Church (Saint George Church), Memorial mosque, Synagogue, Catholic Chapel which were all built to remember war victims.

PATRIARCH’S PONDSThis green space in central Moscow is great for people-watching and an ideal spot for some rest and relaxation. The park’spond also serves as an ice rink in the winter and is home to swans in the summer.

CHISTYE PRUDY (CLEAN PONDS)Clean Ponds is a lovely little pond that graces the Boulevard Ring. The paddle boats in summer and ice skating in winter areessential parts of the ambience and make it a popular hang-out. Ironically, the ponds used to be very filthy as the sewagefrom nearby areas was dumped there, particularly from butcher's rows located in the vicinity. In the 17th century, however, the ponds were ordered to clean. Since then, the area has become one of the most favorite places to stroll for manyMuscovites.

BOLSHAYA NIKITSKAYA STREETBolshaya Nikitskaya is a street in the heart of Moscow, parallel to Tverskaya street and Vozdvizhenka passing into NovyArbat. Not only does it have a lot of quaint restaurants and shops, but it also has a rich history dating back to the 16thcentury (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bolshaya_Nikitskaya_Street).

KUZNETSKIY MOST AREAIn downtown Moscow, located between Tverskaya Street and Kitay Gorod, you find the small area Kuznetskiy Most. InSoviet times, many buildings were used by the Government and the area became quite boring. But in the beginning of the90s, a revival took place and currently it is known for its nice restaurants, cocktail bars and clubs. An important landmark ofthe area is that it is home to the Federal Security Bureau (former KGB).

KITAY GORODKitay Gorod is one of Moscow’s oldest areas, emerging in the 14th century when the Kremlin expanded. While translating toChina Town in Russian, there has never been a Chinese settlement here. Instead, the name likely stems from the word Citta, meaning fortification, as the walls of Kitay Gorod protected the city from unwanted visitors.

SRARROW HILLS (PARK AND OBSERVATION PLATFORM)There are plenty of sights on Sparrow Hills, including Moscow State University’s main building - one of the most well-knownStalin skyscrapers. Must-visit is a famous Sparrow Hills observation platform which gives arguably the best panorama of thecity. Not far away from it runs the ropeway that commands equally fascinating view on the city.

MUSEONPark of Arts Museon, founded in 1992, is one of the biggest open-air museums of sculpture in Russia. Its collection includesunique monuments of Soviet epoch (1930-50s). Today Museon actively exposes modern sculptors, completes its collectionswith plein-air paintings and materials from photographic expositions, modern art-objects and video-art materials. Therenewed Krymskaya Embankment has merged the Museon Park and the famous Gorky Park, creating a unique walking area.

GORKY PARKThere are very few things you can’t do in Gorky Park. Rollerblading, skateboarding and cycling, beach volleyball, yoga andfitness classes, electric cars and boat rentals – you name it. There’s an open-air movie theatre called Pioner, pop-up screensfor special events, music festivals and futuristic playgrounds. The best time for visiting is from late spring to early autumn –keep in mind that it might get crowded on the weekends!

NESKUCHNIY SADOnce an area filled with the summer palaces of Moscow's wealthiest nobles, it is now a charming slice of wildlife in the citycenter. The park mostly consists of pristine forest, dotted with old summer pavilions, dilapidated stately homes andchurches, ponds and quaint little stone bridges.

ZARYADYEZaryadye is a new park built in the historic center of the city, a stone’s throw away from the Kremlin and Red Square. Thepark has four different areas representing Russia’s main geographic zones – tundra, steppe, forest and wetlands – andfeaturing the typical micro-climates of each zone. One of the main attractions is the Floating Bridge which hovers over theMoscow River and offers some of the best views over the Kremlin.
