SSunday Readings Commentary: The first reading foretells the return of God’s people from exile in Babylon. Even the most helpless will share in the joy of this great event. First Reading: Jeremiah 31:7-9 (149B) Thus says the LORD: Shout with joy for Jacob, exult at the head of the nations; proclaim your praise and say: The LORD has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them back from the land of the north; I will gather them from the ends of the world, with the blind and the lame in their midst, the mothers and those with child; they shall return as an immense throng. They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them; I will lead them to brooks of water, on a level road, so that none shall stumble. For I am a father to Israel, Ephraim is my first-born. Thanks be to God Responsorial Psalm: 126:1-2, 2-3, 4-5, 6 R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion, we were like men dreaming. Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with rejoicing. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Then they said among the nations, "The LORD has done great things for them." The LORD has done great things for us; we are glad indeed. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Restore our fortunes, O LORD, like the torrents in the southern desert. Those that sow in tears shall reap rejoicing. R. The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Although they go forth weeping, carrying the seed to be sown, They shall come back rejoicing, carrying their sheaves. Commentary: The second reading sets out the things that are required of a priest and shows how Christ met these perfectly. Second Reading: Hebrews 5:1-6 Brothers and sisters: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God,

just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Gospel Acclamation: (Stand) R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia Our Savior Jesus Christ destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel. R. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia Commentary: In the gospel of Mark, Jesus hears the cry of a blind man and gives him back his sight. Gospel: Mark 10:46-52 As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him." So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Appeal - 2021 Cardinal’s Annual Stewardship Dear Parishioners,

Some of you may have received a letter from Archbishop Cardinal Dolan explaining about his Annual Stewardship Appeal. The goals of his Appeal is:

(1) To Support financially-stricken parishes, many of which are struggling to serve the faithful (2) To support feeding programs and other essential human services (3) To support our Catholic schools and various faith formation activities (4) To contribute to the education of new parish priests (5) To care our retired priests who continue to pray and make sacrifices for us (6) And to set aside funds to deal with the Covid-19 crisis (7) The total goal of the Archdiocese for this year is $21 million. Our Infant Saviour Parish goal is $36,000. With 600 households in our

parish, if everyone participates, we can reach our goal this year! In our last Appeal we finished with 97 families participating. However, I believe our parish will do this year better. To date, we have received 76 gifts totaling $17,025.00 Please note that 60% of any cash raised over the goal is returned to our parish. Please prayerfully consider a sacrificial pledge to the 2021 Cardinal’s Appeal. You can make your donations online through www.cardinalsappeal.org. For those who have been contributing to Cardinal’s Appeal annually and for those who are going to be part of it, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude. Thank you so much for your effort, generosity, and commitment. Fr. Niranjan Rodrigo, Pastor.

Church of Infant Saviour Dear Parishioners, Reopening of weekday mass, baptisms, weddings and funerals… The Hudson Valley counties of Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Sullivan, Ulster and Westchester, Sunday Masses have resumed at 100% of the capacity. However, the Archdiocese of New York still requires the church provide physical distancing and that mask restrictions remain in place.

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY IS OCTOBER 24 Special Collection This Weekend

World Mission Sunday, organized by the Propagation of the Faith, is a day set aside for Catholics worldwide to recommit themselves to the Church's missionary activity through prayer and sacrifice. This year, World Mission Sunday is celebrated on October 24th and we will have a special collection for the Missions at all Masses. As described by Saint John Paul II, World Mission Sunday is “an important day in the life of the Church because it teaches how to give: as an offering made to God, in the Eucharistic celebration and for all the missions of the world.” Mission dioceses – about 1,110 at this time – receive regular annual assistance from the funds collected. And every year the needs of the Catholic Church in the Missions grow – as new dioceses are formed, as new seminaries are opened because of the growing number of young men hearing Christ's call to follow Him as priests, as areas devastated by war or natural disaster are rebuilt, and as other areas, long suppressed, are opening up to hear the message of Christ and His Church. That is why the involvement and commitment of Catholics from around the world is so urgently needed. Please give generously and keep the Missions in your prayers. Today vast numbers of people still do not know Jesus Christ. For this reason, the mission ad gentes continues to be most urgent. All the members of the Church are called to participate in this mission, for the Church is missionary by her very nature: she was born “to go forth”. – Pope Francis, June 8, 2014

October, the Month of the Holy Rosary. The Fifteen Promises of Mary Granted to those who Recite

the Rosary The Blessed Virgin Mary promised to Saint Dominic and to all who follow, that “Whatever you ask in the Rosary will be granted.” She left for all Christians Fifteen Promises to those who recite the Holy Rosary.

Imparted to Saint Dominic and Blessed Alan.

1. Whoever shall faithfully serve me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall receive signal graces. 2. I promise my special protection and the greatest graces to all those who shall recite the Rosary. 3. The Rosary shall be a powerful armor against hell, it will destroy vice, decrease sin, and defeat heresies. 4. The Rosary will cause virtue and good works to flourish; it will obtain for souls the abundant mercy of God;

it will withdraw the hearts of men from the love of the world and its vanities, and will lift them to the desire for eternal things. Oh, that souls would sanctify themselves by this means.

5. The soul which recommends itself to me by the recitation of the Rosary, shall not perish. 6. Whoever shall recite the Rosary devoutly, applying himself to the consideration of its sacred mysteries,

shall never be conquered by misfortune. God will not chastise him in His justice, he shall not perish by an unprovided death; if he be just, he shall remain in the grace of God, and become worthy of eternal life.

7. Whoever shall have a true devotion for the Rosary shall not die without the sacraments of the Church. 8. Those who are faithful to recite the Rosary shall have during their life and at their death the light of God and

the plenitude of His graces; at the moment of death they shall participate in the merits of the saints in paradise.

9. I shall deliver from Purgatory those who have been devoted to the Rosary. 10. The faithful children of the Rosary shall merit a high degree of glory in Heaven. 11. You shall obtain all you ask of me by the recitation of the Rosary. 12. All those who propagate the Holy Rosary shall be aided by me in their necessities. 13. I have obtained from my Divine Son that all the advocates of the Rosary shall have for intercessors the

entire celestial court during their life and at the hour of death. 14. All who recite the Rosary are my sons and daughters, and brothers and sisters of my only Son Jesus Christ. 15. Devotion of my Rosary is a great sign of predestination.
