MISSION STATEMENTChurch of the Saviour Foundation provides permanent support to Church of the Saviour by underwriting major maintenance of the church’s grand facilities, providing start-up funds for new ministry initiatives and church programs, and supporting local and worldwide mission work.

In 2018, the Church of the Saviour Foundation distributed $417,884 in grants to fund capital improvements and new ministry opportunities while also celebrating the contribution of legacy gifts to specific ministries. Here are a few examples:

• The Church website got a major makeover, thanks to a collaborative effort by church staff and a foundation-funded communication partner, providing a fresh look and easier access to more information.

• Tuckpointing was completed on all four sides of the 2007 addition, including the upper walkway and entrance to the Great Hall and Early Learning Center.

• New curriculum for Children’s Ministry brought Bible stories to life and provided more tools to connect those lessons to families throughout the week.

• A $10,000 gift toward the Richard A. Hiles Memorial Habitat House helped the church reach its goal and will provide a safe, affordable, new home for a family.

• The Foundation continues to lead the way in reducing the Church’s debt, keeping us sustainable while looking toward the future.

FROM THE LEAD PASTOR I continue to be amazed by what the Church of the Saviour Foundation can do. Legacy funds, some of which were established six decades ago, make possible not only the maintaining but the thriving and renewing of our treasured building, truly one of the most beautiful churches anywhere in our connection. In 2018, we did ongoing maintenance like tuckpointing, HVAC repairs, and major plumbing; but we also added electronic security in the children’s wing and provided inspiring illumination to our carillon tower at Christmas time.

The Foundation is more than just building support, too. It provides vital funding for new ministry opportunities like enhancements to the 9:30 worship service, a couples’ retreat, a grief support group, and our recently released welcome video. We were even able to provide an opportunity for an emerging young leader to attend the Global Young People’s Convocation in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The Church of the Saviour Foundation is a blessing in so many ways. Together, we carry on the living legacies that have brought us this far, the living faith that will carry us into God’s future.

HOW TO GIVE TO THE FOUNDATIONThe Foundation welcomes gifts in any amount.

• Memorial: A simple and effective way to glorify God in memory of a friend, loved one, or fellow church member, memorials are the most common and frequent gifts to the Foundation.

• Special Occasion: Donors may give a gift to honor or memorialize people, events, or significant church occasions such as a milestone birthday, family celebration, baptism, marriage, or anniversary.

• Annual Gift: Annual gifts are encouraged by the Foundation and are recognized in the annual report. Giving levels include: Benefactor $500+, Fellow $100-499, Sponsor $50-99, and Member $25-49.

• Bequest: The easiest and most common planned gift, a bequest provides for a gift to be given after death.

• Insurance: Donors may designate the Foundation as a beneficiary on an insurance policy.

• Charitable Gift Annuity: With a minimum gift of $15,000, an individual or couple may receive annuity payments for life, with the remainder passing to the Foundation upon the individual or couple’s death.

• Charitable Remainder Trust: Donors may make a substantial gift now, receive tax benefits, and realize income. It is more flexible, more complicated, and usually involves an attorney to document.

• Property: Donors may give gifts of property, including shares of stock and other marketable securities.

Please contact the church office to learn more about the Foundation and ways to give.

While I believe the church members who founded our Foundation were certainly forward-thinking, I cannot imagine that even they could have dreamed of the impact it has had on our church. The Foundation provides long-term, permanent support to church programs, to our beautiful building, and to our members – support that has included millions of dollars of grants throughout its sixty-plus years. During 2018 alone, the Foundation distributed more than $417,000 in scholarships, program grants, and capital funds.

Please accept my sincere thanks, on behalf of all of the Foundation Trustees, for your memorial gifts, planned gifts, and endowed funds given this year. With your generous gifts and ongoing support, our Foundation has been able to provide its significant and meaningful impact.

I also thank the Foundation Trustees for their hard work throughout the year, their thoughtful decisions on grant requests, and their diligence in investing and protecting the Foundation assets.

The Foundation welcomes gifts in any amount and for any reason. With your support, we as a Church can continue to raise up God in this community and bring new life to greater heights.
