SARAH MALIKCEO and International Disputes Counsel, SOL International Ltd

Sarah Malik is an experienced and well-regarded lawyer whose 21-year career to date has spanned internationally. Prior to founding SOL International Ltd in August 2018, she practiced as a Barrister at a leading set of Chambers in London, worked as employed Counsel at a leading UK law firm and headed the Advocacy and Investigations team of an International law firm in Dubai. Sarah is a member of the SIAC Users Council in the Middle East and is appointed on the Lagos Panel of Arbitration Neutrals and is involved with the Lagos Court in teaching arbitration practitioners. She is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.. Sarah undertakes international commercial arbitrations as Counsel (DIAC, ADCCAC, DIFC-LCIA, ICC) and practices commercial litigation in the DIFC and ADGM Courts. In addition to practice, she is a visiting lecturer at Middlesex University Dubai in International Commercial Litigation and Arbitration. Sarah is regularly involved in high profile arbitration seminars, events and training, both within the UAE and internationally, including training on advocacy, drafting and cross-examination skills.

GARY BORNChair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP

Gary Born, Chair of the International Arbitration Practice Group at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr LLP, is one of the world’s pre-eminent authorities on international commercial arbitration and international litigation.

He has served as counsel in over 650 arbitrations, including several of the largest arbitrations in ICC and ad hoc history, and has sat as arbitrator in more than 200 institutional and ad hoc arbitrations. Mr. Born is President of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) Court of Arbitration and serves in an advisory capacity in other institutions around the world. He is a member of the American Law Institute and of the Board of Trustees of the British Institute for International and Comparative Law. He has served on the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law, the Advisory Committee of the ALI’s Restatement of US International Arbitration Law, the Advisory Committee of the ALI Restatement of US Foreign Relation Law (Fourth) and as co-chair of the ABA International Section, Committee on International Aspects of Litigation.

CHRISTIAN P. ALBERTI, ESQ.

Chief of ADR, Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA)

Christian P. Alberti is the Chief of ADR at the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA) in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He supervises the SCCA’s case management secretariat and its caseload.

Prior to joining SCCA in 2018, he was the Assistant Vice President of the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR), the international division of the American Arbitration Association, Inc. (AAA), in New York City. He supervised staff and related management activities and oversaw thousands of large complex multi-party arbitrations and mediations covering all types of disputes and industries each year. He also teaches as Adjunct Professor at New York University School of Law on “International Arbitration and the CISG”. Prior to joining the ICDR in 2005, Christian headed the Italian Desk of a mid-size law firm in Germany.

Christian is a founding member of the International Arbitration Club of New York, a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb), the past President and Honorary Member of the Alumni Association of the Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot (MAA), and a member of various international ADR associations and U.S. Bar committees. He is regularly invited to speak at international conferences and guest lectures at various universities about international arbitration and mediation in the United States and abroad. He successfully coaches NYU’s Vis Moot Team since 2007 and its Foreign Direct Investment Moot Team since 2008.

After studies at the Philipps-University of Marburg, the German University for Administrative Sciences Speyer (DHV) and the University of Queensland he was admitted to practice law in Germany in 2003 and in the State of New York in 2011. He obtained an LL.M. from Tulane University Law School in 2002.

He speaks fluent English, German and Italian.

Head of Dispute Resolution, Al Tamimi & Company

Dr. Hassan Arab is a leading dispute resolution expert in the UAE and the wider Middle East with full rights of audience before all courts in the UAE. He regularly sits as an arbitrator and is called upon to provide legal expert opinions before arbitral tribunals and foreign courts.

Dr. Arab has been recently elected as the Chair of the Steering Committee of the ICC-UAE Commission on Arbitration & ADR. He has authored several publications on arbitration and dispute resolution, including a book on the Civil Procedures Law in the UAE and the Summaries of UAE Courts’ Decisions on Arbitration.

LEONORA RIESENBURG FCIARBChair of the UAE Branch for the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb)

Leonora Riesenburg is an International Arbitrator and Commercial Mediator, registered with arbitral institutions worldwide including AIAC, CRCICA, DIAC, DIFC-LCIA, EMAC, ICC and LCIA, a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb), the presiding Chair of the UAE Branch of the CIArb and an Independent Member of Board of Management of the CIArb.

Dual qualified from the UK as a barrister and a solicitor, Ms. Riesenburg has been in the MENA region since 2007. She is invested in the advancement of private dispute resolution in all of its forms; including through strategic collaborations, and education and training initiatives. Recognised as a leading female figurehead, Ms. Riesenburg’s professional contributions are marked by many prestigious awards and honorary roles. She is celebrated as ‘Outstanding Woman of the Year’ amongst the international arbitrators and engineering experts community in the UAE (IAEE UAE 2019), ‘Most Influential Woman in ADR in the Middle East’ by Acquisition International Legal Awards 2019, ‘Mediator of the Year in the UAE’ by Acquisition International Dispute Resolution Awards 2018, ‘Arbitrator of the Year in the UAE’ by Acquisition International Dispute Resolution Awards 2017.
