SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVE:1. Identify the Roles and Functions of Educational Technology in the 21st Century Education;

2. Understand the integration of technology as the fundamental building block of education; and

3. Evaluate the school and classroom if they play the role in 21st Century Education

INTRODUCTION: The term “21st Century” has become the central part of Educational thinking and planning for the future. Creating a 21st century education system is about making sure that all students are prepared to succeed in a competitive world- a world with plenty of opportunities for highly skilled individuals and limited options for everyone else.

We blend traditions and create unique belief systems that are not thought in any classrooms but are developed through our life experiences and passions.The role of education is to prepare students to become active, successful, and contributing members of society.

Maximize the impact of technology to develop proficiency in 21st century skills, support innovative teaching and learning, and create robust education support system.

In order to prepare students to play their role in 21st Century society we are part of, the following can be considered when deciding how education will look in our schools and classrooms.

Instruction should be student-centered

Education should be Collaborative

Learning should have context

Instruction should be student-centeredStudent-centered learning is strongly

encourage in the 21st century, this does not mean that the teacher can never give a lecture again.

Students will need to be able to acquire new information as problems arise. Then, they will need to connect the new information with the knowledge they already have and apply it to solving the problem at hand.

They will need to have ‘learned how to learn’ and in this classroom model, the teacher would act as a facilitator for the students.

The student will gather information on their own under the guidance of their teacher.

Students have an enhanced sense of motivation and responsibility.

They engage in many different types of hands-on activities, as well as demonstrate learning in many different ways.

Education should be CollaborativeStudents must learn how to collaborative

with others.

Students should be encourage to work together to discover information, piece it together, and construct meaning.

Collaborative should also be dynamic

Students should learn how to recognize the different strengths and talents each person can bring to a project, and change roles depending on those attributes.

Schools should be collaborating with other educational institutes around the world to share information and learn about different practices or methods that have been develop.

Learning should have context

o Students are engaged to learn in different ways, the teacher will provides guidance as to the skills that need to be acquired.

o The teacher can make a point of helping students to understand how the skills they are building can be applied in their lives.

o Students will be able much more motivated to learn something that they can see the value.

o Since we are no longer preparing students for specific tasks and roles, we need to take a more general approach and teach them the skills that are useful in any situation.

Educators can leverage technology to create an

engaging and personalized environment to meet the

emerging educational needs of our current generation. It is important for our students to learn in a global classroom,

acknowledge that the classroom extends beyond

the physical walls.

Our students are more inclined to find information by accessing the internet

through cellphones and computers. It is necessary to embrace this highly

motivational interest and embed it in our teaching. As digital capacity expands and

our training in technology use grows, teachers will begin to utilize technology to better meet the needs and interest of students through technology application

and instruction.

There is a call for action to integrate technology as a fundamental building block into education in three broad areas: Use technology comprehensively to

develop proficiency in 21st century skills.
