Dear Parishioners,
This past weekend at all of our masses, I explained to you
the plans which are underway by the Archdiocese for the
reorganization of our parishes in our three archdiocesan
counties of Litchfield, Hartford and New Haven. Recent-
ly, the priests of the Farmington Deanery were presented
with a proposed plan of the organization for discussion.
The priests from the other areas were presented with
the same plan.
Our Farmington Valley priests will come together once
more in a meeting on Friday March 3 with the priests
from Bristol and Plainville to discuss this plan and to offer
their final input and observations on the proposal. Subse-
quent to this meeting each parish in this area will be
asked to send four lay representatives to another meeting
to get their reaction and any suggestions they may have
regarding this proposed reorganization. After input from
these two groups, the plan will be finalized and made pub-
lic this Fall. Implementation will then begin.
For us, one of the important points in this plan of the re-
organization is the proposal that our parish remain a
stand-alone parish. This means it will not be joined with
any other parish in this reorganization. However, this
proposal of St. Patrick to remain a stand-alone parish re-
quires us to take those important steps necessary to
make sure that we will be a vibrant parish in the future.
This means adjustment to our structures since they are
not adequately serving us even now. What that will be
has not been finalized. This means that all the discussions
about adjustments to our church building over the past
35 years must now come to a conclusion. The Archbish-
op has determined that St. Patrick can be a stand-alone
parish, but we must make those changes necessary to
meet the needs of a 21st century parish. This requires us
to move ahead on our church addition.
I have received permission from the Chancery to hire an
architectural firm and to hire a fundraiser to accomplish
this goal. Any addition will require active financial sup-
port from you our parishioners. Generations ago, the
people of St. Patrick parish sacrificed to build our present
church and it has served our community well. Now we
must sacrifice for future generations to provide the parish
structures necessary to serve a parish in the 21st century.
I shall keep you informed as to the progress of this effort.
I know that it will be a challenging task for all of us.

In the Sacrament of Penance and Reconciliation, also called confession, we meet the Lord, who wants to grant for-giveness and the grace to live a renewed life in him. The Church encourages frequent confession in order to grow closer to Christ Jesus and his Body, the Church.
This Lenten season, the Archdiocese of Hartford is working to make it easier for Catholics to experience God’s love and mercy in this sacrament. All the churches of the Archdiocese will be open for Confessions every Monday during Lent from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

LENT is Coming Soon!
The Liturgy Committee and the Parish Council are work-ing on planning Parish Family Activities for the Season of Lent, which will begin on Ash Wednesday, March 1.
Soup & Bread Suppers / Stations of the Cross / Works of Mercy Collections on Friday nights in the Season of Lent will be a time of prayer, spirituality and community build-ing. Soup & Bread Suppers at 6:00 p.m. and the Stations of the Cross at 7:00 p.m. on the following Friday evenings in Lent: March 3, March 10, March 31, April 7. Please make this a Lenten Parish Family Tradition~! There will be no charge for the Soup & Bread Suppers, but rather donations will be collected for the Charities chosen for the Works of Mercy.
The weekend of March 3, 4, 5 the Works of Mercy Col-lection will be donations for the Farmington Food Pan-try. Items needed are r ice, beans (canned or dr ied), to-mato sauce, cereals, flour, sugar, coffee, tea. Contact: Mary –Lee Austin: [email protected]. Donations may be left in the Parish Hall. Thank you for your generosity.
The Soup & Bread Supper on March 3 will be spon-sored by the parents of children in Preschool – Grade 4. Knights of Columbus will also help with this evening. The Stations of the Cross for Children will be read by children in Grades 3& 4, and the younger children will pass out booklets for the Stations. * Please be sure to pick up a Lent Booklet that can be found at the doors of the church, so that you will be aware of the many things happening in the Season of Lent at St. Patrick Church.
GIFT
Due to the snowstorm last weekend, GIFT on Sunday, February 12 was rescheduled for this Sunday, February 19 from 2:00-4:30 p.m. Thankfully, Deacon Art Miller has adjusted his calendar so that he will be the guest speaker. The theme is “Lent: Death of the Messiah: Dying to Self.”

lieve, with an opportunity to address issues with which
you may have problems.

Men’s retreat Our Lady of Calvary March 18-19
The theme for our Men’s Retreat is Saint Joseph: A Model of Compassion and Humility. Compassion and humility are two essential spiritual attributes men need in order to nurture and strengthen their relationships with their wives, children, extended family, neighbors, and coworkers. Prayer Shawl Meeting
The St. Patrick Prayer Shawl knitters will meet on Feb 24 , from 12-2pm in the church kitchen.
Comfort in Shawl Free prayer shawls are available to comfort a relative, friend, caregiver, or neighbor who would find solace wrapped in a soft shawl made with love and blessed by prayer.
