Much of our most productive farmland borders these waterways. weather events in the past few years have demonstrated the vulnerability of these areas. riparian buffer plantings reduce the impact of flooding and erosion, but often require taking valuable land out of production. The public is invited to hear Connor Stedman, ecological designer and educa-tor based in western New england, discuss some new ap-proaches to achieve the conservation benefits of buffers, while maintaining production of marketable crops from the buffer area. Saratoga SpringS citY center welcomeS Saratoga SurrenDer SculptureSaraTOGa SPrINGS - The City Center’s 30th anniversary celebration continues as it welcomes the “Saratoga Sur-render Sculpture,” a bronze bas-relief, on loan from The Friends of Saratoga Battlefield. This massive 4’ by 6’ bronze depicts the “turning point of america’s revolutionary war,” when British General Burgoyne surrendered his sword to american General Gates. The event was a pivotal moment in america’s quest for independence. This impressive new work of art was created by Chas Fagan, a nationally known painter and sculptor. The subject is based on artist John Trumbull’s famous oil painting called “The Surrender of John Burgoyne,” which is prominently housed in the U.S. Capitol rotunda. The “Saratoga Surrender Sculpture” is now on display in the City Center’s main lobby for the pub-lic to appreciate Monday through Friday from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through Monday, May 19, 2014. The City Center is located at 522 Broadway in Saratoga Springs, NY. after a tour of various venues in Saratoga County, the artwork will be permanently placed in a new memorial park

called the Saratoga Surrender Site, south of Schuylerville, NY. The City Center is pleased to have another occasion to welcome the community through its doors and continue the effort of “Bringing People Together.”

Fri-day, June 13, 2014, following the conclusion of the parade, local musical group, Big easy revue, will take the stage at the gazebo at Mowry Park beginning at 6:30 p.m. Led by Greenwich resident Matt edwards, Big easy revue (for-merly known as Buck2Fifty) is a 5 piece band that brings a swinging, Calypso and soulful mix of music which sounds like it comes straight from the streets of New Orleans. On Saturday, June 14, 2014, the gazebo will be alive with more musicians to entertain the crowds. Get Up Jack takes the stage at 1 p.m. playing Irish and contemporary music. The Supportive Services for veteran Families (SSvF) program can provide monetary relief as well as extensive case management for veteran families that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming homeless. Temporary financial assistance is available for rental assistance, utilities fees, security deposit, moving costs, emergency supplies, child care and transportation. Case management and referral services include health care, daily living activities, financial planning, transporta-tion, income support and legal assistance. The goal of the SSvF program is to promote housing stability among very low income veteran families who reside in or are transi-tioning to permanent housing in the following New York State counties; washington, warren, Saratoga, Schenect-ady, Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie.
