The ride consists of a 100 mile scenic road course through the mountains of Rensselaer, Columbia, and Berk-shire Counties to raise money for sports and social pro-grams for children and adults with disabilities. SARATOGA SPRINGS CITY CENTER WElCOMES SARATOGA SURRENDER SCUlPTURESARATOGA SPRINGS - The City Center’s 30th Anniversary celebration continues as it welcomes the “Saratoga Sur-render Sculpture,” a bronze bas-relief, on loan from The Friends of Saratoga Battlefield. This massive 4’ by 6’ bronze depicts the “turning point of America’s Revolutionary War,” when British General Burgoyne surrendered his sword to American General Gates. The event was a pivotal moment in America’s quest for independence. This impressive new work of art was created by Chas Fagan, a nationally known painter and sculptor. The subject is based on artist John Trumbull’s famous oil painting called “The Surrender of John Burgoyne,” which is prominently housed in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda. The “Saratoga Surrender Sculpture” is now on display in the City Center’s main lobby for the pub-lic to appreciate Monday through Friday from the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through Monday, May 19, 2014. It begins at the K Mart Plaza, travels along Main Street, to Hill Street and to Academy St. The evening continues with a bang to the sounds of the Big Easy Revue an area New Orleans Swing-Calypso-Soul group. Saturday starts bright and early with the running of the Whipple City 5K Race at 8:30. The day continues with great food choices for lunch and din-ner. An Artisan Market of local craftspeople in Mowry Park, a family area of bounce houses , a rock climbing wall and other children’s activities at the town & village municipal buildings on Academy St. There will be free horse & wagon rides through the village on Saturday. PROGRAM TO ASSIST lOW INCOME VETERANSSARATOGA CO. - Saratoga County RPC, through its Vethelp division, is pleased to announce a new program to aid veterans and their families in their struggle to maintain permanent housing. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program can provide monetary relief as well as extensive case management for veteran families that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming home-less. Temporary financial assistance is available for rental assistance, utilities fees, security deposit, moving costs, emergency supplies, child care and transportation. Case management and referral services include health care, daily living activities, financial planning, transportation, in-come support and legal assistance. The goal of the SSVF program is to promote housing stability among very low income Veteran families who reside in or are transition-ing to permanent housing in the following New York State counties; Washington, Warren, Saratoga, Schenectady, Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie.
