THeRe’S STill Time To HoST a fReSH aiR cHild in albany aReaCAPITAL DISTRICT - June 30th, 2014 marked the begin-ning of Fresh Air summer experiences for thousands of inner-city children and their volunteer host families as The Fresh Air Fund kicked off its 138th summer of serving New York City children. By volunteering as a host family in Al-bany Area, NY, you can share the pure joys of summer with a Fresh Air child in your own backyard! The Fresh Air Fund is currently seeking more families to give inner-city children a Fresh Air experience this summer. Fresh Air sum-mers are filled with children running barefoot through the grass, gazing at star-filled skies or swimming for the first time. Each summer, over 4,000 inner-city children visit sub-urban, rural and small town communities across 13 states from Virginia to Maine and Canada through The Fresh Air Fund’s Volunteer Host Family Program.The Fresh Air Fund, an independent, not-for-profit agency, has provided free summer experiences to more than 1.8 million New York City children from low-income communities since 1877. Fresh Air children are boys and girls, from six to 18 years old, who live in New York City. Children on first-time visits are six to 12 years old and stay for one or two weeks. Chil-dren who are reinvited by host families may continue with The Fresh Air Fund through age 18 and can enjoy extended trips. Over 65 percent of all children are reinvited to stay with their host families, year after year. CAPITAL DISTRICT - Club members are col-lecting non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Franklin Community Center and the Mechanicville Community Center to help feed kids that are out of school and will not be receiving free or reduced breakfast and

The final school bell of the year will ring before we know it, and children will leave their schools for the summer. 2014 SaRaToga counTy faiR lego conTeST SARATOGA CO. - The 173rd Saratoga County Fair invites everyone to enter the Lego Contest at the fair on Wednes-day, July 23, 2014. The fair runs from July 22-27, 2014. There is no entry fee with your paid admission to the fair. All entries must be labeled with your name, age and title of the piece. The age categories are four to six years old, seven to nine years old, ten to twelve years old, thirteen to fifteen years old and finally, a “family” category. The theme is “Fun at the Fair.” Use Legos to build animals, buildings, farming equipment, rides, create whatever your imagina-tion dreams up that has to do with fun at the county fair. sion’s educational programs. A donation of $85 per person includes: green fees, cart, chicken barbecue, goodie bag, awards and prizes. 18TH annual iRiSH 2000 feSTivalBALLSTON SPA – The celebration that is midway to St. Pat-rick’s Day -- the Irish 2000 Music and Arts Festival -- takes

over the Saratoga County Fairgrounds on Sept. 12 and 13 with new groups and old favorites. The festival features more than 25 performers and two days of all things Irish. It opens at 5 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 12, with performances by Kilrush, Scythian, Clan na Gael and the Red Hot Chilli Pipers. On Saturday, Sept. 13, Irish 2000 opens at 10 a.m. and continues until midnight, with three stages of non-stop music and a fourth stage where Irish dance takes the center. Discounted tickets will be available through Price Chopper’s Tickets to Go program starting on August 3 or through the festival website through Sept. 11. Those using their Price Chopper AdvantEdge Card receive an additional $1 the advance sale prices. Advance sale Fri-day only tickets are $16, Saturday only tickets are $18. A two-day pass is available by advance sale only at $29. At the gate, tickets for Friday only are $20. Tickets for Satur-day only are $25 at the gate. Children ages 12 and under are admitted free. pRogRam To aSSiST low income veTeRanSSARATOGA CO. - Saratoga County RPC, through its VetHelp division, is pleased to announce a new program to aid veterans and their families in their struggle to maintain permanent housing. The Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program can provide monetary relief as well as extensive case management for veteran families that are homeless or at imminent risk of becoming home-less. Temporary financial assistance is available for rental assistance, utilities fees, security deposit, moving costs,

emergency supplies, child care and transportation. Case management and referral services include health care, daily living activities, financial planning, transportation, in-come support and legal assistance. The goal of the SSVF program is to promote housing stability among very low income Veteran families who reside in or are transition-ing to permanent housing in the following New York State counties; Washington, Warren, Saratoga, Schenectady, Montgomery, Fulton and Schoharie.
