Parent Information Session

This evening we will be holding our parent information sessions. This is a great chance to meet your child’s teacher and learn about the class’s routines. To meet the needs of busy families, each class will be holding 2 identical sessions. Please choose the session that is most convenient for you to attend.

Session 1 – 5:30pm – 6:00pm

Session 2 – 6:00pm – 6:30pm

The meetings will take place in the classrooms. We look forward to seeing you!

School Fees

Each year we ask that families pay a voluntary school fee to assist in providing educational resources for the school. This year the amount is $80. ($50 resource fee + $30 voluntary contribution). If this could be paid by at your earliest convenience, it would be most appreciated. Thank you for your support of our school’s educational programs.

School Calendar

Each term the school will work with the P&C to produce a term overview. This is to assist families in keeping in touch with upcoming school events. Please find attached to this newsletter a copy of the Term 1 calendar.

Wallsend Library – ‘Good App-ternoon’

Wallsend District Library offers a monthly kid’s app club, where children have fun exploring, designing, coding and creating. The next session is Wednesday 8

th March at 4:00pm. Entry is

free, however, bookings are essential. Contact on (p) 49856680 or in person at Bunn Street, Wallsend.

Volunteering

The school is lucky to benefit from such wonderful volunteers. If you intend on volunteering at the school in any capacity, you are required to complete a Working with Children Check declaration which are to be completed annually. If this is your first time completing the process, you will also need to supply 100pts of identification. This is in line with the Department’s Policy in ensuring all students are safe at school.

Schools A to Z

A great resource which provides practical help for parents in matters relating to school is the Schools A to Z website. It has fantastic sections on subjects at school, wellbeing and technology. There is information to support students from

Kindergarten to Year 12. Please follow the link below if you are interested.

SRE and Ethics

Special Religious Education (SRE or Scripture) has started for grades 1 and 2. Information for these classes is informed by student enrolment forms.

At this stage, we have a suitably qualified SRE teacher, however as yet we do not have enough trained Ethics instructors to offer these classes. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Mr Swain to discuss.

P&C News FRIDAY RECESS CANTEEN Each Friday the P&C runs a small canteen which sells snack food and is manned by two parent/carer volunteers. The canteen is held at second lunch, between 12:45pm and 1:10pm every Friday. We are currently looking for volunteers to cover Friday Canteen for Terms 1, 2 & 3 this year.

If you are able to help please fill in the slip sent home last week or on Skoolbag under eforms and return to the cream P&C drop box outside the office by the 17

th

February so that a canteen roster can be completed.

Our Friday canteen volunteers for this week are Sarah Clement and Katie Draper

Canteen is held between 12:45 and 1:10pm (recess time). Please make sure you can setup at 12:30 ready for this time.

As a general rule children should bring no more than $2.00 on this day. Please make sure your child is aware of where their money has been placed in their bag (preferably in a little, easy to open wallet) so that they do not become distressed by not being able to find it. Discussing beforehand with your child what canteen options are available and what they might like to purchase is also helpful in the smooth running of canteen.

THURSDAY MORNING TEA

It was great catching up with and meeting new parents last Thursday hope to see more parents at this week’s morning tea. Morning tea will be running each week this term on Thursday mornings after drop off, in the library (near the office). Don’t forget, children welcome too! Feel free to just pop in and say hi and maybe grab something to go even if you can’t stay. See you there.

BUNNINGS BBQ

Our school has a fundraising BBQ at Kotara Bunnings coming up on Saturday 4

th March. These BBQs are often

the most profitable fundraising activities we have over the year as well as being a great place to meet other parents.

Assistance is required to help cook the BBQ, make the sausage sandwiches and serve. The BBQ runs from 8:30am- 4pm. This is split into 4 shifts and volunteers are needed to cover these shifts. Enclosed shoes must be worn on the day as you will be near the hot BBQ. Due to safety reasons only adults are able to assist.

If you are available to help out, please fill in the form sent home last week and return it to the cram P&C drop box outside the office by Friday 17

th February. Alternatively

you can fill in the form on skoolbag under eforms.

GENERAL VOLUNTEERING

There are many ways, both big and small (but all really helpful), that you can be involved in helping the P&C throughout the year, cutting out paper apples for teacher appreciation week, stamping raffle tickets, helping kids make mother or father’s day gifts, baking cupcakes and so many more. If you are happy to be sent emails from the P&C when we need a hand with something, please let us know by either filling out the space on the volunteer slip sent home today or emailing the P&C nlhipandc@gmail.com . We will add you to the call out list and let you know whenever something comes up. Never any pressure, just say yes to those things you can do.

P&C MEETING & AGM

On Wednesday 1st March, we will be holding our annual

AGM and P&C meeting at 7:30pm in the Resource Room. All are very welcome to attend. There are nomination forms available from the rack outside the office for anyone interested in nominating for an Executive position (President, Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary). The completed form must be handed directly to Mrs Whetham in the office.

There is a brief outline of the role of each member of the executive on the back of the nomination form. If you would like further information, please feel free to contact the office.

New parents are more than welcome to attended the AGM and please be assured that you will not be pressured into taking a position.

To be eligible to vote at a P&C meeting, you must be a financial member of the P&C. The cost of membership is $2.00. The February meeting was the last opportunity to join prior to the AGM, however, you are more than welcome to attend any upcoming meeting during 2016 to be eligible to vote at future meetings. The AGM will begin at 7.30pm in the Resource Room, next to the Staffroom.

Even if you are not a financial member you are welcome to attend meetings. It’s a great way to become involved in upcoming P&C events and get to know some other parents. New parents are especially welcome.
