    Dear Friends,

Fall is, by far, my favorite season of the year. Theres justsomething new and different in the air! This time of year, I

have the inexplicable urge to buy new day planners and freshly-sharpened pencils, as if I am going back to school myself. This

back-to-school season is a time for all of us, kids and adultsalike, to start fresh and explore new opportunities. Every Sep-tember, it is as if we have the chance to experience New Yearsall over again!

In many ways, it is back-to-school time for East StroudsburgUnited Methodist Church as well. New things are happening.Theres something electrifying in the air at East StroudsburgUnited Methodist Church. God is in the air at our church!

This fall, we are experiencing many new beginnings. We are

welcoming Pastor Ed and Faith Kimes back after a year of min-istry in Falmouth, England. We are looking forward to thecompletion of our basement renovation and are eagerly antici-

pating the ways that we can use that space to achieve Godsvision for our church. We are reaching out to our community

by opening a new Christian preschool. We are revamping our every member in ministry commitment program and our finan-cial pledge program so that we can all grow deeper in our rela-tionships with God.

We are planning new opportunities for fellowship, community outreach, and discipleship. God is certainly in the air at East Stroudsburg United

Methodist Church! This fall is just full of possibilities! Join us as we cele- brate all of these new beginnings at our End-of-Summer Celebration onSunday, September 12 . This is sure to be a wonderful time when we canall come together and celebrate the ways that God is moving in our church.Lets begin a new year together!

ChristThis year we have a new look and time-frame for our commitment program. We are working towards

changing the commitment year from January through December to September through August. In order tomake this transition, your commitment will take place from January 1, 2011 through August 31, 2011.We have changed the layout of the Commitment Card and the way our ministry opportunities are listed Everyministry will now be categorized under these four areas:

Grow - We are all called as servants to help each other grow spiritually.2 Peter 3:18, But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior

    Jesus Christ.

Serve - We are called as servants to reach out and share the Good Newswith others. Galatians 5:13 says, You were called to freedom, only do not

use your freedom as an opportunity for self-indulgence, but through lovebecome servants to one another.

Connect - We are called as servants to connect people to Gods localchurch. Ephesians 2:19 says, You are no longer foreigners, but fellow citi-

zens with God's people and members of God's household.

Praise - We all exist to celebrate Gods presence in worship and celebra-tion. Psalm 68:4 says, Our God, you are the one who rides on the clouds, and we praise you. Your name isthe LORD and we celebrate as we worship you.

Support - We are all called to be faithful stewards to support the church and ministries throughregular financial giving. The stewardship portion of the card will separate from the commitmentcard this year. Every member will be receiving an Estimate of Giving card along with their thirdquarter giving statement. Cards will be received during worship service between the October 24and November 7. The stewardship team will use these estimates to create a realistic budget for 2011 that meets the day to day needs of our church and enables us to grow the vision that Godhas for us at East Stroudsburg.

This is an exciting change for our church. Perhaps God is calling you to take a step of faith and serve Himwhere you would never have imagined! If you have any questions regarding these changes, please call thechurch office at 421-3280 or see Ministry Placement Team Members Jackie Durney and Jan Rosenberger or Stewardship Team Chair, Mark Oney.

We welcome Kimberly Eaton as the newest member of our nursery staff. Kim is currently a East StroudsburgUniversity student majoring in elementary education. She is originally from Milford, PA, she now resides inStroudsburg. Kim joins Miss Ana and Jennesey in our nursery. Please stop in and say hello!

    SUMMER EVENT UPDATES

Creation was a powerful experience. We had several new participantsthis year, and many of them felt something stirring in their hearts andminds. Many of our youth recommitted themselves to the Lord---it wasamazing. The speakers were thought provoking and powerful, and theworship music had us all raising our hands and hearts in praise.

The Pittsburgh Project saw a group of Jr. High youth experience a mis-sion trip for the first time. I know they all had a great time, but more im-

portantly, they heard powerful messages and were led in worship by an

amazing praise band. There were a lot of laughs, a lot of hard work, andsome great discussions about how to continue to move closer to the Lord.

Sr. High Mission Trip was certainly a lesson in how God moves instrange and AMAZING ways. After not being able to find enough adultvolunteers for our scheduled trip to Mississippi, we were graciously ex-tended an invitation to join Hopewell United Methodist Church on their Sr.High trip to Winthrop, Maine.

Ask any youth on the trip and they will tell you just how powerful thiswhole week was. I saw the Holy Spirit moving on this mis-sion trip like I have never seen on another trip. We hadSEVERAL youth expressing that they were ready to servethe Lord with their lives and their careers!

It was such a BLESSING! We worked on various home re- pair projects, and with a total combined group of 62 adultsand youth, we feel like we made a big impact on that com-munity.

Reports and pictures from these summer trips will beshared during September during worship.
