In order to have all of our confirmands confirmed at the same worship service, we will have two worship services that day. The first will be at the normal time, 8:30 a.m We will celebrate the Confirmation Class and you will hear some about it, but it will not include the service of confirmation. It will have the Service of Holy Communion as we normally have on the first Sunday of the month. The second service will be at 10:00 a.m., and will last until about 11:30 am, followed by a reception for our confirmands and their families. This service will combine elements of both our 9:45 and 11:00 a.m. services and will also include the Service of Holy Communion. I m sure you will make every effort to be here to support our confirmands who have worked hard since February!  Before we get to next Sunday, we have an exciting new ministry start- ing on Thursday evening, June 4: the Summer Block Party ! People who walk or drive past our two buildings on S. Courtland St. rarely see any activity in the front of our building; everything normally goes on  inside rather than outside. It might give the impression to those who dont know our church that there isnt much going on. Of course, we know  all the great things that happen here, and we want to acquaint our community with the ministry and mission we do. So, why not have cookouts every Thursday night during June and July and give away free food to our friends and neighbors, who might drive past our location every day but never pay any mind to what happens here?  I give all the credit to Scott and to the youth who dreamed up this great idea. It meets one of the core parts of our churchs vision: CONNECT, as in connecting with our community. However, they can do it alone and need the support of the entire church community to do- nate needed supplies and side dishes. Please see the Block Partyarticle on the 2nd page for more information about how you can help. Of course, we want each of you to come and support the Block Party and to enjoy food and fellowship with your fellow congregants and members of the community!  This Sunday, May 31, I will bring to a close the sermon series, When God ’ s People Pray. The focus this Sunday will be about how we sustain our momentum in prayer as a congregation. Our Wednesday night study group on prayer has some ideas, and we are learning a great deal in our study about how the Brooklyn Tabernacle Church transformed their ministry through a greater emphasis on prayer. I hope youll come and join us this Sunday! Blessings, Pastor Jim Our Vision:  To challenge and encourage every- one in our congregation to know and follow Christ by:   Growing as disciples through Christs teachings  Connecting with one another in Christian community  Serving Christ by serving others   Praising God as we worship Christ  Sunday Services 8:30 a.m. Traditional 9:45 a.m. Contemporary 11:00 a.m. Traditional  East Stroudsburg United  Methodist Church  83 S. Run for God

ESUMC sent a team of about 25 people to MemorialPark in Wind Gap on Memorial Day, for the runningof the Tortoise and Hare 5K race. Each of those whoentered the race did so after 12 weeks of training, asmany had never run a race in their lives, let alone a5K (3.1 mile) race. Everyone finished the race, andthere were members of the church on the sidelinescheering them on, offering encouragement, andhanding out cold water. There are many people tothank for the success of the Run for God  program

which involved up to 40 people in our church andcommunity. Especially we want to thank DarleenMosteller, who has run a number of marathons andhas a passion both for running and for helpingpeople get into running who have not run before. She was extremely encouraging of everyone in-volved and circulated devotionals by email to alleach week. Darleen’s son, Teddy, also a greatrunner himself, was fifth overall (out of a field of400+) and came in first in his age division lastMonday. Everyone who crossed the finish line was a

winner, no matter the time on the clock!
