  • 2Gas-insulated Instrument Transformers for outdoor Installation

Trench Germany the former MWB, founded in1946 is a recognized word-wide leader in thedesign and manufacture of high voltage equipmentfor electrical and industrial systems.

In its long history while utilizing severalinsulation mediums, e. g. epoxy resin, traditionaloil-paper-insulation the company decided tofocus on SF6-gas as an insulation medium for itscomplete production range.

Due to the good experience with SF6-gas as aninsulation medium Trench Germany being thefirst supplier of SF6-voltage transformers for GISin 1965 it was decided in 1985 to abandoncompletely the conventional oil-paper insulatedinstrument transformer product line for outdoorinstallations.

Since this milestone conventional instrument trans-formers with SF6-insulation manufactured by thecompany have found world-wide recognition.

Today Trench is a market leader with more than 10,000 units in service under different environ-mental conditions.

Our full range of instrument transformers covering

    voltage (potential) current combined

units is available for system voltages from 72.5 kV up to 800 kV.

    800 kV Voltage Transformer

  • 3 explosion-proof design by thecompressible insulation mediumSF6-gas and rupture disc

no ageing of the insulation systemand minimum risk of failure

    insulation medium SF6:non-toxic / inert / non-flammable

    gas monitoring by a densimeter

guaranteed SF6-leakage rate ofless than 1% per year

transformer operates at ratedvoltage, even in the case of lossof SF6-pressure

resource-saving due to ecologi-cally beneficial insulation systemand ideal recycling features

optimum field grading is accom-plished by a fine condensergrading system especially devel-oped for this application

meets all IEC and ANSI meteringand protection classes (otherstandards on request)

    Features

    Hollow Composite Insulator

    800 kV Current Transformer

shedded with a high quality sili-cone, therefore long lasting hydrophobicity transfer to pollu-tion layers

significant reduction of leakagecurrents as well as surface dis-charges

    cleaning not necessary

seamless sheds based on ourunique single mould method forassembling the silicone sheds

variable shed distances withoutadditional tool cost

    earthquake resistant

    resistant against vandalism

easy handling during transporta-tion and installation

    low weight and compact SF6-design

the single-section high voltagecoil (not cascaded) of the voltagetransformer section enables aproduct range for combined instrument transformers up to800 kV

head type design with voltagetransformer section located ontop of the current transformer

wide range ferroresonance freedesign without the use of an external damping device (pleaseask for details)

low reactance type primary conductor allows for high short-circuit currents and covers allcore standards

less foundation space requiredcompared to the use of individualcurrent transformers and voltagetransformers
