STRATEGIC PLANNING

many opportunities to get involved as this process develops. Please watch for announcements and updates here to stay informed and learn how you can help KMS further its strategic goals and realize its vision.

MESSAGE FROM RABBI LEVITT Parent-Child Learning begins Motzei Shabbat, November 24. This is an incredible opportunity for parents and children to learn Torah together, enjoy pizza, and have fun! We are looking for a sponsor for this program which will meet 8 times this year. Please speak to Rabbi Levitt or Lisa

Brookman if you would like to sponsor this beautiful program.

SAFETY INITIATIVE

We encourage all members to wear reflector belts when walking home from shul at night. If possible, please acquire a reflector belt for your personal use. You can purchase reflector belts here or here or a reflector vest here. A generous donor purchased a number of reflector belts to encourage this safety initiative. These were in a basket near the electronic signboard in the KMS lobby; if you borrowed one, kindly return it to the basket so they may be available for as many people as possible.

ADOPT-A-ROAD PROGRAM

KMS is looking for a new Adopt-a-Road Program Coordinator. This person will coordinate a clean up every two months and report an update to the county. This wonderful program creates a partnership of citizens and local government to promote civic pride and preserve our clean environment by eliminating roadside litter and decreases the amount of debris/trash that washes into the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. Thank you to Adam Bashein for initiating and generously coordinating this program until now. For more information, please contact Adam: [email protected].

NOMINATING COMMITTEE Contact the 2019 Nominating Committee as soon as possible with recommendations for Directors by November 16. Nominating Committee: Mandi Lowenstein (chair), Miriam Guggenheim, Tobie Hollander, Hilly Kagan, Becky Simkovich, Buddy Stern, Marc Tropp

THANK YOU

Thank you to Yoni Heilman for organizing last week’s ‘Lone Soldier’ panel discussion. Thank you to panelists Orlee & Joey Turitz, Caroline & Eric Namrow, Mira & Ted Mordfin, and Yoni Heilman, and to all who attended.

ERICA & JEREMY BROWN The Browns came to Kemp Mill in 2002 and have been active members of KMS since then. Erica and Jeremy both teach regularly in the shul, and Jeremy currently serves as VP for education. Each of their children has taken a variety of roles in the shul's youth minyan, which prepared them well for community life beyond Kemp Mill. The

Brown children enjoyed being parented by the many KMS members who took an interest in their personal and educational development. Erica and Jeremy are also grateful for the gift of a wonderful son-in-law whose parents, the Kozlowskis, are also shul members.

In between volunteering, Erica and Jeremy actually have day jobs. Jeremy is the Director of Emergency Care Research at the National Institutes of Health. Erica runs the Mayberg Center for Jewish Education and Leadership at GW's School of Education and Human Development, where she also teaches. Tali is finishing an MD/MPH at University of Maryland. Yoni works as a consultant for Deloitte. And both of them are parenting their adorable baby Erez. Gavi is currently doing a PhD in education at Johns Hopkins and Bec, his fashionable wife, works for The Associated in Baltimore, runs a blog called "The Modest Runway" and is about to give Erez a first cousin. Shai is applying to dental school, playing ultimate frisbee and hanging out with his lovely bride-to-be, Alison Boltax (Thanks again, Berman!), and Ayelet is a senior and busy with school, Chai Lifeline, Friendship Circle and the youth minyan. The Browns feel grateful for this amazing community and are counting on their friends to help them manage empty-nesting (even though they come back).

GETTING TO KNOW YOU

In an effort to promote the warm community feeling we strive for here at KMS, we introduce you to KMS members each week. We hope you enjoy meeting fellow members and use these bios as a catalyst to introduce yourself to others at KMS.

“GETTING TO KNOW YOU” BOOK We have compiled a book of all the “Getting to Know You” write-ups thus far. The book is available in the lobby for your perusal. Please “get to know” various members of our shul and introduce yourself when you see them.

If you’d like to be featured in the “Getting to Know You” section of the Shabbat Sheet, please contact

[email protected]. We’d love to hear from you!
