Important Information

Dear Scouters,

It is a real pleasure to welcome you and your Group to the 2014 Shining Waters Council Fall Popcorn Sale!

I want to personally thank you for your time and energy in promoting Scouts Canada’s #1 Fundraiser in your group. The Scout Popcorn sale plays an essential role in allowing your Group to generate the funds needed to provide an amazing program for your youth, as well as reduce the financial burden on families. Hats off to you for making a difference in the lives of the Scouts in your Group!

Last year, Shining Waters Council sold $416,905.00 worth of Scout Popcorn and one of our goals for the 2014 Scout Popcorn program is to increase the number of youth registered in the Trail’s End Scholarship program.

Once again, our annual Scout Popcorn program is popping with some great new products and the return of some old favorites! We are confident that everyone will be excited about this year’s product line up.

The Area Popcorn Coordinators and I are ready to assist you and your Group to have a very successful Scout Popcorn Sale. Please feel free to contact us with questions or assistance you may need. We want to help you grow your Popcorn Sales.

Yours in Scouting,

Dick Riewe SWC Popcorn Coordinator

STEPS TO SUCCESS

Establish an annual Plan and Budget, with input from your Youth and Parents

Set a Group Popcorn Sale Goal – Ideal Year of Scouting, and break that goal down to a Per Youth Goal based on the plan and budget

Put together an exciting incentive program for your Group on top of the Council and Trail’s End prizes. Try the following ideas:

o Have a small prize for all youth who fill up a take order form o Have a pizza party of Section or Group reaches its goal

Conduct a FUN Group Popcorn Kickoff to communicate the program and per Youth popcorn sale goal to the Scouts and Families

Utilize various sales methods to make sure your Group and Youth hit their sales goals:

o Take Orders o Parents Selling at work

SELL POPCORN

Raise all the money your Group needs to fund its ENTIRE Program with the Scout Popcorn Sale, as the one and only fundraiser!

Scout Popcorn returns over 60% of the money raised to support your Group, Scout families and local Council

Proven Product Quality - 2 out of 3 people buy when asked, and are repeat customers

The Ideal Year of Scouting will help you achieve your Group’s dreams in Scouting and get more parents involved in the program

Teach the Youth, the life lesson of earning their own way!

Plan your program to succeed

• NEVER enter anyone's home • NEVER sell after dark unless you are with an adult • NEVER carry large amounts of cash with you • NEVER sell in front of stores or malls without

permission. A responsible adult must be present • NEVER sell at stop lights or street corners • NEVER go to dimly lit areas or places where you are

not clearly visible

• ALWAYS walk on the sidewalk and driveway • ALWAYS sell with another Scout or with an adult you

know • ALWAYS notify your parent or group leader of any

strange activity immediately • ALWAYS fundraise in areas you know • Make a list of friends, family, relatives, and neighbors

to contact instead of selling door-to-door

Safety Tips YOUR SAFETY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY FUNDRAISING

Motivate your Scouts and parents. Keep it fun! Keep it moving! Keep it short!

Show parents and Scouts the benefits of selling Scout Popcorn. Lay out the exciting Scouting program you have planned for the year. Tell families how they can eliminate out-of pocket expenses by reaching their

goal. Explain that Scouts will have fun while learning to earn their own way.

Kickoff Agenda (40 minutes) Grand Opening (5 minutes) – Have popcorn for everyone to eat, display samples Welcome parents and Scouts.

Explain the Scouting program, Group and Scout Goal and key dates (10 minutes) Make sure your families understand the benefit of selling Scout popcorn to help

pay for their Scouting program. Explain to your families where the Group funds will be used. Provide the Group and Scout goal amount. Highlight key important dates in the popcorn sale.

Train your Scouts (10 minutes) Show Scout training videos from the Scout Popcorn website. You can download

these videos to your computer ahead of time if your kickoff location does not have Internet connection.

Present a skit of Do’s and Don’ts … have fun! Showcase Scout Popcorn Rewards (10 minutes) Introduce the Trail’s End and Council rewards along with your Group’s rewards (if

your group adds additional prizes). Explain to the parents about the Trail’s End Scholarship program. Ask a couple of Scouts what they would like to have, then compare it to one of

the gift certificates. Big finish (5 minutes) Send everyone home motivated to sell! Door prize draw (ie; bags of popcorn, gift cards)
