2 - Managing your Child’s Misbehavior~ Tricks of the Disciplining Trade (CD)

6pm-9pm - $25 - This workshop is designed to help providers gain knowledge on

promoting good behavior as well as taking a look at how to promote good behavior

with a positive approach.

3 - Nutrition and Obesity (HSN) 6pm-9pm - $25 - This course will teach proper

nutritional guidelines for children, as well as address and define the growing

problem of obesity in our country. Strategies for dealing with obesity in children

through nutrition, education and exercise will be addressed.

5 - Infant/Toddler #1-Prenatal Development (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm – $20 - If

learning begins at birth, then what happens prior to birth has profound impact on

children’s development as well. This workshop will explore the complex and

wonderful world of prenatal care. Participants will gain insights that will help them

better understand how the fetus grows, and how this affects a child throughout life,

and how to support expectant mothers (and fathers) in your programs. We will talk

about nutritional and environmental impacts, different medical testing and

procedures, pregnancy complications, and supporting “parents to-be.”

10 - Working with Mixed Ages (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - This

workshop is designed to help caregivers identify and address the challenges of

working with mixed age groups of children. Strategies for meeting and

understanding the needs of all individuals in the group will be offered.

11 - Potty Training Made Easy (CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - This course will teach

practical tips for dealing with the challenges of potty training. It will give parents

and daycare providers tips on how to make the transition from the diaper to the

toilet a successful task with little stress.

12 - Infant/Toddler #2 - General Growth and Development (CD/Intermediate/

Advanced) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $20 - This workshop will walk you through the various

stages and milestones of infant & toddler growth & development. Knowledge gained

in this class will help providers meet the individual needs of I/T’s as they go

through this time of life when growth & development happens very rapidly. We’ll

review receptive and expressive language skills, behavioral issues, literacy

development, and brain growth and development in infants and toddlers and what

it means for their long term success.

13 - SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome) 9:30am-11:30am - $20 - In this

workshop you will learn about safe sleep environments to help reduce the risk for

SIDS and other infant death.

14 - Medication Administration (HSN) 9am-3:00pm - $60 - Newly approved Office

of Child Care training teaches all aspects of giving medication safely in your center to

all ages of children. This includes liquids, pills, capsules, topical, epi-pens and also

general information on inhalers. You will even learn how to properly wash your

hands. Requirement for center staff only, but family providers are welcome to

take this class as well.

17 - Why Do They Do That? Understanding Learning Disabilities

(SN) 6pm-9pm - $25 - This workshop will cover typical milestones of

development, assessment tools, strategies when working with the

children, resources to contact, documentation and how to

communicate concerns with parents. Include basic information

surrounding inclusive child care settings. ADA requirements in health,

behavioral and developmental issues and concerns.

19 - Infant/Toddler #3 Routines (CU,CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm– $20

Participants will enjoy exploring ways to plan for the infants &

toddlers in their programs. We will discuss planning appropriate

routines and activities that capitalize on individualized needs; skills

and interests of each child. The workshop will discuss: how to plan

for mixed age groups of infants and toddlers; how to make sure home

and program routines are complimentary; understanding special

licensing requirements for infant and toddler routines; understanding

the role of primary caregivers and how this helps with social and

emotional development; and how to adapt routines for the individual

needs of children.

21 - Emergency and Disaster Preparedness (HSN,P) 9am-3pm - $30

This class is designed for caregivers to become familiar with COMAR

regulations regarding emergency and disaster preparedness for child

care programs. Participants will complete a written emergency and

disaster plan for their child care programs; gain an understanding of

disasters that are not likely to occur in Maryland and know why their

programs should prepare for emergencies and disasters. This

workshop meets the 6 hour COMAR requirement for child care

centers, family providers, and family child care applicants.

23 - First Aid 6pm-9pm – $35 - This workshop is designed for

providers and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child Care

guidelines. First Aid Certificate expires in 2 yrs from date of issue.

23 - Fun with Nursery Rhymes (CU) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 -Enter

the whimsical world of nursery rhymes as we count Little Boy Blue’s

sheep and make his delicious tasting haystacks, match upper and

lower case letters on cows and moons from Hey Diddle, Diddle, retell

Little Miss Muffet using props from a story box and sequence Humpty

Dumpty using flannel board pieces. This is just a wee sampling of

activities planned for this class.

24 - Story Stretchers - Treats and Crafts to Extend Your Adventure

(HSN, CU) 6:30pm - 8:30pm - $25 (includes material fee) - Rediscover some of

your favorite books and enjoy new ones as we bring books to life! Create snack

and craft based “make-and-takes” to keep story time going long after the books

are closed.

25 - CPR 6pm-9pm– $35 – This workshop is designed for providers and parents

of young children. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. CPR certificate expires

in 2 yrs from date of issue.

26 - Infant/Toddler #4 Working with Parents (P,CO) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $20

This class is always a must do! Come and gain insights that will help you better

understand the unique needs of ‘infant/toddler parents; and put you on the road

to building trusting valuable partnerships with the families in your

programs. We will cover: developmental needs of parents (first time parents vs.

experienced parents), effective ways to get parents involved in your program,

how to sensitively share developmental milestones with parents; understanding

different parenting styles, and helping children and parents cope with changes

and transitions.

30 - Conflict Resolution Strategies (P) 6pm-9pm - $25 - This workshop is a

basic “how to deal with conflict” overview. We will discuss conflict management

vs. conflict resolution and the best ways to handle a variety of situations by

recognizing our own conflict management styles. We also will cover being able

to recognize individual circumstances as opportunities to resolution/

management depending on a variety of variables. We will develop resolution

strategies to maintain professional and positive relationships with staff,

children, families, and the community.

1 - Bridging the Gap Between Home and School (CO) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25

This class is designed to help participants understand the concept of building

partnerships with families, discuss barriers to forming partnerships, and

identify strategies for overcoming barriers and creating effective partnerships.

3 - Infant/Toddler # 5 Nutrition (HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $20 - Learning the

importance of creating healthy eating habits very early is critical to healthy

nutritional development as well as the overall development of a child.

Participants will gain tips to communicate with parents about Infant and

Toddler nutrition and have fun with healthy cooking projects. We will review

how poor nutrition contributes to a number of chronic conditions, how to expose

children (and parents) to healthy choices when it comes to food, allergies and

precautions for parents and children; and how to handle “don’t like” foods.

5 - Medication Administration (HSN) *Limit 10 * - 9am-3:00pm - $60 - Newly

8 - I Don’t Feel So Good: Childhood Illnesses (HSN) 6pm-9pm - $25

Understand common childhood illnesses by learning symptoms, treatments,

when it’s necessary to call the doctor, and how to problem solve while keeping

your cool. Expand your knowledge base by learning practical techniques for

providing safe care to infants and children.

10 - Infant/Toddler # 6 Health (HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $20 - Participants will

gain insights into most current health issues for infants and toddlers. This class

will explore varied areas of health, such as common illnesses, communicable

diseases and required vaccinations for children in child care programs.

10 - Fun Circle Time Activities (CU) 6pm-9pm - $15 - Get ready to have some

fun! Join us for circle time! This is a special time in every program when you

gather around with your children and share stories, songs, games, finger plays

and whatever fun activity that comes to mind.

14 - Taming the Tiger - Managing Anger (P) 6pm-9pm - $25 - In this fun

interactive workshop we will look into the causes of anger and discuss

strategies to help caregivers cope when angry feelings arise.

15 - Summer Fun - Taking Your Curriculum Outdoors (CU)

6:30pm-9:30pm $25 - This is an energized class that challenges

participants to think outside of the box and plan activities that in

general are viewed upon as “indoor activities” and take them

outside. We will discuss ways of doing this in practical ways that

involve children’s participation and help participants visualize their

outdoor environment to be more than climbing, sliding, and playing

in a sandbox.

16 - How to Talk to Children about Danger Prevention (HSN)

6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - This workshop will discuss specific

techniques that can be used in educating children on danger

prevention. Participants will have an opportunity to discuss safety

concerns, and issues preventing discussion of danger, and receive

feedback regarding concerns. Participants will gain insight to

dangers in our society . Participants will gain applicable strategies

to use to educate children on danger prevention, from a variety of

sources and experiences.

17 - Infant/Toddler #7 Safety (HSN) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $20 - This

class will demonstrate what is necessary in child care programs for

infants and toddlers to feel safe and secure. We will discuss concrete

ways to ensure your program offers many choices that are all safe

for newborns as well as toddlers on the go.

19 - First Aid & CPR 8:30am-5pm - $60 both/$35 CPR/$35 First

Aid - This workshop is designed for providers and parents of young

children. Meets Office of Child Care guidelines. First Aid Certificate

expires in 2 yrs from date of issue. CPR certificate expires in 2 yrs

from date of issue.

21 - Organization is Key (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - This

workshop is designed to provide strategies for organizing the daily

operations of your family childcare program. During this workshop

we will identify and explore strategies to assist you in time

management - take control of your time; file management; clutter

reduction and ultimately to free your mind!

22 - Creative Drama (CU,SN) 6pm-9pm - $25 - Creative drama is an

improvisational process-centered form of drama in which special

needs children are guided by the teacher to reflect upon a human

experience, using children’s stories. The purpose of creative drama

is to foster personality growth and to facilitate learning for the

children. Creative drama may be used to teach the art of drama and/

or motivate and extend the learning in other content areas.

24 - Infant/Toddler #8 Overview of Special Needs (SN,CD) 6:30pm-

9:30pm - $20 - Many times we think of children or adults with special needs

and how to care for them. This class will help providers identify infant and

toddler special needs. Participants will gain information on areas of special

needs such as food allergies; environmental allergies as well as diagnosed

disabilities and resources to assist providers in caring for these children.

$20 - Come join us as we walk through a process that begins at birth and

continues throughout life. Participants will leave this class with information

that will help them understand the logistical reasons for assessment as well

as screening of infants and toddlers and how to appropriately apply this

knowledge in their programs.

4 - Maryland Model for School Readiness (MMSR) Domain Training: Social Studies (CD, CU,

P, CO, SN) - $35 - This domain explores community from a child’s perspective. Participants will

learn how to introduce children to skills and information about relationships, people where they

live, civics and cultural understanding. *Must attend both parts (6/4 & 6/11)to receive a

certificate*

5 - Stuck Inside? Activities for Active Kids on Rainy Days (HSN,CU) 6pm-9pm $25 - Learn

and practice activities to keep preschool kids active and occupied on days when you can’t go

outside. Please wear comfortable clothing!

6 - Divorce and Children (P, CO, CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $15 - This class will help participants to

better understand what children and families experience as they go through divorce. We will

discuss ways to be supportive of the children in our programs as well as ways to embrace the

extended family.

6 - Exploration of Observation (CD) 6pm-9pm - $25 - This course is designed to help

participants recognize the important of observation in the classroom, identify strategies and

techniques for successful observation and documentation, consider appropriate etiquette for

communication observations with parents, and discuss incorporating observations into program

planning

7 - Infant/Toddler #10 Community Resources for Infants (CO,P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $20

There are many wonderful resources for providers to utilize when working with infant and

toddler families. Learn new innovative ways to tap into the resources available in your

community. Find creative ways of sharing this information with families and applying this

wealth of information to your programs.

12 - Keeping it Professional (P) 6:30pm-9:30pm - $25 - As a child care professional, you are

required to possess a large body of training that helps you sustain a quality program. Your

programs are monitored and regulated by the Office of Child Care. you are held to a high

standard of providing quality care. This workshop is designed to give you professional strategies

to better manage your family child care program.

13 - MSDE Orientation for Accreditation (P) 6pm-8pm - $10 - This orientation is designed

for Center Based Child Care and Head Start programs that are interested in the MSDE Early

Childhood Accreditation Project. Participants will gain an understanding of the steps involved to

becoming a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Accredited.

14 - Infant/Toddler #11 Personal &Social Development

(CU,CD) 6:30pm-9:30pm $20 Participants will gain an

appreciation for the relationship-building that starts in early

infancy. We will discuss the role a caregiver has in planning and

supporting infant and toddler personal, social, and emotional

development. This class will also identify positive methods of

self-regulation for infants and toddlers.

14- Exploring Nature with Young Children (CU) 6pm-9pm

$15 - This class will open the world of nature to participants in

ways that pull upon what they are already doing in day-to-day

routines. We will discuss simple ways to help children of all ages

enjoy nature.

Autism is one of the most interesting conditions. We will break

knowledge base and appreciation for the uniqueness and

challenges of autistic children.

20 - CPR 6pm-9pm– $35 - This workshop is designed for

providers and parents of young children. Meets Office of Child

development in infants and toddlers; how to engage in communication

with newborns; what are age appropriate expectations and further

how we can use this knowledge to build upon what a child is showing us

his or her capabilities are. Having a clear understanding of newborn

and infant receptive language development assists providers in early

childhood settings to best plan for their infants and toddlers expressive

language development

21 - Science Explore Your World (CU) 6pm-9pm - $15 - Everyday

activities that offer opportunities to learn about science will be shared in

this workshop. Your budding scientists will be captivated as they

experience science and the role it plays in our everyday lives

26 - How to Teach Everyone - Multiple Intelligence (CD) 6pm-9pm

$25 - Defining, understanding and creating lessons for all multiple

intelligences to help children learn to the best of their abilities.

27 - Positive Discipline for Challenging Children (CD) 6pm-9pm - $25

Many times the life of a caregiver can be very hectic. Children try to go

beyond the limits and test our authority. We will discuss strategies to

maintain an appropriate and safe environment to meet children’s

individual needs.

28 - Infant/Toddler #13 Cognitive Development (CD, CU)

6:30pm-9:30pm - In this class, we will take a close look at how infants

and toddlers explore the world around them. From mathematical

thinking to scientific thinking; infants and toddlers are beginning the

foundational learning for these domains. Learning how to plan for

individual skill levels within these domains is an important part overall

infant and toddler growth and development.

Training Policies and Procedures Registration. All workshop participants must pre-register –NO EXCEPTIONS. Participants are required to register and pay for workshops in advance. Registration is accepted by phone, mail or in person. The training line for phone-in registration is operational from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday-Friday. Visa or MasterCard required for all registrations done by phone. Mail registration form to Child Care Links of Harford/Cecil Counties 2105 Laurel Bush Rd., Suite 105, Bel Air, MD 21015. Child Care Links does not accept personal checks. Fees Paid are NON-REFUNDABLE. Should you miss a workshop, credit or transfer to another workshop may be given if Child Care Links is notified at least 24 hours prior to the workshop. If after hours, please leave a message on Child Care Links’ answering service. No credit or refunds are issued for “no shows”. Call 443-512-0462 with any questions or concerns about our refund or credit policies. Any credits issued are good for one year from the date of issue. Late Arrivals. Workshops begin at stated time. Our instructors reserve the right to refuse admittance to any workshop for any participant arriving 15 minutes or more past the start of the workshop. Credit or transfer will be issued at the discretion of the Child Care Links staff for any participant turned away from training for lateness. Cancellation or change policy. Child Care Links may need to cancel a workshop due to lack of enrollment; in this event, a CCL staff member will contact you at the phone number or address you provided upon registration. If we need to cancel a workshop and you do not wish to be transferred to another training, you will be issued credit good for one year or refunded fees paid for the canceled work-shop. If you are phoning in your registration please verify that we have the correct contact information, including more than one telephone number where you can be reached. Rude and/or disrespectful behavior during workshop will not be tolerated. Please remember to exercise good judgment and respect for both the trainer and other participants in your session. It is okay to disagree with facts or opinions presented by the trainer or other participants but please remember to remain professional. Core of Knowledge certificates will be issued at the conclusion of the training session for all participants who successfully complete all requirements set forth for the course. Child care is not provided during workshops. Workshops provided by Child Care Links are intended for adults only. Please make other arrangements for care of your children during workshop hours. Workshop locations. Child Care Links has two locations where we offer trainings. One location is at our main office on 2105 Laurel Bush Rd. Suite 105 Bel Air, MD 21015. The second location is at the YMCA of Elkton on 25 YMCA Blvd. Elkton, Md. 21921. If you need directions to either locations please let us know upon registering for the trainings. Inclement Weather - Please note that the training department of Child Care Links follows Harford & Cecil Counties Public School Weather Policy for closings and delayed openings. If you are scheduled for a workshop and Harford or Cecil County Schools close for inclement weather, our workshop will be canceled. During the weekend our workshops will be canceled if Parks and Rec cancels school activities. If, for any reason, this changes, a CCL staff member will contact you. Attempts will be made to reschedule any canceled workshop.
