The drive in north Kash- mir was led by its vice presi- dent and MLA Sopore, Haji Abdul Rashid who said that the drive would be carried in all five Assembly segments of north Kashmir. Rashid while address- ing party workers, casti- gated present dispensa- tion for “failing to provide relief and rehabilitation to flood victims of September 2014 floods.” He added that “PDP’s hypocrisy” stands exposed after the party’s “unholy” alliance with BJP. “A party that had been championing about freeing the state from Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and return of mortal remains of Afzal Guru has compro- mised on all the promises for lust of power”, he said. “PDP’s rhetoric over development and governance is ridiculous. During PDP’s rule development came to a grinding halt,” he said. “In assembly elections Mehbooba Mufti repeated- ly called BJP a communal party and top PDP leaders sought votes against BJP,” he added. Meanwhile, Congress MLC, G N Monga launched party’s membership drive in Ganderbal and asked the party cadre to take the mes- sage of party to every nook and corner of the district. “Campaign vigorously and try to enrol maximum number of members. Reach to every home and make the people understand that Congress is a vibrant party,” Monga told workers. Monga also sought jobs for those people whose lands were acquired for setting up of central university of Kashmir in Ganderbal. “The government had promised to provide jobs to these families and it must fulfil the prom- ise,” he demanded. Srinagar, May 18: Endo- scopic and Laparoscopic Society of Asia (ELSA) con- ducted the instructional course in basic laparoscopic skills and advanced suturing at Sher-I-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences Soura here today under the banner of JK state chapter of Asso- ciation of Surgeons of India. The programme, first of its kind in the country, was hosted by Colorectal Depart- ment of SKIMS and faculty of reputed institutions of Sin- gapore, Philippines, India and SKIMS, GMC Srinagar and JK Health services spoke on different aspects of laparoscopy and suturing. “The faculty included Prof Davide Lomanto, Dr Anil Sharma, Dr Jaideep Rao, Dr allen A Buenafe, Prof Ajaz A Malik, Dr Rouf A Wani, Dr Mubashir Shah, Dr Zaffar Khanday, Dr Gowhar Mufti and Dr Nazir A Wani,” a handout of ELSA said. “Prof Nisar Ahmad Chowdari was course direc- tor, Prof K Alam organising chairman and Prof Fazl Q Parray organizing secretary. The Director SKIMS, Prof Showkat Ali Zargar appre- ciated the efforts of Colorec- tal department in arranging the skill courses at the door steps for postgraduate/resi- dents from the masters of craft,” the handout added. Prof Nisar A Chowdri emphasised on importance of such programmes while as Prof Khursheed Alam stressed on the need of wet and dry skill labs at SKIMS. “The academic pro- gramme was facilitated by Olympus and aimed at improving the basic lapa- roscopic skills in a struc- tured way to all the future generation of surgeons who got ample time for hand on endo-training with masters of craft,” the handout said. Such programmes raise the basic standards of surgi- cal skills and up growing the image of SKIMS at national and international level, a SKIMS faculty member said. Dr Fazl Q Parray thanked the whole faculty, organizing team, SKIMS administration and regis- tered delegates for making the programme a big suc- cess. Won't allow reopening of cinemas in Kashmir: Asiya Geelani must choose his country before applying for passport: Manhas ABID BASHIR Srinagar, May 18: Ruling out any possibility of uncon- ditional talks, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said the dialogue with sepa- ratist leaders can only be held “within the ambit of Indian constitution.” “Yes, we have promised to take internal stakehold- ers on board in our Agenda of Alliance. But any dialogue with the separatists will be held within the ambit of Indian constitution,” BJP’s National Executive Com- mittee member and Rajya Sabha MP, Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters at the party office here. He said BJP’s JK unit would facilitate the dialogue if separatists are willing to talk “under the constitution of the country.” On denying passport to Hurriyat (G) chair- man, Syed Ali Geelani for travelling to Saudi Arabia to visit his ailing daughter, Manhas said: “Geelani must first clarify from which country he is demanding the passport.” Singh, the former JK president of BJP, said they are committed to imple- ment everything promised in the Agenda of Alliance of PDP-BJP coalition. “We forged an alliance with the PDP despite the fact that our ideologies were different. We have a set target—J&K’s development and to take everyone along, especially youth,” he said. On why New Delhi has withheld funds meant for rehabilitation of flood vic- tims, Manhas, who was flanked by BJP’s Kash- mir affairs in charge Ramesh Arora, said that there have been a series of deliberations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, and Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu over the issue of managing finances in the State. “The previous regime had left the State in a bad condition. The delibera- tions between the leaders of state and the PM were aimed at providing corrup- tion-free government and to ensure smooth fund flow,” he said. “I believe within a few weeks, the issue of fund flow from New Delhi would be resolved and there will be smooth flow of funds in coming days.” Regarding delay in Rs 44000 crore rehabilitation package, he said Centre is committed to help the State. “I think, issue has been sorted out with the Centre and there will be release of funds soon,” he said. Manhas also said that he is the member of special team of MPs that would visit J&K to explore the possibili- ties of setting up industries at large scale. “There are almost 22 MPs, who are part of the committee. We will be trav- elling to many areas and see how J&K can get the indus- trial exposure,” he said. Speaking on the occa- sion, Arora, who is also BJP MLC, took a dig at Nation- al Conference patron Dr Farooq Abdullah for chal- lenging the BJP’s member- ship figures. “He (Farooq) is the same person, who used to main- tain that he will throw BJP leaders into Dal Lake if they come to power. Challenging the figures of members BJP has registered in Kashmir is an act of frustration on part of NC patron,” he said. “Our membership drive was transparent and we have crossed 3.5 lakh mem- bers in Kashmir of which 50,000 are from down town,” Arora said, adding that NC and Congress should read the writing on the wall that BJP is fast turning out to be most popular party in Kashmir. Pertinently, Dr Farooq while reacting on the BJP’s membership claims, had recently told Greater Kashmir that “no Kash- miri Muslim would side with BJP.” He said the recent Par- liament and Assembly polls are witness to the fact that people of Kashmir have rejected Abdullahs for run- ning the State for years. Those, present on the occa- sion, included BJP leaders Altaf Thakur, Dr Hina Bhat, Khalid Jehangir and others. Srinagar, May 18: Dukhta- ran-e-Milat (DeM) chairper- son, Syeda Asiya Andrabi today cas- tigated the Bollywood actor Salman Khan for his state- m e n t about reopening of cinemas in Kash- mir, terming it a part of ‘larger cultural aggression being car- ried out in the state’. “Recently Mufti Sayeed visited Mumbai and invited the film industry to make films in Jammu and Kash- mir. It was not a personal initiative of Mufti Sayeed but he was in fact doing it on the directions of India. Bollywood is the main cause of increas- ing crime rates and they want to bring this into Kashmir as well,” Asiya, in a state- ment today said, adding that “We can’t allow the spread of vices in Jammu and Kashmir through Bollywood.” “We warn the government that in 1988, after much hard work, we succeeded in clos- ing down cinemas in Kashmir and under no circumstances we will allow their reopening. We appeal all the Ulema and the pro freedom leadership to show resentment against the proposal,” Asiya said. Srinagar, May 18: Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed today inspected the newly-allotted premises of the Directorate of Informa- tion and Public Relations near Polo View here. The complex was earlier with J&K Public Service Commission that shifted its offices to the new Complex at Ram Bagh last year. Mufti Sayeed went around the premises and issued immediate direc- tions to the Chief Engineer R&B, Satish Razdan to begin renovation-cum-restoration work of the Media Complex so that it is made functional at the earliest. The Chief Minister said that the new premises should come up as an integrated Media Complex with vari- ous offices of the Informa- tion Department including the Directorate, the Public Relations wing, Field Pub- licity wing, Cultural wing, Audiovisual wing, Research and Reference wing, Youth Information Centre, Wom- en’s Information Centre and other related sections operating at one place. Divisional Commis- sioner Kashmir, Gazzanfar Hussain; Deputy Commis- sioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Lone and Director Information, Muneer-ul- Islam accompanied the Chief Minister. NF to remember Prof Waheed on May 22 Srinagar, May 18: National Front on Monday finalized the preparations for May 22 function, scheduled to be held in Chandilora Tangmarg to pay homage to Prof Waheed and martyrs of Kashmir. Addressing office bear- ers at the head office here, NF chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan said, “Betray- al with the blood of martyrs can prove costly and it can prolong the journey towards the final goal of freedom.” “It is significant for a nation to think about the great sacrifices of martyrs and their mission. Function of Chandilora, Tangmarg is part of it which is being held every year to commemorate Shaheed Prof Waheed and other martyrs of Tangmarg,” he said. Khan added the func- tion will start at 11:30 am with joint Fateha Khawani and prayers for all martyrs. STATE twitter.com/GreaterKashmir_ facebook.com/DailyGreaterKashmir epaper.GreaterKashmir.com

MUDASIR YAQOOB

Srinagar, May 18: State Congress launched its mem-bership drive in north and central Kashmir districts of Kupwara and Ganderbal in a bid to strengthen the party at gross root level.

The drive in north Kash-mir was led by its vice presi-dent and MLA Sopore, Haji Abdul Rashid who said that the drive would be carried in all five Assembly segments of north Kashmir.

Geelani must choose his country before applying for passport: Manhas ABID BASHIR

Srinagar, May 18: Ruling out any possibility of uncon-ditional talks, Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Monday said the dialogue with sepa-ratist leaders can only be held “within the ambit of Indian constitution.”

“Yes, we have promised to take internal stakehold-ers on board in our Agenda of Alliance. But any dialogue with the separatists will be held within the ambit of Indian constitution,” BJP’s National Executive Com-mittee member and Rajya Sabha MP, Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters at the party office here.
