Srinagar, Nov 17 : After remaining suspended for over four months due to ongoing unrest in the Valley, the rail service connecting north and south parts of Kashmir resumed partially today, officials said. The full operations are expected to start within the next 10 days, they said. The rail service resumed from Budgam to Srinagar Railway stations after completion of neces- sary restoration work on damaged infrastructure and tracks, the officials said. They said the service was resumed along the 11.5 km axis after a trial run yesterday. "Two trains were sched- uled to run on the route today, one in the morning and another in the eve- ning," they said, adding the passenger turnout was very low but is expected to pick up in the coming days. The Railway authori- ties are working on a plan to resume normal operations along the 120-km track between Banihal in south and Baramulla in north Kashmir within next 10 days, the officials said, adding restoration work on the damaged infra- structure and tracks are in full swing and expected to be completed shortly. Northern railways suspended the service as a precautionary measure on July 9 following wide- spread protests over the killing of Hizbul Muja- hideen militant Burhan Wani in an encounter with security forces in south Kashmir a day earlier. The unrest has left 86 persons dead and thou- sands others injured. The railways suffered heavy losses due to the damages and disruption in its services. "The signal boxes, junction boxes, wiring and other infrastructure have been badly damaged during the unrest," the officials said. PTI Mubashir Khan/GK Burhan’s killing was a trigger, peoples’ anger was brewing up since long: Sagar Srinagar, Nov 17: The Youth National Conference (YNC) President Salman Ali Sagar on Wednesday flayed the government over its anti-people measures, saying the present situa- tion, if not tamed, would prove disastrous. “The government has been pushing the people especially the youth of Valley towards the wall. It is playing politics with the future generations with dra- conian laws like PSA becom- ing the only escape route for the present dispensation,” Salman said while address- ing the party workers here. He added that the people of Kashmir Valley after feel- ing betrayed by the PDP, launched peoples’ movement to give vent to their anger. Salman said that the killing of Burhan Wani was a mere trigger while the anger that was brewing up in peoples’ minds since the inception of the new government was sprouting its roots deeper in Kashmir’s society. “If people observed strike for more than 130 days, it would be enough for the world to understand that something somewhere has went terribly wrong,” YNC president said. He said that right to vote is a fundamental right of every individual and no one should object to people’s choice of exercising the fran- chise. “We have no problem if people of Jammu voted for the BJP but PDP sought votes from Kashmiris against the BJP’s mission 44 plus. It pro- jected itself as the only party that could stop right wing party’s march to Kashmir. The rest is history. The cur- rent unrest is the outcome of PDP’s short-sightedness and the measures it has been taking since day one while undermining peoples’ aspi- rations,” Salman added. YNC leader Imran Dar during his address said the reason behind South Kash- mir becoming epicentre of the current unrest is PDP’s betrayal with the people. “As people of south Kash- mir voted for PDP to stop BJP from forming govern- ment in JK, the party did a U turn and recorded history’s greatest ever betrayal with the people. I can tell you with certainty that South Kashmir would never ever vote for the PDP again. It has been routed from the region a long time ago,” Imran Dar said. Among other YNC leaders, Jahangir Yaqoob, Ehsan Pardesi and Mudasair Shahmeri also addressed the event. Kar to head PDP’s Baramulla district Srinagar, Nov 17: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Irshad Rasool Kar as Party District President for Baramulla. In order to further streamline party net- work to reach out to common masses, the PDP president Ms Mehbooba Mufti today nominated Irshad Rasool Kar as District President for Baramulla. This was dis- closed here by party General Secreatry Nizamudin Bhat. Bhat also reiterated party’s resolve to transform the society and state polity through honest, dedicated, committed and acceptable political class and hoped that Kar will come up to the expectations of the party cadre in particular and masses in general.
