It’s time again to register your children for Religious Education classes.

*Families with a balance due in their accounts will not be able to register their children until their balance is paid in full. In order to enroll your child / children in our program, families have to be registered parishioner and:

Bring a copy of your child / children baptism record (or birth record if not baptized).

Children in 1st grade may start classes for First Communion.

Teens in ninth grade may start classes for Confirmation.

Young adults older than 17 years old, may be enroll in RCIA.

There are continual education classes for those who have received First Communion, but are not old enough to start classes for Confirmation.

Rediscovering the Eucharist: Celebration and Adoration

Meditation

May this Year kindle in every believer a resolve to profess the faith in its fullness, with renewed conviction, and to celebrate the faith more intensely especially in the Eucharist, the summit toward which all the Church’s activity is directed and the source from which all the Church’s energy flows. Without liturgy, the profession of faith would lack the grace to bear fruit in Christian witness (see Benedict XVI, Door of Faith, 9, 11). How providential that June opens, in this Year of Faith, with the solemnity of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ (Corpus Christi). June’s Sunday Gospels show Jesus comforting the afflicted and forgiving sin, predicting his saving passion and challenging would-be disciples to take up their cross daily and follow him. But faithful discipleship is impossible without the grace that flows from Christ’s Eucharistic sacrifice, without the comfort bestowed by Jesus’ abiding Eucharistic presence. Thus June becomes a grace-filled opportunity to renew our appreciation of the multiple dimensions of the Eucharist by rediscovering the riches of the Church’s teaching: Eucharist as sacrifice and paschal banquet (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 1322–1372, 1382–1390; Compendium, 271, 275, 280-281; YouCat, 212); Christ’s Real Presence (Catechism, 1373–1381; Compendium, 282–283; YouCat, 216–218); full, conscious and active participation (internal and external) (Constitution on the Sacred Liturgy, 14; Catechism, 1345–1355); fruits of the Eucharist in our personal and communal lives (Catechism, 1391–1401); Eucharist as pledge of future glory (Catechism, 1402–1405).

Deseamos que este Año suscite en todo creyente la aspiración a confesar la fe con plenitud y renovada convicción, con confianza y esperanza. Será también una ocasión propicia para intensificar la celebración de la fe en la liturgia, y de modo particular en la Eucaristía, que es la cumbre a la que tiende la acción de la Iglesia y también la fuente de donde mana toda su fuerza. Sin la liturgia, la profesión de fe no tendría eficacia, pues carecería de la gracia que sostiene el testimonio de los cristianos (ver Benedicto XVI, La puerta de la fe, 9, 11). Es muy providencial que junio abre, en este Año de la Fe, con la solemnidad del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo (Corpus Christi). Los evangelios dominicales de junio muestran a Jesús dando consuelo a los afligidos y perdonando el pecado, predicando su pasión salvífica y ofreciendo el desafío a sus discípulos aspirantes a cargar la cruz cada día y seguirlo. Pero el discipulado fiel es imposible sin la gracia que proviene del sacrificio eucarístico de Cristo, sin el consuelo de la presencia perdurable de Jesús en la Eucaristía. We owe today’s beautiful feast to a valiant woman who suffered a great deal to establish a feast out of her love for the Eucharist. Juliana was a nun in Belgium in the thirteenth century. She served in a hospital for lepers. She became convinced through her prayer that the liturgical year was incomplete because it had no feast for the Eucharist. Her efforts were not welcome, and a supervising priest sought to punish her for promoting a feast that “nobody wanted.” He even had her accused of financial mismanagement and banished her from her convent. Shortly after she was exiled, the bishop approved the feast. It quickly spread through Europe. In those days, people very seldom received Holy Communion, and so the processions through the streets with the eucharistic bread not only led to an awareness of Christ’s hunger to be with us, but prepared the way for a deeper desire to receive Christ’s Body and Blood in more frequent Communion. The feast grew rapidly, but Juliana disappeared into poverty and a hidden life. She ended her days as an “anchoress,” a woman living in seclusion in a room attached to a parish church. Imagine her delight at seeing us gathered at the table of the Lord on this day, aware of Christ’s presence in our midst, sharing fully in Christ’s Body and Blood. Perú tiene más de 3000 fiestas cada año, normalmente en torno al santo patrón de algún pueblo. La celebración de Corpus Christi es celebrada en todo el país. Pero es más llamativa en Cusco. Durante el día se escucha el repique de María Angola, la campana más grande de todo Perú, que existe desde el siglo XVI. La celebración incluye una procesión con quince santos y vírgenes del siglo XVII, que vienen desde sus santuarios hasta la barroca Catedral de Cusco para honrar el Cuerpo de Jesús. Estas imágenes son cargadas por la plaza de armas antes de llegar a la catedral donde se quedarán hasta el octavo día. Según los peruanos los santos y vírgenes pasan las siete noches platicando con el Señor de los temblores, bromeando y planificando el año que viene para sus parroquias. El último día los santos y vírgenes regresan a sus santuarios con otra procesión.
