THIS SACRED MEAL Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Each of the readings includes a blessing and a sharing of food. They remind us of the central place of meals in our lives. Each meal brings to mind other meals: the sharing of cookies and milk, pizza and beer, loaves and fishes, bread and wine. When we prepare a meal for our family, our friends, even strangers, we always put something of ourselves into the prepara-tion and the meal itself. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us of what God put into the preparation for this meal that we celebrate today. We share this sacred meal and are transformed as we re-member the death of Jesus and the sacrifice that nur-tures our faith, sustains our lives, and supports our work. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

A FAMILIAR FACE RETURNS TO ST. HENRY’S…AS A DEACON.

This summer, we are blessed to have two seminarians assigned to St. Henry’s. Hopefully by now you’ve all had a chance to meet Treville Belcher. The second seminarian isn’t going to be a seminari-an for much longer. In fact, most of you should al-ready know him. Below is a message from him.

I am seminarian Joseph Caraway, but I will

soon be serving you as Deacon Joseph Caraway. The last three years, I have been studying theology in Rome and I will be returning home this summer to be ordained a transitional deacon, June 29, at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral at 10:00 a.m. After three years in Rome, I miss home and look forward to returning to the Louisiana culture. I grew up on a farm in Lacassine which is much different than the busy cobblestone streets of Rome. Rome is a lovely place with a rich history of our Church and many of the great saints that we learn about growing up. I am eager to share my blessed and fruitful experiences in Rome with you and my studies of theology. Studying theology is a special gift where I have the chance to grow in deeper love and union with Christ. This love and union is some-thing I hope to share with each of you while I serve in the parish.

As a transitional deacon, I will be with you for the months of July and August and return to Rome for my last year of studies at the beginning of September. This summer will be my first experience as a deacon and I am blessed to experience this time with you. Two years ago, I was assigned to St. Hen-ry’s Parish as a seminarian and I am excited to re-turn. My memories of St. Henry are positive and the people were great to serve.

I look forward to building off of my previous experiences in the parish and working with Fr. Cormier to grow closer to priestly ordination next year. Before I arrive, I would like to invite you to my ordination on June 29, but more importantly, I ask for your prayers as I prepare to be ordained.

UNA CARA FAMILIAR REGRESA A SAN HENRY … COMO DIACONO

Este verano, tenemos la bendición de tener dos seminaristas asignados en San Henry. Esperemos que ya hayan tenido la oportunidad de conocer a Treville Belcher. El segundo seminarista no va a ser seminarista por mucho más tiempo. De hecho, la mayoría de uste-des ya debe conocerlo. A continuación hay un mensaje de él.

Soy el seminarista Joseph Caraway, pero pronto estaré sirviendo como el Diácono Joseph Cara-way. Este verano será mi primera experiencia co-mo Diácono y tengo la bendición de experimentar este tiempo con ustedes. Hace dos años, me asignaron a la Parroquia de San Henry como seminarista y estoy emocionado de regresar. Mis recuerdos de San Henry son positivos y la gente fue genial para servir. Estoy deseando aplicar mis experiencias previas en la parroquia y trabajar con el P. Cormier para acercar-nos más a la ordenación sacerdotal el año próximo. Antes de llegar, quisiera invitarlos a mi ordenación el 29 de junio, pero lo más importante es que les pido sus oraciones mientras me preparo para ser ordenado.

A directed retreat is a form of silent retreat based on the Spiritual Exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola focusing on the personal prayer of the individual. There are no group activities or conferences other than the daily Eucharist and an individual daily meeting with the director. The retreatant spends about four hours in contemplative pray-er each day of the retreat. The retreatant may choose to do three or five days.
