Mission Statement St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, Anderson SC was founded in 1943 by the Franciscans of the Holy Name Province, New York. The intention then and today, was and is to, in the spirit of Jesus Christ and St. Francis, minister in and with the African American Catholic community and to reach out to the African Americans of Anderson County. Furthermore, all who come to St. Mary’s from whatever background and ethnicity with a desire for Christian family will be regarded as brothers and sisters to us. We also see ourselves as called to live in Gospel relationship to the alienated and the poor of this community.

Declaración de la Misión La Iglesia Católica de Santa Maria de los Ángeles de Anderson, Carolina del Sur fue fundada en el año 1943 por los Franciscanos de la Provincia del Santísimo Nombre de Jesús en Nueva York. La intención en aquella época y ahora, ery y es en el espíritu de Jesucristo y San Francisco, servir a la Comunidad católica afro-americana y también poder llegar a todos los afro-americanos del Condado de Anderson. Además todos los que vienen a Santa María, de cualquier posición y grupo étnico, pero con un deseo de familia cristiana serán considerados como hermanos y hermanas. Gospel: Mark 12, 38-44

In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds, "Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robes and accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pre-text recite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation."

He sat down opposite the treasury and observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums. A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, "Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood."

Evangelio: Marcos 12, 38-44

En aquel tiempo, enseñaba Jesús a la multitud y le decía:

“¡Cuidado con los escribas! Les encanta pasearse con amplios ropajes y recibir reverencias en las calles; buscan los asientos de honor en las sina-gogas y los primeros puestos en los banquetes; se echan sobre los bienes de las viudas haciendo os-tentación de largos rezos. Éstos recibirán un casti-go muy riguroso”.

En una ocasión Jesús estaba sentado frente a las alcancías del templo, mirando cómo la gente echaba allí sus monedas. Muchos ricos daban en abundancia. En esto, se acercó una viuda pobre y echó dos moneditas de muy poco valor. Llamando entonces a sus discípulos, Jesús les dijo:

“Yo les aseguro que esa pobre viuda ha echado en la alcancía más que todos. Porque los demás han echado de lo que les sobraba; pero ésta, en su pobreza ha echado todo lo que tenía para vivir”.

Gospel

Reflection Widows in Israel were one of the poorest people. In today's gospel the rich and the widow are com-pared in reference to their offering in the Temple Treasury. While the former give in abundance “something”, “that which they have left”. The widow gives two copper coins, what she “has to live”, she “offered herself”. It became an offering just like Jesus on the cross. Am I able to deliver my life as did the poor widow and Jesus? Las viudas en Israel eran una de las personas más pobres. En el pasaje del evangelio de hoy se contraponen a los ricos y a la viuda que ponen su ofrenda en el Tesoro del Templo. Mientras los primeros entregan en abun-dancia “algo”, aquello “que les sobra”. La viuda entrega dos monedas de cobre, lo que “tiene para vivir”, se “ofreció a sí misma”. Sandwich Making Month

During the month of November our parish will be making the

Anderson Emergency Kitchen Soup Kitchen Bag Lunches.

The dates we will be making sandwiches are the following at 9:15 am:

• November 6th

• November 13th

• November 27th

We need the following supplies to make 200 bags lunches per week

Chips

Cheese Slices

Cookies

Juice Boxes

Sandwich meats

Mayo & Mustard

Napkins

Ziplock Sandwich bags

Donations for fruit

No peanut butter or Jelly is needed at this time.

If you are interested in making sandwiches, you may sign up on the sheet

in the parish hall.

The Knights of Columbus will be collecting Ameri-can flags that need to be properly retired. They can be left with the ushers or in the office for collection. We will hold a ceremony in November.

The Hispanic community ill be selling food the 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month after mass.

Please support our fundraiser!

Corporal & Purificator:

We need volunteers to help us clean the corporals and purificators. We will let you know how to properly clean them. If you are interested please let Italy know.
