A Family Perspective ~ February 23th – 7th Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ Giving the shirt off your back, turning the other cheek or walking / driving the extra mile is normal stuff in families. We do that for one another. Today’s gospel reminds us all people, even those we don’t like, are our brothers and sisters. Our family should prepare us to be FAMILY to others.

Luci Hilbert, Treas. 542-7444 and Betty Pearson, Secy. 542-8552. ➢ Abortion and Child Abuse ~ Abortion teaches us that violence is an acceptable way to deal with difficult life problems. It teaches us that human beings are only valuable if they meet certain criteria, and it teaches us that the strong have a legal right to kill the weak and defenseless. When the unique value of individual human life is trampled upon, society inevitably suffers. Abortion advocates argue just the opposite. They purport that aborting "unwanted" children will reduce child abuse, neglect, poverty and violence and will generally lead to happier families. However, our experience since 1973 proves that this theory does not work. During that time, over 60 million "unwanted" babies have been denied the right to live, yet we have more crime, more violence, more dead-beat dads, and more gangs. The list goes on. Abortion advocates even argue that abortion is an effective way to prevent crime since it eliminates those who are "most likely" to commit crimes, more specifically the babies of poor mothers. Dianne Glass wrote an article supporting this radical idea. It is hard to believe that in this age, people could

argue that human beings should be executed for crimes they may commit in the future and that abortion is the answer to solving poverty. Indeed, it is a truly frightening social policy! In the final analysis, it is only logical to conclude that societies who are willing to abort children before birth will be far more likely to abuse them after birth. Abortion is child abuse, and it is the most severe form of abuse in existence. ➢ In a diocesan-wide effort to support parents as primary educators and support parents in having options for their children’s education, Bishop Daniel E. Thomas invites the faithful of the Diocese of Toledo to contact your state representatives and senators expressing to them support for educational choice in Ohio. Ohio’s General assembly has recently introduced legislation that would effectively eliminate one of Ohio’s school choice programs without securely funding an alternative for families. To learn more about the school choice in Ohio, please view this document: https://tinyurl.com/school-choice. ➢ Level 3 Snow Emergency Guidelines for the Diocese of Toledo ~ Whenever a county/city within the Diocese of Toledo is placed under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, during which all roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, the Catholic Churches within that geographic region will cancel the scheduled Saturday

Vigil, Sunday, or Holy Day Masses. Roman Catholics in that

region, therefore, are dispensed from the obligation to attend

Mass. If Masses are cancelled, Catholics are encouraged to

participate in Holy Mass via television, radio, or internet,

making a spiritual Communion. When Mass is cancelled, all other diocesan, parish, or school events in that geographic region are also cancelled. ➢ Needed are new/gently used coats, hat, and gloves. There is a box by the library to donate them. Trinity United Methodist Church heads the coat drive and they're supply of coats are depleted. Thank you for your generosity! ( if you wish you could drop them off directly at the Methodist Church on their annex porch also) 137 East High St 24/7. ➢ 40 Days for Life Campaign Begins February 26th ~ Catholic Charities is hosting the ecumenical 40 Days for Life campaign in Northwest Ohio from Feb. 26th- April 5th. You can participate in 3 ways: prayer & fasting, community outreach & peaceful vigil. We invite you to pray for an hour in front of Capital Care of Toledo, located at 1160 W. Sylvania Ave. To learn more to sign up for daily prayer intentions, hours of prayer, and info on upcoming events visit www.40daysforlife.com/toledo. The Opening Prayer Vigil for this Spring 40 Days for Life Campaign will be Tues., Feb., 25th at 6pm at Capital Care of Toledo. Since the international 40 Days for Life Campaign began in 2007, over 1 million volunteers in over 61 nations have stood in prayerful witness at abortion clinics to witness the dignity of human life. Through these prayerful campaigns, over 16,742 lives have been saved. 196 abortion workers have quit their positions, & 104 abortion facilities have shut down! To learn more, email Peter Range at
