Pastor’s Notes
I thank all those who made Holy Week possible. That
will include the school’s 7th grade who put on the Live
Stations of the Cross on Good Friday and also our
children and adult choirs, our altar servers, our lectors,
our ushers and ministers of Holy Communion who
contributed so much time and effort to make our
services possible. Finally I thank the new environmental
committee who decorated our church; they really filled
the church with Easter joy. They are a worthy successors
to Lisa Franey who retired last year.
There have been a lot of significant changes in the world
during this last year. Brexit and the election of a new
president have expressed the desire for change among
the peoples of the world. Thank God these have been
fairly peaceful in our country so far. We need to pray
now for the moral restoration of our country which
caused all this division. We are not out of the woods
yet. There are many wars going on in our world right
now. These have brought us much pain. I am
particularly saddened by the attacks on the Coptic
Church in Egypt. One of the promises of Our Lady of
Fatima, one hundred years ago, was a promise to
prevent wars by saying a daily Rosary. I hope more and
more of us use this tool to bring us justice and peace. It
only takes twenty minutes to do.
This year I have been placing an emphasis on the
theological virtue of Faith. Most people see the Holy
Scriptures as the Word of God. Through these sacred
texts God gives us an instruction on how He wants us to
deal with our fallen nature. No one actually saw Jesus
rise from the dead. While only about 500 people saw the
resurrected Jesus, there are observations that help to
quell any doubts that we might have. In believing that
the Holy Scriptures are the Word of God, we make an act
of faith in simply accepting if God said so, it is true.
Jesus's first apparition to His Apostles shows His divine
mercy. He comes not only to forgive their unbelief, but
also their betrayal. "Peace be with you!" This was more
than just a banal greeting. You hear it in the words of
absolution in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, “May God
grant you pardon and peace.” Jesus goes a step further,
"Receive the Holy Spirit!" Their sanctifying grace was
restored as if they were baptized again. Many people
refer to this as being “born again.” Jesus’ mercy and
forgiveness is restored with no bitterness. But perhaps
the greatest humiliation for these Apostles is Jesus’ final
astonishing and undeserved gift, “If you forgive men's
sins, they are forgiven them!” Jesus institutes the
Sacrament of Reconciliation to those who betrayed and
denied Him. Two weeks ago we recalled Jesus raising
Lazarus from the dead. He asked Martha and Mary if
they believed in the resurrection at the end of time, “Do
you believe this?” Now we must ask ourselves the same
question regarding this great Sacrament. While this
requires great faith, have you ever noticed how different
you feel when you leave the confessional. True, it is an
example of one sinner forgiving another, but for the
priest it is done with divine authority. Jesus has passed
through an ordained priest the ability to allow Himself to
work through a fallen human being of His choosing to
forgive sins! How He picks them is a mystery, but this
month Pope Francis is asking young people to discern if
God has made that choice of them. Again, we need to
ask ourselves, “Do you believe this?”
Because the guards at the tomb probably slept
through the Resurrection, they were “paid off” to say that
the disciples came and stole His body. The account of
Peter and John running to the tomb tells us other-
wise. When John enters the tomb, he saw and be-
lieved. What was so convincing to him about what had
happened so that he could “see and believe?” John
stayed with Mary at the foot of the Cross. He probably
accompanied those who buried Jesus. He may have
seen them wrap Jesus’ dead and bloodied body with the
burial cloths. The cloths must have adhered to Jesus’
wounded body. If one was to steal Jesus’ body with Ro-
man soldiers guarding the tomb, do you really think they
would have the time to unwrap those soiled burial cloths
and neatly fold the cloth that covered Jesus’ head? Do
you even think they would even want to unwrap that re-
volting mess? Again we must ask ourselves the ques-
tion, “Do you believe?”
Easter is a time to believe that nothing is impos-
sible for God. It is a time to rejoice that we can have a
guarantee that our sins can be forgiven in this life so we
can enter Eternal Life. But do we believe in the super-
natural gifts that God has given us? May we all rise at
the first resurrection at the end of time. May this be a
happy Easter for all of us, knowing that we can choose to
live forever in complete happiness.
On the business side, the recently introduced
church air conditioning system replacement project has
started off well. I am looking forward to accumulating
$200,000 to complete the job. In the meantime none of
this money will go to the maintenance of the present sys-
tem. I hope not to throw good money after bad on this
present collapsing system. We will take the patch up
work from the general fund unless we can no longer get
parts for the twenty-nine year old system. We encourage
you to use the envelopes in the narthex so we can easily
dedicate your donation to this project. Thank you for your
support.

NET Ministries is an
international Catholic youth ministry that is committed to
challenging young Catholics to love Christ and embrace
the life of the Church. The organization’s acronym stands
for National Evangelization Teams. The NET team
members are young adults between the ages of 18 and
26 who engage teens in their faith through music, skits,
games, small group discussions and large group
presentations.
Theme: Fully Alive (True Happiness) Only God is big
enough to fill you. The pursuit of happiness motivates
every decision we make. Why is it, then, that we find
ourselves unhappy so often? This theme explores our
search for true happiness, highlighting the one thing that
is big enough to fill our deepest desires – God himself.
The day includes: Presentations by the NET team, skits,
music, Mass, Confessions, small group discussions, all 3
meals, and lots of fun! This retreat is free, but you must
be registered.

DIVINE MERCY NOVENA In St. Faustina’s diary our Lord Jesus said,
"Oh, what great graces I will grant to souls
who say this chaplet. The very depths of
My tender mercy are stirred for the sake
of those who say the chaplet. By this nove-
na, I will grant every possible grace to
souls." This novena will be prayed in Church starting
April 17th until April 22nd at 7:30 PM. Prayer will include
exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and a short expla-
nation of the "what and why" we are praying on that
day. All are welcome. DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY CELEBRATION– April 23rd. Lord Jesus told St. Faustina - " No soul will be justified
until it turns with confidence to My mercy, and this is why
the first Sunday after Easter is to be the Feast of Mercy.
On that day, priests are to tell everyone about My great
and unfathomable mercy. By means of this image, I shall
be granting many graces to souls; so let every soul have
access to it. Whoever approaches the Fount of Life on
this day will be granted complete remission of sins and
punishment." Please come and join our Parish Commu-

include prayer of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, Benedic-
