To the Parish Family of Saint John’s,

I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones well! There has been much happening here at Saint John’s! On Sunday, October 27th, our PREP students presented their Saint Museum. It was a tremendous success thanks to the hard work of our PREP students in studying about the saints they chose, dressing up in costumes to represent their saints and presenting mini-biographies of their lives! Great job to students and catechists alike!!

We also just recently completed our Annual Day of Service on Sunday, November 3rd. Approximately 100 people came together to complete many charitable and practical works. From crafts and activities being prepared in preparation for our Jesse Tree program, to food being cooked, sandwiches being made and clothing being collected and distributed – all to aid and assist a variety of causes, shelters and organizations in the surrounding area. We are also very proud of Ella Wendel, a girl scout from our parish, who made and donated 20 blankets as Christmas gifts to people who participate in our Shared Meals program! Many thanks to Ella!! Our parish choir even got into the spirit of giving by hosting a sing-along at nearby Arden Court! Many thanks to all the members of our parish Social Concerns ministry for all of your coordination and hard work! Much is accomplished when we gather together in large numbers to answer God’s call to serve our neighbor!

Our parish Youth Ministry has also been busy having recently hosted Youth Minister and speaker, Tony Vasinda on October 22nd. Thanks to Tony for sharing his insight with our youth in how to live out their faith in today’s culture. They also just hosted the Junior CYO retreat this weekend and are wrapping up the sale of Thanksgiving pies! Over 150 pies have been sold with proceeds benefit-ting future Youth Ministry activities! They are also gearing up for their annual poinsettia sale and Lunch with Santa at the Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, December 7th.

The parish is also preparing for our Annual Christmas Bazaar as I just mentioned, with proceeds benefitting our Social Concerns causes and organizations and our Youth Ministry activities! Please stop by, get some early Christmas shopping done and help sup-port worthwhile causes!

We also have our parish Knights of Columbus Council hosting their Adopt-A-Family for Thanksgiving and Christmas! Through these programs they are accepting donations of food and clothing on behalf of needy families in the area.

We also have our Jesse Tree Program getting organized to provide a joyful Christmas to children and their families in need in this season of giving!

Lastly, I want to thank and acknowledge our three new altar servers for their willingness to serve at our weekend Masses! Many thanks to Mia Cruz, Mira Marita and Eloise Fronheiser!

So, as you can see, there is much being done here at Saint John’s!! I invite all of our parishioners to consider one of these many op-portunities to share the Christmas spirit with those within and beyond our parish who are in need.

May God’s abundant graces and blessing continue to be yours! Fr. Will

A SEMINARIAN JOURNEY/PRIESTLY FORMATION(WWW.STCHARLESSEMINARYAPPEAL.ORG)

Costs for health insurance, books and additional expenses for sem-inarians can reach $8,500 per year.

“I came to the seminary just after high school in 20111. If I could have come sooner, then I probably would have. I have always wanted to be a priest from an early age. Studying at the semi-nary really allows you to dive into the details of the Gospel. Our schedule here can be rigorous at times, but the goal is to be well-formed in our faith so that we can proclaim it to others. There is something so special about being on campus and witnessing the seminarian’s journey. The seminary is an important part of ensur-ing that the Church has a presence in Philadelphia’s future. The seminary is not a building or a place; it’s the people you grow with. Priests are men of God who are completely devoted to the Church. It’s important, now more than ever, to invest and support the Seminary Appeal.” - Rev. Mr. Louis Monica

Today, the focus is on Lynda Caldwell. Lynda has been with the PREP program for 4 years and has brought to the program a dedication and support that has benefited all. She is a mom to four children who attend Pennsbury Schools. In the past, Lynda was a catechist for the third grade level students and this year she is “blessed to teach second graders preparing for their First Reconciliation.” She does this with Ann Damron who prepared the grade curriculum following the dictates of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. The lessons taught center on prayers, the Mass and the Holy Trinity. Her goal is “for my students to feel God’s presence and to be in a safe and fun environment.”

With the 13 students in the class, Lynda wants to “always see the good in everyone.” She reminds the little ones that God is always with them.

When Lynda is not needed in the classroom, she has graciously offered to be the Monday evening hall monitor keeping the chil-dren safe and navigating the process of early dismissals and late arrivals of the students in the Monday evening session.
