AUSTSWIM Code of Practice for

Registered Swim Schools

Objective of this code:

To promote the values of AUSTSWIM by:

- Encouraging public condence in aquatic education.

- Publicising AUSTSWIM's expectations of its teachers.

- Showing that AUSTSWIM teachers accept a standard of practice.

- Providing a benchmark for appropriate behavior.

- Promoting the participation of all Australians in safe and enjoyable swimming

and water safety programs conducted by qualied personnel.

This Swim School has agreed to:

Employ only AUSTSWIM qualied teachers who hold the appropriate AUSTSWIM

Certicate to instruct swimming and water safety programs.

Please note: AUSTSWIM may conduct random verication checks.

This Swim School has further agreed to:

- Follow AUSTSWIM guidelines relating to safety, class ratios, emergency procedures

and duty of care. Refer to the AUSTSWIM web site for a copy of relevant guidelines.

- Abide by established standards for aquatic facility safety.

- Display the AUSTSWIM logo and other promotional material provided by

AUSTSWIM as part of this Swim School Recognition Scheme ideally visible inthe entry/foyer of the facility.

- Promote and deliver only safe and enjoyable aquatic activities.

- Show concern for the health, safety and welfare of participants and colleagues.

- Enhance water safety knowledge while developing swimming, water safety

and survival skills.

- Provide a planned and sequential program of aquatic skill development based

on individual participant needs.

- Not engage in any conduct (or permit any sta of the Swim School) to engage in

any conduct which is:

- Contrary to the provisions of the AUSTSWIM Constitution, by-Laws or anyresolution or determination of AUSTSWIM;

- Unbecoming of a registered AUSTSWIM swim school or prejudicial to the

objects and interests of AUSTSWIM or swimming instruction generally; or

- Likely to, or has bought, AUSTSWIM or swimming instruction into disrepute.

- Provide equal opportunity for all to learn swimming, water safety and survival

skills by:

- Modifying the program to cater for those with disabilities, adult learners

and those with injuries.

- Ensuring that all persons under tuition are treated with courtesy and respect

deserving of all people, irrespect ive of individual dierences and needs.- Refrain from any discriminatory pract ices by treating everyone equally.

- Represent AUSTSWIM and the swimming and water safety teaching

industry in a professional manner.

- Extend professional courtesy to sta, industry colleagues, participants

and parents.

Swim School Management Software Program to assist AUSTSWIM recognised swim

schools in managing all aspects of running a swim school business.

Especially developed for AUSTSWIM, the program is oered at an aordable rate

to recognised swim schools only.

Insurance

AUSTSWIM in association with our insurance brokers, Insurance Made Easy, havedeveloped a number of special insurance programs for individual teachers and swim

schools giving you a real saving on the cost of your insurance.

AUSTSWIM Schools have access to quality AUSTSWIM merchandise to brand with their

school logo and resources with comprehensive aquatic industry information.

industry members by communication via our services:

Aqualife - a full color, environmentally friendly magazine produced quarterly by

AUSTSWIM and distributed via email as a service to approximately 25,000

teachers.

Swim School Newsletter- produced quarterly and distributed electronically to all

AUSTSWIM recognised swim schools throughout the world.

Website - recognised swim schools are eligible to place advertisements for qualied

swimming teachers under the employment section of the AUSTSWIM website.

The AUSTSWIM Swim School Recognition Scheme is a FREE resource

provided to assist Swim schools in achieving the highest standard in

aquatic education.

The objective is to promote the participation in safe and enjoyable

swimming and water safety programs conducted by qualied personnel.

The AUSTSWIM logo and platypus symbol gives customers the peace of

mind that they are using a facility employing instructors taught under a

trusted and highly recognised brand, whilst also giving the facilities the

recognition of using only AUSTSWIM qualied sta for teaching swimming

and water safety.

AUSTSWIM receives many enquiries from parents, teachers and swim

schools for information on swimming, water safety, facilities and the

aquatic industry

How does the Recognit ion Scheme work?

Your facility can easily be a part of this quality assurance campaign by

completing the following steps.

1. Grab a copy of the application form by calling 1300 885 666 or

from our website www.austswim.com.au. There is no cost to join

this scheme it is free of charge.

2. Agree to abide by the AUSTSWIM Code of Practice for the Teaching of

Swimming and Water Safety (please refer to back page).
