TED began in 1984 as a gathering place for innovators and leaders in the fields of Technology, Entertainment and Design. 28 years later, TED has become a nexus for a global community of individuals who believe in the power of Ideas Worth Spreading.

TED.com currently has a library of over 1.200 amazing talks of such high quality that the site has become the platinum standard for innovation in digital storytelling.

TEDx

TEDx is part of a revolution in global education made possible by local organizers wanting to engage their communities.

Every week, in multiple cities, people are coming together to pursue ideas worth spreading. As of 2012, more than 16,000 talks have been given at more than 3,200 TEDx events in more 130 countries.

It’s all about the passion for ideas …

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx - local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x=independently organized TED event.

The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.
