Term 1 Week 5 26 th February 2019 From the Principal: Last week I had the pleasure of visiting the Year 6 top maths group, where ‘Elvin, the superstar’ demonstrated his brilliant mathematical thinking. It’s wonderful when students 'think outside the box’, as it shows that they are not afraid to take risks and think creatively. Well done Elvin, I know that many others will find your solution to problems very beneficial. I also was fortunate to hold a discussion with the students of 5/6 H, who were keen to share their ideas about healthy eating. Their responses will assist students from the University of Newcastle, who are researching ways of promoting healthy eating amongst the Muswellbrook community. Life Education Many students have enjoyed their visit to the Life Education van and Healthy Harold has certainly been kept busy. I would like to thank all parents who supported this program, as well as Mt Arthur Coal, who heavily subsidised the cost. School Photos - Wednesday 27th Feb (Years 2-6) and Thursday 28th February (Kindy, Year 1, Sibling Photos & K-6B) These are taking place this week. Envelopes have been distributed to families and they need to be returned to school on the day. Please ensure that your child is dressed neatly, in full school uniform with black polished shoes and blue scrunchies/head bands. No JoJo bows please. PAYMENTS AND DUE DATES

Please be reminded that payments for excursions and events need to be paid by the due date.

Payments can be made in cash, cheque, EFTPOS or online through the school website.

No late payments will be accepted. If you are unable to pay by the due date, please contact the school.

Clean up Australia Day Although our school usually looks very neat and tidy, our students will be making a special effort on Friday, 1st March 2019 to clean up our school environment on this day.

YEAR 6 FUNDRAISER Our Year 6 students have brainstormed some great ideas for fundraising to help support our families with the price of our Year 6 senior shirts.

The cost of the shirt has increased and we have only asked our families to pay the same as last year, $40.00.

We discussed fundraising ideas and our Year 6 students came up with the idea of selling ice blocks on the two days that the canteen does not open.

On Monday and Tuesday, you can find our Year 6 students leading the ice block station near the canteen and each ice block will be 50 cents. Each Stage 3 class will take turns each week to run the station. This will continue for the remainder of the term.

We will also be running a Thompson Pie Drive. This was the most popular idea from our Year 6 students. A Thompson Pies order form will be coming home for you to choose your favourites and share with family and friends. Please return the order form by Tuesday 3rd April. I will be placing the order that afternoon so I cannot accept orders after this date. Delivery will be on Wednesday 10th April. Don’t miss out.

We hope that you are able to support our Year 6 students and their families.

Ms Karla Kelly

SPORTS NEWS Zone Swimming Carnival

Last Tuesday, 19th February, 24 children attended the Zone swimming carnival at Scone. The children competed extremely well in very hot conditions. They strived to achieve their personal best, both in and out of the pool. Six children (Layla C, Maddison P, Blu S, Zac W, Bailey W and Harrison M), as well as the Senior boys and girls relay team (including Owen S-H, Blake G and Lillian S) were rewarded for their efforts by qualifying for the Regional carnival.

A huge thank you to Miss Fitz and the parents who time kept and supported the children on the day.

Miss Dawson.

HORSE SPORTS… WHAT IS IT?

Horse Sports are riding competitions for boys and girls of different primary and secondary school ages.

Horse Sport events have hack and rider classes in the morning and a variety

of fun sporting events in the afternoon.

Horse Sport competition days are held throughout the year in various local areas.

If your child is someone who regularly competes, with their own horse, at

pony club, gymkhana, show or rodeo events, they may be able to represent MPS at Horse Sports events in 2019. For more information, please see Miss

Tomlinson.

Entry forms are now available for Blandford Horse Sports being held on March 8th.
