Volunteers Week

This week is volunteers week. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the wonderful volunteers who regularly support our school. A special thanks to our hard working P&C who go above and beyond to provide additional opportunities and resources for our students including our daily canteen, mothers and fathers day stalls, the new school sign, playground equipment and library resources. Thanks also to our scripture teachers and parents and staff who volunteer in sporting clubs and other organisations outside our school. Your hard work is appreciated by Lismore Public School and the broader community!!

NAPLAN

Students in Years 3 and 5 have been participating in NAPLAN over the past two weeks. All Assessments will be completed by Friday. Students are to be commended on the way they conducted themselves during the assessments. Results will be made available to the school and parents/carers later in the year.

NR PSSA Zone Cross Country

Lismore Public School will be well represented at the NR PSSA Zone Cross Country at Corndale this Friday. Mrs Parrish and Lochie will travel on the bus with our team to Corndale. Students who finish in the top three at Corndale will go on to represent the zone at the North Coast Regional Cross Country in June. The Corndale course is a true cross country course and we wish our students all the best and congratulate them on qualifying to compete.

Sporting Success

Congratulations to Ricky who has been selected in the Northern Rivers Zone Touch Football Team. He travelled to Iluka to the zone selection trials and will now head to Grafton on 27th May. Good luck at the next level Ricky! The Lismore Public School community are proud of you and your success so far.

Labelling Clothes

Over the past week we have seen a change in the weather. With the cooler weather in the mornings students are wearing jumpers to school and then removing them later in the day. Whilst staff do their best to remind students to be responsible for their possessions the amount of lost property we have at school is increasing. We are asking that all clothing please be labelled so we can do our best to make sure lost property gets back to its rightful owner. Your support in this matter is appreciated.

School Attendance

Children are required to attend school in NSW from 6 years of age until they turn 17. All students are required to attend school unless they are unwell or on leave for purposes approved by the principal. Parents and carers are required to provide a reason for their child’s absence as soon as possible after they have missed school. This can be done via text message, phone or in writing. Students with unexplained absences will receive a letter from the school which should be returned providing a reason. Students whose attendance falls below expected standards may be referred to the Home School Liaison Officer who will engage with them in an attendance program. Should this program not improve attendance legal action may be taken against parents and carers. Attending school regularly help students: develop a sense of belonging develop and maintain friendships be more engaged at school

The students from Kindergarten to Year 2 had their first ‘formal’ assembly last Friday in the school hall.

Elijah did the Welcome To Country and the 1/2CH SRC representatives Skyla and Bentley were the MC’s.

Mrs Nilon and the captains had a challenge selecting the class with the best assembly manners. 1/2J are

to be commended for being the winners of the pizza party for their respectful manners throughout the

entire assembly. Everyone enjoyed community singing and students receiving their Teacher’s Choice

awards or certificates for achieving their learning goals should be proud of their consistent effort

striving to be their best.

Infants Assembly

Please remember to return your note and money to the front office to be included in the workshops to

decorate or create lanterns and to be part of the group representing Lismore Public School on the 19th

June at the Lismore showground. Notes are available from school. Please return as soon as possible so

you don’t miss out on a place.

Social Skill focus: Following Directions

What Is My Child Learning?

Your child is learning that repeating directions to

him or herself helps to remember what to do.

Practise at Home

Before giving directions for daily tasks that

require more than one step, prompt your child

to listen and focus. Give your child the

directions. Have your child repeat the directions

to you, then to him or herself as many times as

needed until the task is complete. For example:

You need to listen and focus on these directions.

Wait for your child to focus. Please go to your

room and get a pair of socks and a clean shirt.

Now repeat what you have to do out loud.

Why Is This Important?

Being able to listen, remember, and follow

directions helps children be better learners.

1. Wash hands

2. Enter and Exit quietly

3. Respect the privacy of others

4. Turn off the taps; flush when finished
