Our church is at its
best when we reach out to
sisters and brothers in
need. On October 5th,
World Communion Sunday
calls the church to reach
out to people and model
diversity among God’s
children. United Method-
ists relate to World Com-
munion Sunday by cele-
brating Communion with
other Christians around the
world on this special Sun-
day. Churches are also en-
couraged to receive an offer-
ing to support ethnic under-
graduate and graduate stu-
dents, which often enables
first-generation students to
attend college. Join us on
Sunday, October 5th as we
participate in World Com-
munion Sunday!
Thank you, Mission Team!

The Mission Team has been busy! In ad-
dition to building 9 handicap ramps this year (with
3 currently in the pipeline), they have also been
involved in getting The Connection ready for use.
Their efforts included tear down and remodeling
the old lobby teller line and break area, drywall
the new bathrooms, installation of the audio visual
equipment, assembly of what seemed like thou-
sands of new chairs, raising the new signs on
Washington Street, and a lot of other cleanup and
small stuff.
The Connection project, under the leadership
of Calvin Wilbanks and Ned Mountain, involved
the efforts of many people over several weeks, not
all of them church members. With apologies to
any we have overlooked, it seems fitting to recog-
nize those involved.
The church is thankful to all who played a
role in getting the Connection up and running.
The Connection Ministry Center will be a blessing
to our church and the community. Thank you!
Fellowship

Welcome New Members! Welcome to our new members Miriam and
Kevin Smith by transfer of letter on September
14th. Please make them feel welcome when you
see them around!
Children and Youth News The youth and children had another awe-
some month! The youth spent Labor Day weekend
at the Grady's Camp Evergreen. Our focus for the
weekend was all about words. We talked about let-
ting God's Word change us, speaking life into oth-
ers with our words, and sharing our testimonies.
We had a blast while zip-lining, blobbing, flag tag-
ging, dodgeball-ing, and more.
The youth are having a Youth After Hours
event on Sunday October 12th. We will have our
regular youth meeting from 6:30-8:00pm followed
by a movie on the big screen, that is, our new pro-
jector screen at the Connection. School is out for
Habersham County students on Monday, the 13th
so we hope to see you on the 12th late night! Pick
up will be at 10:00pm.
The Children’s Event at Pitt’s Park will be
pictured in the next Grapevine so stay tuned for
highlights from that evening in the park! Coming
up, join us on October 31st for trick-or-treating on
the square! We hope to see children and adults
alike dressed up and ready to get candy that we will
be passing out at the church. Please donate candy
by turning it in to the office. We will have a box
ready for you. All donations are much appreciated!
-Brian Butcher, Director of Youth and Children
CFUMC Preschool The CFUMC Preschool had a great Septem-
ber, and the children have been busy! Some of the
highlights were celebrating Dallas’s birthday and
Pet Day! Animals included a cat, a puppy, a bull-
dog, a turtle, and more! Recently, the children
were also treated to a time of music with Katie
Grady.
The CFUMC Preschool is now on Face-
book! Look it up online, and like the page to stay
up to date with information and pictures. As a re-
minder, registration information is available at the
Church Office. Registration will remain open into
the school year as long as there is space available.
Enroll your child or grandchild today, and spread
the word to others you know who would benefit
from this opportunity!
Lay Servant Ministry We are happy to say we had four people
complete the most recent Lay Ministry classes.
They are Jennifer Boydstun, Linda Allen, Lewis
Hinely, and Michael Carroll. Other classes will be
offered in the Spring of 2015. Our Church now has
16 Lay Servants, which is the most in the Gaines-
ville District. For more information about this min-
istry, please see Pat Foster our lay servant liaison
for CFUMC.

chicken, beans, and cobbler prepared over an open
fire or in Dutch ovens. They also provided a slide
presentation of their many activities over the past
12+ months.
In addition, Ray Ward from Toccoa pro-
vided an excellent program on the history of the
Cherokee Indians in North Georgia.

Church Library Update:
Did you know…?
Our Church Library has study guides avail-
able from previous courses taught in adult Sunday
School classes or Wonderful Wednesday classes.
We have just added two 6-session books for Prayer
and 1 Peter by Bill Hybels. We have a 13-lesson
study guide for Matthew from New Living Transla-
tion, as well.
Six brand new children’s books have be-
come part of our children’s shelves in the library.
Halfway Herbert learns living a Christ-like life
takes more than partial effort. The Big Red Tractor
and the Little Village is a contemporary parable
showing God has a special purpose just for you.
Other titles are: The Tale of Three (a traditional
folktale), The Donkey Who Carried a King, The
Priest with Dirty Clothes and Just the Way You
Are. All of these books, though directed towards
elementary children, have powerful messages and
reminders for all.
Come and visit our church library and see
what we can offer you!

Stephen Ministry is a
ministry of care and compas-
sion. Stephen Ministers are mem-
bers of the congregation, trained to
offer high-quality, one-to-one Christian care to
people going through tough times. A Stephen Min-
ister usually provides care to one person at a time,
meeting with that person once a week for about an
hour. Monthly, Stephen Ministers gather with their
Stephen Leaders for supervision and continuing
education.
For more information or a confidential re-
ferral to a Stephen Minister, please call Stephen
Ministry Team Leader, Ron Waters, or the Church
Office.

knit or crochet, or would like to learn, you are in-
vited to the Connection at 10:00am on Thursdays to

quest a shawl to comfort or celebrate someone you

Tuesday Morning Prayer: Recently, Pastor Brian
had a very special dedication time for our new
prayer room. Our new prayer room is located in
The Connection building. We are happy to have a
room to call our home, even though we know we
will have to share. We are always looking for new
members, so if you are interested in joining us, we
meet every Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30am.
We would love to have anyone join us. If you have
any questions, please contact Pat Foster or Pastor
Brian Butler in the church office at 706-754-2677.

Food 2 Kids Update Our month of deliveries has ended and
many thanks to those who drove on Fridays to de-
liver bags to the schools! Ebenezer UMC will de-
liver in October, New Liberty in November, and
Cornelia in December. We will be helping them
with deliveries on "double bag" days before the
Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays because we
are now serving 159 students! Packing the food
bags on Thursdays at Ebenezer is going
smoothly. The time has changed to 9:00am. Thank
you to Friends in Faith UMW Circle for commit-
ting to packing bags every third Thursday of the
month. The need is great in our community and
your generous response with time and financial
support is much appreciated!

Each Day as a
Steward. This will motivate you to

you have each new day of

God has given you.
What gifts might you
have? Well, we all have
certain things like time,
and talents, and resources.
But most of us do not get
up each day and think,
“How can I manage (or steward) these things for
the benefit of others?”
But if you can learn to
think this way, you will
find life is much more re-
warding. Rev. Brian T. Butler
