Jordan Silverman co-founded Star Toilet Paper, which prints advertisements and/or coupons on toilet paper for client advertisers and distributes the product to high-volume public venues, such as stadiums, etc.. Silver-man is currently a student at the University of Michigan.

The Company has about a dozen advertisers, two venues carrying the toilet paper, and was an award winner in the Spring 2012 GLEQ Business Plan Competition. Learn more at http://www.mo.com/Jordan-Silverman-Star-Toilet-Paper

Moderator for the July pro-gram will be Jesse Bernstein, a serial entrepreneur from the get-go (mental health care, human resources, start-up management teams), even though he has also “dabbled” as a consultant, investor, and non-profit leader (Ann Arbor Area Chamber CEO and, presently, AATA Board Chair). Jesse is quoted as saying he’s “tried retire-ment but hasn’t managed to stay retired for long.” And so it goes with entrepreneurs....

Showcase PresentationAlso on the Program will be a 10-minute pitch by SurClean (Susan Sprentall, CEO). The Company is developing technology spun-out from American Laser Enterprises for a hand-held laser paint re-moval system targeted for the aircraft industry.

As always, we will have plenteous hors d’oeuvres and great networking. Please plan to join us on Thursday, July 26, one week later than usual due to the Art Fairs. See you then!

The New Enterprise Forum reviews business plans to determine the readiness of entrepreneurial ventures for presentation to the group. No independent investigation of claims or representation is made. Applicable securities laws place certain limitations on the manner in which an offer to sell securities may be made and on solicitations and advertisements to sell securities. Failure to comply could result in the loss of the private offering exemption. The New Enterprise Forum can assume no responsibility for the form or content thereof.

LAST MONTH HIGHLIGHTS

Showcase Presentation

Sterilogy LLCHal Zaima, Presenter and Co-Founder

Hand hygiene remains the primary way to prevent hospital infec-tions, which kill 100,000 US patients annually, resulting in $30 billion in unnecessary costs to hospitals and health care clinics. Medicare reimbursed hospitals for these expenses until October 2008, when it identified hospital-associated infections as the #1 preventable event and shifted the responsibility for solving the problem (and the financial burden) to the care facility.

Beginning in 2012, Medicare began deducting 2% from pay-ments of all non-reporting hospitals and care facilities, further forcing them to find a solution to their problem. Present hand hygiene devices include sinks with soap and water, wall mounted canisters, and small carryable sanitizers, many with some sort of alarm device, but none of these addresses the ten root causes of infection identified by the Joint Commission Centers for Trans-forming Healthcare. The Sterilogy delivery device addressees each and every one.

Their product is a patent-pending compact, body-worn hand hy-giene compliance and monitoring system that reminds the medical practitioner to perform a hygiene event at the appropriate time, and automatically records the dispensing event into the hospital’s data bank. The Company will go to market with a “razor/razor blade” business model, i.e., its razor is the Portable Sanitizing Unit (PSU}, alert emitter, base station, and software model; the blade is the proprietary sanitizer-filled canister. Total potential US hospital market is projected at approximately 700 million canisters per year.

Thus far, Sterilogy has applied for a utility patent and received a Micro Loan from the State of Michigan, as well as an SBA Business Accelerator Fund grant. Working prototypes are to be completed in June 2012 and a beta site at Oakwood Hospital will begin in Q3 2012. The Company is seeking an angel round of $600K by the end of Q3 2012 for purchase of beta units, preparation for production and other expenses. An A round of $2M in 2013 will be used to hire key personnel and begin production. Learn more at http://sterilogyllc.com/

Ken - Why the new legislation is important:Fully 65% of job creation typically occurs in start-ups; that stopped in 2008 in the US for a loss of $6T in net worth. The bipartisan JOBS legislation passed quickly and is intended to give small busi-nesses access to capital. The system is broken; there are not enough funds in local banks.

Tom - Changes in the new laws:SEC recognizes two kinds of investors, accredited and not; advertis-ing is prohibited unless a pre-existing relationship exists. New SEC rules will be issued in July to redefine these restrictions. We may soon see advertising, posts to websites, requests via email, etc. Lo-cal impact will be significant, as Detroit is ninth highest nationally in the number of accredited angel investors.

Alon - About crowdfunding:Groups pool their money for a particular goal. Projects may be started by anyone, and may entail contributions/donations for causes near and dear, or for the production of films, music, books, video games, environmental concerns, band tours, etc. RocketHub funds small projects (up to $1M) of many types and has “done well so far.” Learn more at http://www.rockethub.com/ Stay tuned...
