April 2-4, 2016

Equipping and Sending God’s People to

Make a Christ-Like Difference in the World!

As We Gather –On the first Easter evening the disciples were locked in a room for fear of the Jews. They had seen what had happened to their leader and were afraid of what might happen to them. Today, we in God’s church are not afraid of the Jews but have plenty of other is-sues that frighten us on both social and personal levels. Today we will confront those fears knowing that Jesus comes to us, just as He did that first Easter evening, with these words: “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.”

Welcome to Holy Cross.

Thank you for choosing to worship with us today! We pray that you will encounter Christ, the Living Word, and in a new way experience His mercy and grace today. Holy Cross is a place that can change lives through the power of the cross. Worship allows you to sing and pray in the language of your heart as God’s truth is expressed, His gifts are received, and lives are transformed. Mission outreach opportunities both at home and around the world abound through actual presence or prayer and/or financial sup-port. A growing commitment and practice of equipping the home to be God’s powerful tool for forming and transmitting faith along with our Christian day school of recog-nized excellence committed to inculcating a Christian worldview help us, with your participation, to make a Christ-like difference in the world.

We are a congregation and people on a journey— thankful for what God has done in and through us, excited as we respond to Him in worship and in our daily lives this next week. Whether it is for a lifetime or a short season, we welcome you to join us on this journey.

Lord God, You have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out in good cour-age, not knowing where we go, but only that Your hand is leading us and Your love is supporting us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

If you are a guest or visitor, please fill out the white Guest Card in the pocket of the friendship pads, which will be passed during the service. Also, please pick up a Visitor Bag (adult & children) from the Welcome Center desk.

Nursery (0-4 years old) located next to the Welcome Center.

Kidwise Program runs Saturday at the 5:00 p.m. service and Sunday at the 10:30 a.m.

service. Kidwise resumes again Saturday, April 16th after Spring Break.

Scripture Readings

Acts 5:12-20 12 Now many signs and wonders were regularly done among the people by the

hands of the apostles. And they were all together in Solomon's Portico. 13 None of

the rest dared join them, but the people held them in high esteem. 14 And more than

ever believers were added to the Lord, multitudes of both men and women, 15 so

that they even carried out the sick into the streets and laid them on cots and mats,

that as Peter came by at least his shadow might fall on some of them. 16 The people

also gathered from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those afflict-

ed with unclean spirits, and they were all healed. 17 But the high priest rose up, and

all who were with him (that is, the party of the Sadducees), and filled

with jealousy 18 they arrested the apostles and put them in the public prison. 19 But

during the night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them

out, and said, 20 “Go and stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words

of this Life.”

John 20:19-31 19 On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked

where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them

and said to them, “Peace be with you.” 20 When he had said this, he showed them his

hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. 21 Jesus

said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am

sending you.”22 And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them,

“Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if

you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld.” 24 Now Thomas, one of the

Twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disci-

ples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his

hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and

place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”26 Eight days later, his disciples

were inside again, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were locked, Je-

sus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.” 27 Then he said to

9

Thomas, “Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place

it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.” 28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord

and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen

me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”30 Now Jesus did

many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this

book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the

Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Liberian Children's Ministry: During National Lutheran Schools Week all of the

Lutheran schools in Fort Wayne teamed up to purchase a 40' shipping container to

deliver materials and resources to Joe Boway's sup-

ported Lutheran schools in Liberia. After delivery

the container will be converted into a community

library space and resource room. The next phase is

to support the construction of a 6-8 classroom

school. The project goal is (container - $4500 +

school- $20,000) $24,500 for the full project. This is

an ambitious and compelling project. In January HC

school raised over $2500 with Chapel funds and Penny War money. Now the con-

gregation is asked to help! Needed are 48 - 10.1 oz. tubes of silicone caulk, 2

caulk guns and bottled water (for the workers). Bring the supplies to the Wel-

Give. The evening was a success as families and friends joined together “For the

Kids.” Just over $19,000 was given that evening and of that amount $4,900 is desig-

nated for the Guardian Angel Fund. These gifts will help us to purchase the “extras”

that enhance the educationally rich and Christ-centered school experience we

strive to provide for our students and their families. Your involvement truly does

change lives...now and eternally!
