Final Journey to CEC
May 30th, 2013
This summer, elementary and secondary writing teams will work on connecting the Theological Virtue of Hope with curriculum and the virtues. The “Hope” resources will be available in September 2013 on the board’s website.
An additional team will write Supplementary Resources for the Grade 9 Religion Program, Be With Me. The resources will be piloted in a few schools next year, and after editing, will be available on line to all secondary schools in 2014-2015.
Religious Education Program Calendar Outlines will also be updated and uploaded to the system in August 2013.

Have a safe and happy summer vacation!
See you in September!
The FAITH Garden at Holy Redeemer Catholic School has been a two year endeavor which began from the student’s natural curiosity and inquiry about ways to attract butterflies to our scenic and idyllic school grounds. We applied for funds through the Ministry of Education Speak Up grant and were successfully awarded funds for two consecutive years to further enhance our FAITH Garden.
Through the leadership of the school principal, Mirella Rossi and school custodian Denny Pecchia our FAITH garden has truly been a 21st Century project. It has transformed not only our school grounds, but the people it has touched along the way. The pebbled-cross pathway is the heart and soul of the garden. The garden was created through the hard work and generosity of community partners, parent volunteers, The Church of the Good Shepherd, students, staff and visitors. Together we have created a true symbol of our Catholic Faith. Our FAITH garden became the sacred grounds in which we welcomed the TCDSB Witness to Faith Cross. The ceremony included the playing of trumpets, reflec-tions and readings honoring three Christian symbols of the rock, the branch and the dove. Our voices were heard as we all gathered around the FAITH garden singing our praises to the Lord. Our FAITH garden has allowed us to collaborate, be inclusive and be witnesses to our Catholic Faith. The FAITH garden is dedicated to our recently retired parish priest Father John J. Weber.

CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
CCCB 1992
Structure of the Catechism Four Principal Parts or “Four Pillars” of Faith Part One: The Profession of Faith Part Two: The Sacraments of Faith Part Three: The Life of Faith Part Four: Prayer in the Life of Faith The four parts are related one to another:
the Christian mystery is the object of faith (first part);
it is celebrated and communicated in liturgical actions (second part);
it is present to enlighten and sustain the children of God in their actions (third part);
it is the basis for our prayer, the privileged expression of which is the Our Father, and it represents the object of our supplication, our praise and our intercession (fourth part).

Thank you to all those who contributed ideas, articles and photographs for the June edition of the Religion and Family Life Newsletter - The Vision.

Final Journey of the Witness to Faith Cross - Images
May 30th, 2013
On Thursday, September 13th the TCDSB Witness to Faith Cross began its two year journey, visiting our
209 elementary schools and 33 high schools. It has been an inspiring endeavour, as each school com-
munity strove to make personal connections with the cross through prayer, celebration, witness and
faith.
This year, on Thursday, May 30th, the Witness to Faith Cross made its final pilgrimage. Beginning with a
short liturgy, students from Father Henry Carr’s marching band led their peers, students from St. Bene-
dict’s School and the Cross to the corner of Finch Avenue West and Martin Grove. Excitedly, we began
our 22 km journey down Finch Ave. W in Etobicoke to the Catholic Education Centre in North York,
meeting and greeting many schools along the way, exchanging cross bearers from time to time and
stopping at Msgr. Fraser—Norfinch for a short nutrition break. As we drew closer to the CEC, we made
one more stop at St. Cyril whose students came outside to greet our pilgrims and to give us some much
needed water. Students from Neil McNeil, the school who originally constructed our Witness to Faith
Cross, carried the Faith Cross for the last stretch. As we approached the CEC, we were greeted with
cheers from the staff located at the CEC. A short Liturgy to conclude the pilgrimage and the two year
journey was celebrated with open hearts by all those present.
Many thanks to those who made the pilgrimage a spiritual and energizing endeavour; in particular,
Steve Carey, Deb Gove, Fr. Michael Lehman from the Catholic Teacher’s Centre, the Religion & Family
Life Department and the chaplains from across the TCDSB. Hats off to the schools who participated
during our pilgrimage from Etobicoke to North York: Bishop Allen, Blessed Mother Teresa, Brebeuf,
Cardinal Carter, Chaminade, Fr. Henry Carr, James Cardinal McGuigan, Loretto Abbey, Michael Power/
