The inspiration for this wellness centre is based on the natural environment experience that comes from destination locations such as the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. The idea is to take this and implement it in an urban environment, in this case Toronto, where there are many natural spaces that embrace the outdoor environments and promotes active living. Having a site that displays this is part of creating a journey-like experience, which transitions from the big city to a smaller enclosed location. The chosen site is Ashbridge’s Bay near Woodbine beach. It contains trails that lead around the space embracing continous movement. the natural environment in this location also brings large attention to the horizon, which has a wonderful psychological impact of atmosphere that is very satisfying as well as the idea that it reinforces the reading of the interior as a landscape.
