WEEKEND FOOD PROGRAM (BACKPACK FOOD PRO-GRAM)

1 in 5 US children struggle with hunger. Children from low-income families are eligible to receive free or reduced-cost meals at school, but when the school day ends many of these children don’t know where their next meal will come from.

As we expand the weekend food program to include more schools we are able to serve more students in the Seneca Country area. From 50 students in 2013 to 550 students in 2016 and for the 2016-2017 school year we are hoping to reach over 700 students in the county. The goals of the weekend food program are to make sure that students have the nutrition they need to focus better at school on Mondays, to have less missed days due to illness, and to have less behavior issues. This program is funded by grants from the Tiffin-Seneca United Way, The White Family Foundation, The LPGA Marathon Foundation, and many other community organization donations. We also depend on our generous donors through our annual campaign. Thank you for the overwhelming support for this valuable program. If you know of a student that could benefit from this program, please contact John Aragon at [email protected]

ANNUAL CAMPAIGN 2017 You know the challenges that we face in Tiffin. People of all ages and backgrounds are struggling to reach their full potential. More and more children face seemingly insurmountable learning gaps. Families find it difficult to spend quality time together. Playing outside has become a rarity. Face time happens through a phone. And instead of seeing the income gap shrink, it seems all we do is watch it grow.

The Tiffin Y is beginning our annual campaign to raise the charitable funds needed to address the issues that concern you. Every dollar donated to the Tiffin Y stays local and has a lasting impact on the people of Tiffin area your gift will build a better us by ensuring that the Y’s doors are open to all. Your support helps youth and families live healthier and happier lives. It ensures youth in the community have enough to eat, and a place to feel safe. It also makes programs affordable for everyone in our community.

For a better you. For a better community. For a better us.™ To make your donation visit the Tiffin YMCA or

visit www.tiffinymca.org.

LIFEGUARDING CLASSES We will be holding three lifeguarding courses this spring to get prepared for the summer! Participants must be 16 years of age by the last day of the course in order to be certified. Participants ages 14 & 15 can become a YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant (YASA). YASA is a great way to introduce lifeguarding to those who want to become lifeguards at 16 and want to see what responsibilities are required of lifeguarding. All participants must be able to pass a swim test in order to complete the course. Certifications received at the end of the course will include: CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, Lifeguarding or YASA. Class fees include a book, fanny pack, whistle, and CPR mask. 100% class participation is mandatory – no make-up classes will be held. Class will be held in April Specific dates and times are available at the front desk. M: $200.00 PP: $250.00
